A recommended tapas bar to visit when in Almeria. Mostly locals and the food are fantastic! Drinks comes with something to nibble and you can order additional. In our case we got free garlic mushrooms. It opens at 8:30 pm and customersare already waiting outside before the doors are open. Better come early if you want a table, a bit of a scrumble to get it. The bar itself gets crowded with walk in customers throughout the evening

Great traditional tasca bar in Almería. If you’re not from here is a must, great tapas and drinks, very cheap and so beautiful to see too.

Casa Puga Almeria, is one of the best spots in town! The food is amazing, simple as that. It's some of the most authentic tapas I've had in my life. The atmosphere is super traditional too, the kind of place that makes you feel like you're stepping back in time. The staff are friendly, they made me feel so welcome as soon as I walked in the door.

I don’t understand how this place can have 5 stars reviews. I just went there and I have never seen a place as dirty as this one. We had 4 plates on the table and all plates and cutleries had stains of food on them. The worst part was the fact that I had 3 glasses that I couldn’t drink from. Very dirty, very cloudy and full of stains. I understand if it was one but all 3 were disgusting. I took picture only to one of them. The food was same. Very plain and no effort at all. The gambas pil pil was made in sunflower oil instead of olive oil, no taste at all. Also when cooking, without gloves, they were scratching their heads and then touching the food again. Horrible! I was so excited to be in Almeria and I swear this was the worst food experience so far.

Very popular with tourists and locals alike, so always expect a big crowd. There was even a queue 30 mins before the place opened. I went twice on different days, and both times they didn’t have pulpo and ternera… Why put them on the menu if you don’t serve them? 💔

Avoid if you’re a tourist/can’t speak Spanish. Tried my best to speak to the staff in Spanish and follow local customs to show respect for the culture and they just stood and laughed. Food was quite honestly the worst I’ve had during my time here. Unfortunate because they have great reviews and the locals love them but definitely not one for non-natives. So many better options next door/across the street.

I accidentally passed by this beautiful restaurant today, and it was a wonderful and interesting experience. I saw that tourists who don't speak Spanish gave it a low rating in the comments, and I think they may not understand how to order food correctly. I don't understand Spanish either, but through Google and other guests' explanations, the food on the tapas page here is that every alcoholic drink comes with a free tapa, and if you order extra, it's 2 euros each. We ordered four alcohol drinks, 6 tapas, and a fried shrimp, which added up to about 26 euros.

Yelp
I went to Puga since I had read about in the Michelin guide. When we arrived we were greeted by a nice waiter. However his English was not the best. We asked for a tasting menu and thereby let the kitchen decide. We got some very nice ham, some incredible shrimps and some good fried fish as well. I will definitely recommend Casa Puga to my friends who are visiting Almería and needs a good cheap dinner

Yelp
A very traditional and 100 year old restaurant in old town Almeria with excellent fish plates among others. Be prepared to struggle trying to remember your high school spanish classes cause they don;t really speak english.

Yelp
What an amazing place!! Filled with so much history and charm. The tapas and service were perfection. What they do to those mushrooms i will never know and always crave. Their fried everything and kebabs were amazing. Great place that you can not miss.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I walked by and was feeling too shy, awkward and out of place to go in -- being a solo business traveler on a Saturday night in a Spanish town when everyone is out in couples and/or posses. Luckily, I mustered up enough swagger to stroll in solo and belly up to the bar and order a glass of wine in Spanish. The old dudes behind the bar are great people. They didn't make me feel uncomfortable. They brought me tapas of sauteed mushrooms; freshly sliced ham; tomatoes and olives; scrambled eggs with more amazing ham; some sort of fried fish; along with 3-4 glasses of 2006 Faustino Rioja. When I finally called it quits, the bill was 15 Euros. Great place. Everyone was watching a soccer game. Very kind, genuine and authentic establishment.

Yelp
Nice charismatic place but overated food. Only for a beer I would come back. I had monkfish (rape) and salmonetes. Good quality fishes but poorly done. Very average. The free tapa with the beer tasted awful (lomo). The sitting at the table policy (you can only sit if you order raciones) was rudely explained to me. Still, as I said before, the place has charm but..that's their only asset. Enjoy :)
