Charming and warm building and staff. Beautiful decor of antiques and hand made ceiling in the large salon of Thai historic boutique hotel. Great food of great variety to sample almost the entire local cuisine.

This is an interesting place to stay which is a good value and at a great location for visiting the old town sites. Breakfast was really great too! The only drawbacks were that the bathroom and shower had been added to the room in an awkward layout with sliding doors that were very old and hard to slide. Both the shower and toilet areas were really small and hard to get in and out of. Otherwise, the staff were really friendly and helpful, bed very comfortable, and we had a nice city view from the room. It was really loud with construction and traffic noise. If you want a really quiet place, look at other areas.

My husband and a friend of ours stayed here for two nights on our way to the Galapagos. I wish we had booked more than two nights. I could have spent a full day just wandering the many magical common spaces in this unique, museum-like boutique hotel. Delightful, charming, comfortable (great bed, excellent shower, delicious coffee and breakfast!), and an amazing staff (that spoke English) and bent over backwards to make us feel at home. I highly recommend!

Nice place in the old town!! Great house and staff. I recommend 100% to all the travels. You will feel safe all the time. Great service. If you’re planning to visit some museum the hotel is the place to be. Had a lot of history between the walls, great antique's.

I cannot rate our stay here highly enough. The staff were kind and competent and took care of us like family. The breakfast and the coffee were delicious and the house, a colonial era mansion designed by a famous Ecuadorian architect, is unbelievably beautiful and is full of amazing art chosen carefully by its owner who is an art dealer herself. ||The owner, Myra, is a powerhouse, well known in Quito not only for her former gallery but for the radio station she founded. She not only knows everything about the city, the architecture, the churches, and the culture, she is also a wonderful person and we are blessed to have met her. ||Each room is unique and gorgeously furnished with some antique and some modern furniture. Our room had a breathtaking antique armoire. The bathrooms are very well done and modern with tiled waterfall showers and are immaculate.||The property is exactly where you want to be in the colonial part of the city within walking distance of museums, churches, restaurants, and Independence Square.

Great place to stay within the historic old city (a UNESCO site). This place has a whole lot of personality. Don't expect it to be the most fancy and modern place, but why would you even want that in the _Old_ City? Located on a quiet street, you're within a <5-10 minute walk from the plaza independencia (aka plaza grande), plaza San Francisco and La Ronda. There's no heavy foot traffic and only light street noise without the loads of pedestrians you'd have closer to the big plazas. It's an old and ornate mansion with a couple great shared sitting rooms downstairs. They have a nice selection of local paintings, bags, and scarves for sale. The service was phenomenal. Adriana (Clara, the innkeeper's daughter) met us as we stepped out of customs/baggage claim and together with her husband Jefferson (a cab driver) drove us thru the wet, windy and congested traffic. [Would not recommend renting a car-- taxis are abundant and Uber is available. The old city wasn't built for cars and is in essence a locked grid making walking faster.] The price was quite cheap by international standards and they gave us chocolate and got me a sim card on the way. Apparently you need a locals ID number to set up the SIM and they really helped with that and to get it up and running. Breakfast was delightful: coffee/tea/hot chocolate, fruit plate, and eggs or yogurt/granola. Paired with a great view of La Virgen, it's a great way to start the day. If I could do it again, the only thing I would change is to request a rear-facing room. Ours was mostly street-facing (not too loud for us but could be if you're a light sleeper) but the bathroom did look out to La Virgen de Panecilla (the Mary statue atop the hill).

Casa San Marcos is a stunning mansion in historic Quito just minutes from Plaza Grande. It is filled with art and antiques and almost feels like staying in a museum, though the staff encouraged us to make ourselves at home. A tour group even came through one day to see this special place. There are interesting things to look at everywhere. Some items are for sale but it is not pushed in any way. I came home with a stunning hand-embroidered pillow case/wall hanging made by a local artist that also reminds me of my stay there. The staff at the front desk were highly accommodating and helpful - Jess during the day and Daniel at night. Daniel made and served daily breakfasts; fresh fruit, rolls, and eggs to order, included with the room. They don't serve other meals regularly, but you can order ahead if you'd like to dine in. They made us a nice dinner for my husband's birthday and brought cake with candles and sang. They went out of their way to make it special. We stayed in room 6 with the amazing view of the Panecillo. The bed was very comfortable. There is wifi that worked best for us in the common areas rather than in our room. There is a small store across the street where one can buy bottled water and snacks, a cool cafe a couple doors down, and an upscale restaurant close by. Casa San Marcos is a welcoming place for travelers who want a unique experience in a historic venue.
