Casa Santa Luzia is hands down the BEST supermarket I’ve ever set foot in—and I’ve traveled a ton. No, no Whole Foods store (not even the flagship in Union Square, NY) comes close. And Eataly? Forget it; I’ve hit up five different locations in various cities, and they’re not on par with this gem. Perhaps Harrods in London could compete with its opulent vibe, but honestly, this place has a unique Brazilian soul that’s unbeatable. (Full disclosure: I haven’t made it to Isetan Depachika in Tokyo, Peck in Milan, KaDeWe in Berlin, or La Grande Épicerie de Paris yet, but they’re on my bucket list now thanks to this inspiration.)
From the moment you walk in, it’s like entering a food museum—two sprawling floors of pure indulgence. I could (and have) spent hours wandering the aisles, ogling the artisanal cheeses from around the world (hundreds of varieties, perfectly aged and displayed like art), the premium meats and charcuterie that make your mouth water, the imported wines and chocolates that scream luxury, and don’t get me started on the rotisserie section with its ready-to-eat masterpieces. The deli is a highlight—affordable yet top-tier, with incredible breads, fresh fruits and veggies, gluten-free treasures, and exotic imports that you won’t find anywhere else in São Paulo. In some aisles, like the chocolates, sweets, cheeses or spices, I literally want to try EVERYTHING; it’s an amusement park for foodies, not just a store.
The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, the presentation is impeccable (think marble counters and elegant displays), and even though it’s on the pricier side, every penny feels worth it for the quality. If you’re a gourmet enthusiast or just love good food, do yourself a favor and visit—it’s not shopping, it’s an experience! 5 stars all the way. 🇧🇷🍷🧀
