Casa Xaver

Beautiful house that matches the photos BUT...the 3rd bedroom right on the road has no sound protection and you can hear every noise outside. Carousing groups, big trucks, car alarms. Construction is going on next door. We arrived Friday night. They were dumping construction materials into dump trucks until 2am. Started up with jackhammers early Saturday am. Monday while we were out, they were building up the wall that abuts the courtyard (blocking the light for the home and ruining their decorative wall). We found hardened concrete everywhere, including big gobs on the sidewalk. The next morning while we were packing to leave, they were again working on the wall while we were walking back and forth packing up. Handling large concrete blocks high over our heads and one of those big gobs of wet concrete just missed my nieces head. So unfortunate.

My wife and I just spent eight wonderful days in Casa Xaver. The location is great – right in the middle of town, just two blocks from the main boulevard, the Paseo de Montejo, and maybe a quarter mile north of the main plazas, markets, and historical buildings of old Merida. You can Uber if you want, but we ended up walking almost everywhere. Casa Xaver has a simple but elegant feel to it. It cuts through the middle of a city block with bedrooms in the front, kitchen and dining room in the middle, and a pool with a small grove of trees in the back where you can lounge in a hammock. The kitchen has modern appliances, the dining area is spacious, and the bedrooms have 10 or 12 foot ceilings, which gives them an open, airy feel. Our bedroom was connected to a huge bathroom with an awesome walk-in shower, two sinks, and oodles of room to spare. There’s AC, a washer and dryer, and plenty of privacy. If you’re looking for cozy and fun getaway, I would highly recommend this place.
