It's taken over a month for me to decide how to approach this review because I think weight needs to be put on the location. What I mean by that is on the northwestern end of PR, there are no major hotel brands, just guest houses and mom & pop "hotels," so I feel the star rating should be adjusted because it's like comparing apples and oranges.
I chose Casa Verde because the rest of the group we were meeting were staying nearby and that place was already full. The day before arrival, however, that group moved since the power was out. So a big plus for Casa Verde is there is a "whole house" generator. Another wise choice was choosing the Las Palmas suite for our room - it was the furthest from Big Kahuna which I had read in other reviews as being loud. Between the impact glass and the bed being in the rear, the noise was not bad BUT we discovered most of the loud music was from another place on the beach.
We also chose the suite because my husband was diving and I was going to have a lot of time to kill. It was so windy and intermittently rainy that weekend that I was glad to have something other than the bed to sit on.
The bad things in the room:
Storage: There were a couple of wire bins in the (open) closet organizer for drawers. Fortunately we are on the tall side so could reach them.
Bathroom: It was impossible to have water stay in just the shower area. The floor did not have enough of an incline and there was no shower door. Sink - When regular power was on instead of generator, pressure was so strong it splashed up out of the sink back onto the mirror and all over the counter and floor. Towels were horrible; so thin that they were soaked before you were dry. Also, on the last "cleaning" we were left with only hand towels, no bath size.
Bed: Some would find it OK, we found it hard. Sheets were never changed. I had hit the sheet with my shoe when taking it off leaving a scuff of dirt and it remained that way for our stay.
Floor: This was my biggest issue - it was filthy. You could see the dirt along the edges but our feet were filthy, too. Coming out of the shower, our wet footprints could be seen. When I was in the room, I wore socks. When I brought them home and washed them, they were still dirty so I threw them out. I did report that and was told, "The floors are cleaned thoroughly ever three weeks." Well, they must have been due.
Store: It was great and necessary. Besides the java a place around the corner, there was no where within walking distance (I had no car) to grab a bite in the morning. And when I say bite, there were packaged muffins, crackers, cookies, chips. There was food available once Big Kahuna opened.
Pool: There was one, while most other places did not have one. The lounges by the pool, while sturdy and attractive were "wood" and not comfortable for more than 10 minutes.
Owners: This is why I hesitated writing this review - they are completely lovely people. Willing to listen to suggestions and just trying to make it the best stay possible.
Personally, if we ever go back to the Rincon area, we will look for someplace else.
