Very clean and tidy hotel in the centre of Monsanto. Easy access to everything. Ana is a lovely host ! Will definitely stay here again next time

The location in the heart of this wonderful hilltop village would be difficult to improve upon. We spent a night here during an end to end cycle tour, and were sorry we couldn’t stay longer. We had a friendly welcome, there is a peaceful ambience throughout the building and our room was comfortable and charming. Breakfast was wonderful, excellent food and friendly service. All in all, a lovely stay.

Very good indeed. We arrived during a medieval festival and I had good views from my balcony. A very comfortable room and the breakfast was excellent.

This is a beautiful old house and super clean. It was lovely and quiet with big solid walls and felt like it was newly decorated because everything looked so fresh. Host was friendly and one of his staff spoke excellent English. Breakfast was lovely. Lots of lovely places to go and have a meal in the evening. Only stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer.

Monsanto is an incredible town. Casa Pires Mateus was an adorable place to stay. The lady who seems to run the show was very friendly with a great sense of humour. She cooked us breakfast to our specifications (eggs either scrambled or fried, along with standard Portuguese offerings of bread, cheese and ham) and was happy to oblige our various requests. We stayed in a twin room and the "single" beds were very generously sized and comfortable. Good sized bathroom. Hair dryer on request. There's a communal fridge for use. The shared terrace is very nice.

A beautiful old mansion converted into a hotel. Each room is lovingly furnished and modernized, access to a beautiful veranda in the second floor. Clean, spacious with all the necessary facilities. Good wholesome breakfast. Great wifi. Do call the owner directly and you might get a better price than through booking.com Highly recommended

One of the coziest places we have ever stayed. Welcoming and extremely sweet host, delicious ‘restaurant like’ breakfast, interesting view from the balcony. The hotel has the dinner room and the kitchen with all you need (cutlery, pots, kettle, microwave, fridge etc). Everything is sparkling clean. There is no hairdryer and amenities (if it’s important for somebody), only soap, the furniture is a bit outdated which is charming for me since I am a true antique/vintage lover. Not so much parking spots, but since it’s March we didn’t have any issues with finding a spot. It was a right choice, we are highly satisfied!

We stayed a single night while doing a circular bike tour between the historic cities of Portugal. Our hosts were very friendly and organised locked storage for our bikes overnight. The rooms were nice and clean, typical portuguese, with comfortable beds, and access to a roof terrace with a clothes line which came in handy to dry our kit. Breakfast was plentiful and filling in the morning, setting us up nicely for another day in the saddle. Very good value for money
