To the question, where can I eat a good, traditional Choco Frito (fried cuttlefish), you can be sure the answer will be: O Rei do Choco Frito in Setúbal. Locals and visitors alike know the story of this place. A tradition that brings the concept to life in crispy form. A no-frills, classic dining room and fast service set the stage for a culinary conversation by the Sado River. A generous portion, lemon if you want it, and that’s it. Let the experience begin. At Casa Santiago – The King of Choco Frito.

"The King of Fried Cuttlefish"! That's literally the name of this restaurant and i believe they live up to it. While i was going out and about in Setúbal after a work appointment, i couldn't pass the chance of stopping by for some traditional fried cuttlefish, a dish who came to be one of the cities main attractions. Casa Santiago was the best rated restaurant within the area i was located and i went in without hesitation. Arrived early (around 12am) and i'm glad i did, because shortly after people started lining up outside hoping to get a table. I was promptly presented with the menu even though the choice was obvious and previously established, something i believe the employees are well aware of. The food was delicious. The cuttlefish was cooked to perfection, well seasoned, with the right chewy texture, the fries were reminiscent of those home fried fries my grandmother used to make and frankly it really hit the spot. Washed it up with some 7Up for a change as i always prefered "white sodas" to go with fish. The desserts are somewhat basic, so i went with some Ben&Jerry's which is utterly overpriced, to be frank. I was served by the same lady throughout my time there and she was very professional and attentive. Don't be surprised if they start to fasten the pace of coming to your table asking if you need anything when you're finishing your meal. Without being impolite, they know how to prompt you to finish as they desperatly need tables for the new costumers. It's all good. Certified "must stop" for everyone!

It was our first time trying Choco Frito. We were not amused. It felt like eating rubber. Couldn't finish. The fries were good though. We did not go during peak hour so got the table and service was quick. A bit overpriced for the food and service

We got there in the early evening and were happy to sit by the window with not many people around. We only wanted to try the fried cuttlefish — €20 for four people. We were with our two kids, who didn’t eat much of it, so we ended up having a full dinner ourselves! We liked it — it wasn’t too oily. I gave it 4 stars because the fries were cold and too soft. The staff was very nice.

This restaurant is great. My friend brought me here. We arrived at 19:00 on Monday afternoon. Some people were already seated, but there were still some empty seats. Later, all seats were full. You should know that this is Monday, not Friday night, which shows that many people like this place. Next, let's talk about the food. The choco frito is delicious. I was so hungry that I kept eating it. The portion of his dishes is very large. For the two of us, we were very full after eating a large choco set meal. But I have to say that if you keep eating choco, you will get a little greasy in the end because it is fried. I suggest you order some other dishes to go with it. Although the decoration is not luxurious, I suggest sitting outside to eat so that you can see some scenery of the pier. It's a very good restaurant. I will recommend it to my friends, and the price is very affordable.

Good spot to enjoy the famous "choco-frito." The fish is excellent, and the fries are too. The price is quite high, though, but the quantity is very reasonable. The service isn't great... our waitress was very pushy and way too fast!

Casa Santiago - Rei do Choco Frito most likely serves the best deep fried choco in Setúbal. You can’t go wrong. If you go for lunch try to arrive at 12:00 as it fills up quickly. Most of the sides are paid separately but even then I think the final cost is quite low for the quality of the served dishes. Never disappoints!
