Casa Yaneva CAMAGUEY

If you would like to know what a luxurious American 50'ies villa looked like inside and out than this is your house. Nothing has changed in some fifty or more years here. Everything is in original 50'ies style. It is for people who can appreciate the classical atmosphere of a quality hotel and restaurant including the polite chit-chat at cocktails time. The very experienced owners are top class and so is the quality of the restaurant. Beautiful food and a wide choice. Top quality that came as a surprise to me and very welcome at that. Staff is always present in the background at your service and extremely quiet and neat. Bed- and bathroom are comfortable and tidy. Some great extra is the possibility to park your car safely in the garage. This house is not for backpackers nor for young hiking travelers. With all respect; they would spoil the whole idea of what this place is all about. Top quality in a classical 50'ies setting. Excellent choice for people who can appreciate that.

I had a booking at Yaneva but the owners moved me to another casa without even telling me! It was possible for them as I had a late arrival, and asked them to arrange a transfer from the bus station. The driver met me and drove me to the other casa, Casa Anjela y Luis as I've found later. The owners, a nice and modest old couple, met me without saying any word about it was not Yaneva. Only when I entered the room I found their card and understood what has happened. But as it was too late, and in fact everything was OK for me in that casa I've decided not to make any noise and to look what wil happen. In the morning they've led me to Yaneva to have a breakfast, but without even telling me it was Yaneva. The breakfast was very good, and during it I've met some of the staff, and maybe even owners. Everybody called me by my name and was wondering if everything was OK – but again, not even a word about what happened. Finally, coming back to my casa I've asked Anjela why I wasn't accomodated in Yaneva and nobody even told me about it – and she answered me with her perfect smile that Yaneva is the Casa of her sister, so it doesn't matter.||So, all in all:||- no information about my relocation||- no explanation||- no apologise.||After spending 2 weeks in Cuba I've learnt something about Cuban people, and I'm sure that in this situation the owners don't realize they have done something wrong. They really feel themselves as a whole organism with their family, their neighbours and their city – and they don't see any difference between their casa and the casa they removed me to. Probably they don't understand that if you are booking their casa according to the reviews and photos you are going to get to this specific casa and not to any other.||So I hope my review and mark will help to change their unrespectful and ignorant attitude to their unhappened guests. I''m sure that all the positive reviews here are truthful, but I will never try again to check it.||And be aware that the same story can happen with you if you book Yaneva.

First, the very minor downside. It's not totally central. That's not to say it's far either. We like a good walk and it's scarcely10-15 mins' walk out of town. But it did make getting here quite complex as we arrived from the Viazul terminal (other side of town) so our poor bici-taxi (rickshaw) driver had no clue where it was even though we had the street address. Take the casa telephone number (0053 032 297931) and be prepared to call them and pass the phone to the taxi driver to get directions.||||And now for the good stuff. Service - amazing. Certificates of hospitality training are posted up in the dining room, and it's clear that the owners have years of experience; my guess is that they trained in high end hotels too. The layout is a bit odd - there's the normal hall/living room that then feeds into a mini kitchen and dining table area next to your room, and a private leaf-covered terrace. They run a restaurant upstairs. In practice, all this means you have two trained chefs AND the owners waiting hand and foot on you if you have dinner there (do. it's delicious and saves traipsing into and out of town for inferior food. There's also a wine list if you've already had your fill of mojitos and daiquiris). Breakfast is vast, with fruit, cheese, bread and fruit juice as well as tea and coffe. And the place is spotlessly clean and well air conditioned. The staff are lovely and there's always someone on hand to answer the door or mind luggage for you. I really can't understand why some people have rated this badly, unless they've had a problem with booking.

We stayed in Casa Yaneva on the way from Houlgin to Trinidad. The owners have experience in hotel industry. The highlight was definitely the food- the casa has own cook and they offered excellent food, way better than food offered in tourist resorts.||The rooms were small but comfortable and very clean. ||The place was a walking distance from the old centre.

Arriving, the host took us to another house, which was not nearly as nice as Yaneva and without staff, so we reneged and went back to the main house.|From here on, our stay was really nice, Eva and Jose and their staff did everything possible to make our stay a pleasant one. We had a lovely dinner, as the skies opened, when we wanted to go out and a good and varied breakfast.

Everything was all right but just one thing. Ask for the price before using or eating even a little bit. Especially for the minibar: they just welcomed us to use it, but didn't say even a word that every little cookie would not cost less than 1 CUC. So, when I found the final bill to be 100 CUC for one night (3 persons), the only thought I had was that for that money we could have stayed in a 3-star hotel with parking and breakfast included. The room and all the other sevices was good, though. So, I won't recommend to avoid this house. Just keep in mind that everyting has a price in there -- and you'll stay OK.

Back home after my last trip to Camaguey where I have visited in the past 2 years twice a month.||||After a brief and not satisfying experience in a local Hotel I discovered and I always stay at Casa Yaneva with offers excellent service, always.||||I rent the entire rentable space which consist of 2 sleeping rooms both with self enclosed bathrooms and fully stocked refrigerators. The sleeping rooms are ||divided by a small area witha table where I usually work at my compuer, a dining room, and a very cozy patio excellet area to enjoy a drink, coffee, music ||and domino or card game when in company of friends.||||The sleeping room and rentable area offer complete privacy and quiet as owners accommodations are located on the second floor.||||Must mention the culinary skills od Silvia who is always ready to prepara my breakfast, luch and dinner when needed and able to cook my preferred dishes.||||Laudry service is also available and again Silvia does a great job in the washing and ironing of my clothing.||||I rent a car and the house offers a secure garage . Also the house is located in a very quite locations, no traffic, loud noise etc ||||I highly recommned Casa Yaneva.||||Thank you Eva and Jose for making me feel like at home when in Camaway.||||Dino

Casa Yaneva is definately a good choice in Camaguey. They are located in an interesting 50's era neighbourhood close to the center. The owners are very helpful in planing activities around town. The food is plentiful and good. They will offer to pick you up and drive you to the Viazul station just keep in mind they will charge you 5 pesos ea. way which is reasonable but I just thought the cost should have been mentionned before being presented with the final bill.
