Alright, let me tell y'all something. I'm usually not the biggest fan of fancy fine dining. Until recently, I thought of it as pompous and arrogant, a sort of classist or elitist perversion of the eating experience. I myself am a frequenter of cheap street meat from food trucks and bodegas. It's safe to say that I had my doubts when I came to this restaurant. However, I was brought along to Casa Mele as a part of celebratory gesture for my mother, as it was her birthday (this is relevant to the review, so stay tuned), so I couldn't exactly refuse to attend.
We decided to go with the Creative Menu, a selection of courses partially improvised by the chef as a way to keep us on our toes and let me just say... this s**t was off the chain. Alright so peep game, we got these oysters as the first course, right. Bruh, I don't even like oysters. I used to go to this seafood pub with my family as a kid; they would order a buttload of mussels and clams and I'd be chillin', eating my pizza burger deluxe. Now I'm like "Damn, now I see why they were eating that stuff!". Needless to say, the oysters, with the accompanying sauce were fantastic.
But yo, the s**t that had me so hype was this one dish they brought out. It was octopus with some other stuff. I had my doubts. Not only am I not the biggest fan of octopus or squid, but octopuses are mad smart! I usually feel bad eating em! Not that day. People, when I tell you that when I sliced my knife back and forth as it cut through the tender octopus tentacle that was served to me and it had the texture of crock pot chicken... I'm not playin' games!!! Casa Mele was not playin' games!!! Clearly!!! Oh my goodness, I was about to lose my damn mind when I was eating that octopus. The peasant in me was craving some tartar sauce and french fries but the way it was served was... immaculate.
Fantastic food aside, Casa Mele left a great impression on me with their great treatment of their customers. Our servers were very kind, with one of them thoroughly and carefully explaining the dishes. The best part of the night came when the restaurant staff surprised my mother, my sister, and I with an assortment great desserts! Earlier that evening when my mom went to the bathroom, my sister requested to our server that there be a surprise for her because of her birthday. Yo, they played the Italian happy birthday music on the restaurant speaker system!!! It was tight!!!
All in all, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a dining experience beyond the average or beyond the acceptable. Casa Mele serves great food with great presentation and has a great hospitable environment. This was a very good experience.
