On May 16th, my family visited Casablanca on the Bay to celebrate our late patriarch's birthday and our youngest member's prom night. Our bartender, Danielle, was intuitive, kind, and efficient, and our server, Shabeily, was delightful. However, the experience soured when the restaurant ran out of regular ketchup, offering only an in-house mango version my sister disliked. Despite repeated requests, servers failed to bring regular ketchup, eventually delivering excessive amounts of what was clearly tomato paste--not ketchup, as confirmed by my chef mother and my own kitchen experience.
The manager, Maria Paz, who had been drinking at the bar, approached our table with a hostile "What seems to be the problem?" Instead of addressing our concerns, she smugly insisted everything was made in-house, dismissing our ability to distinguish ketchup from paste. Worse, she mocked us with the tomato paste, prompting my mother to confirm with the chef in charge or so we thought, Lupe, that it was indeed paste. We then saw Lupe reprimanding Maria Paz and laughing about the incident, which added to the unprofessionalism. Maria Paz's behavior--drinking on the job, hostility, refusal to apologize, and mocking customers--ruined our night. Poor management overshadows the staff's efforts, and I'll never return to this poorly run establishment. Better off going to any other locations or just a simple Flannigans won't disappoint like this.
