Casa São Bento

||Review: Casa de São Bento, Coimbra|I had an excellent stay at Casa do Sombento. The rooms were spotless and extremely comfortable. It's perfectly located—just a short walk from the city center. The staff were absolutely fantastic, welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. I genuinely recommend this place to any of my friends visiting Coimbra. The prices are very reasonable, and overall, it’s a wonderful place to stay. Excellent experience!||

Clean room conveniently located. Pictures online gave me a slightly different impression but upon check-in I liked the safety and security measures but not impressed with the rooms. The price and convenience to my Congress were hard to pass up. Thank you

Everything was excellent, but I especially want to highlight their outstanding service. The manager and staff were always willing to assist us and accommodate our various needs. For example, they helped us change our reservation to a more convenient location (they operate several hotels, and we initially booked a different one before switching to Casa São Bento), provided custom-formatted receipts for submission to my company, and even opened the breakfast buffet an hour earlier than usual to accommodate our early departure. Their attention to detail and willingness to help made our stay truly exceptional.

The place probably used to be nice but has definitely got older... We went there for a night in May, there was some leak from the ceiling, clearly must have seen by the staff, but we had to ask for another room otherwise nothing would have happened. mold on the walls in many places, not recommended...

This place is near the university and the “new” cathedral, next to the British building. Very clean, my room had a kitchenette, with mini fridge and microwave oven. Breakfast was good. The decor is very nice. A bonus, the room had a private patio…

Nice and helpful person at reception. Beautiful grounds, free parking on street- a big bonus in Portugal! However…. Rooms are tiny, not stove or dishwasher, and there was a general feeling of uncleanliness. Floors are dirty, kitchen cleaning sponge was old and dirty (and this is the only way to clean dishes, so that was scary…) , dusty and not well cleaned all around, stained towels and bedsheets, beds uncomfortable, counter was coming apart, fridge was peeling off in the front. It just seemed unkept and unclean. Disappointing as the pictures looked lovely and the courtyard and reception area is very nice and welcoming.

Good stay. Cozy room for the 4 of us (yes, a little small), but we slept well in comfortable beds. After a bad experience at a different accommodation, we made a last minute booking and checked in here. We were finally able to relax. Checking in was easy and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Arrived on the first night and the shower was filling up without draining, we were told by staff to ‘just wait until it drains’. On the penultimate night, the shower didn’t drain after 3+ hours, to which the staff told us to wait ‘5mins’ until someone would come to fix it - 1 hour later a cleaner came with drain unblocker. We had dinner with colleagues and weren’t offered an alternative place to shower and so had to go without. Phone in the room doesn’t work. Blind on one window was broken, and the other window wouldn’t open properly. Smell of sewage came in the windows if they were open. Isn’t convenient if you don’t enjoy walking up almost vertical hills. AC didn’t work properly. No lift, we were on 3rd floor. Cleaners were very kind and did a good job. Some staff were nice and accommodating, others were not. Overall, wouldn’t stay again.
