Casa Mateo Hotel Boutique

Terrible state of the rooms. Dirty, with mould in bathrooms, dirty sheets. The boutique hotel label and 4 star rating is completely misguided.|The employees very nice and friendly but when presented with the state of the rooms and asked to call the manager, they said he couldn’t be reached and only offered to change the bed sheets.

Casa Mateo 22 Apr 2021||||My wife and I stayed at Casa Mateo for one night on 22 Apr 2021. The hotel is beautiful and is in a great location. You are a 1 minute walk from the center of town. The staff is extremely friendly, professional, and attentive. ||We had room #1. The room was very beautiful, king size bed, sitting area, and fire place in the bedroom. The parking was good and very secure; however there is not allot of room to maneuver, so do not bring your Suburban. ||We did have dinner on the rooftop restaurant. The view of the Peña de Bernal is magnificent! Maybe the best in the pueblito mágico. The wait staff was great, very friendly, attentive, professional, and fast. We had a pizza that was ok. The wines were only local Querétaro wines most of which are not very good. There was a DJ playing music and they did a good job at playing music that everyone could enjoy. Also, they were very interested in what the people thought of the music and their performance. ||Everything that I remember was in Spanish. I did not try and speak English with anyone in the hotel or ask if there were any English menus, etc...||One thing that was very strange was the hotel wants to charge you $500 MXN if you buy an alcoholic beverage outside of the hotel and consume it in your room. I do not understand this concept. ||Note to management: room #1 needs to have the bathroom redone. Also, what makes you think that you should be able to levy an additional charge to someone because they wish to consume a legal beverage in their room, just because they did not purchase it from you? Will you soon want to charge guest if they purchase and consume food purchased outside your hotel? Water? ||All and all, the hotel is great and we will return.

This is a nice hotel, clean and with good rooms. Ammenities are good and linens have quality. Having said that, we were in room #2 and it is very dark. THe bathroom has no direct ventilation, except to the room itself, which can make it uncomfortable. ||Since the rooms do not have a telephone, to order room service or for any need, you have to go to the reception. It is a small hotel, but still, better communication would help. Even from room to room. Cellphones do not have a great signal reception, so even this kind of communication is not feasable. I do not know the other hotels in the region, but I do not think it is worth the value you pay for a room. ||There are no common areas for cold /rainy days, so it can get tight and stuffy if you stay for long.We could never connect to their wifi and settled for satellite tv.||The hotel itself did not have a noise problem, however, it is right next to the local church and the bells start at 6:00am even on Sunday. ||I guess with better climate the experience would have been very different.

This is a nice hotel located in the heart of Bernal. It has a restaurant with limited hours, a rooftop patio with great views & has on-site, secure parking. The rooms are large &, for the most part, nicely furnished.|The hotel advertises free wifi but it does not reach most rooms and is glacially slow. This is unacceptable for an hotel of this class in its price range. Compounding the problem is that cell service was weak to non-existent in most of the hotel which makes having good wifi even more important. |The hotel also has minor maintenance problems such as sink drains without a stopper & poor lighting in some places caused by burned bulbs or non-existent lamps where needed.|It should be noted that not all rooms have AC & Bernal can get very warm making for an uncomfortably warm room.|It is a nice hotel. But it needs someone to address its shortcomings, especially poor wifi.

The location is the best thing of the hotel is near the center so you can leave your car and don't need to be looking for parking spots. The hotel is also near so many vineyards so you can go to so many and get back in less than 20 min (in car). ||The rooms are warm and really clean, and found the attention from everyone really pleasant and with the will of helping.||Food in the restaurant is good but for excellent food and in a really good price you should go to the restaurant "Arrayán" I highly recommend it. ||The view of this hotel is also amazing you can see the peña de bernal from every room and the terrace which is nice if you want to have some drinks.

This was our first visit to Tequiquiapan, and we chose the Casa Mateo Hotel due to its location, mostly. Even though we were not in one of the premium rooms, we were absolutely delighted by the overall condition and service at the Hotel. The building itself is beautiful, with an spectacular view of the Peña rock from the terrace. The hotel is right in the middle of all the action. Rooms are comfortable and well kept. The only inconvenience was that there was no 4G reception in the room, which was in the lower level. Other than that, this was a perfect stay

*Review for restaurant only* We went to the terrace for lunch. They took more than an hour and a half to get our food to the table. Check also took about 30 minutes. Food is ok at best, nothing special and not worth the price. Some of my friends received their plate cold. Would never come back. Giving two stars because of the view, but everything else is not worth it.

The hotel’s location was excellent and close to all things without feeling like we weren’t getting away. Service was great and the room was clean. Only down was that the pillows were not incredibly comfortable. Would stay here again.
