5 Best Day Trips from New York City | Condé Nast Traveler

"At the end of this hike is a picturesque, cold waterfall. The air is crisp and clean here, and it feels a bit like you fell off the map, in the best way. Relatively easy for beginning hikers, sometimes with a bit of mud at the end of the trail, this is a slightly tricky-to-find spot with unfortunately few easements. But if you don't mind muddying your boots a bit, and just want to stretch your legs without going all out, this one's for you." - Alex Van Buren, Devra Ferst, Andrea Whittle

Not much water flowing through the day of our visit. Still a very beautiful area close to downtown North Adams. No parking at the trailhead. We parked at the elementary school. Nice hike along the stream up to the falls. Couple of stream crossings that could be difficult at high water levels. In and out hike that's about 2 miles total.

I took my ten year old grandson and we had such a fun time! Park at YMCA or nearby park. Waterfall is beautiful and hike is easy and fun along water. Wear appropriate shoes it can be muddy and wet in spots. Great hike not too hard even for young children.

Some rocks & roots to look out for. Relatively easy otherwise. One tricky spot where trail ends up in the rocks in creek bed but with careful rock hopping you can regain the trail. Wear sturdy footwear. Cascade best seen if you climb down to the creek bed at the trail end. Park at the end of the school lot or the Y lot to find trailhead. Follow blue paint markers through residential neighborhood until reaching actual trail. Takes about 1.5 hours without a lot of loitering. Might not be the best with little kids. Some spots may be tricky if one is inexperienced and carrying a child on their back. If this is helpful, click "like".

Wow the most beautiful peaceful area, I have been. Believe me I've been to alot of places. Few pointers though. You have to park at the YMCA. The trail starts behind the building right in front of the elementary school. Same parking lot as the Y. When you walk over the bridge, you have to walk straight on the street and follow the signs to the trail head. There are multiple signs on the way there.

Can’t park here. I parked at Brayton Hill Park. The waterfall is nice and the hike is easy.

Relaxing walk to a beautiful waterfall. Park in the lot of the elementary school/YMCA and follow path to second cross street, then turn right and head to tailhead. Lovely forest had moderate traffic and leashed dogs.

This trail was really nice and pretty quick. I’d say 25-30 minutes to walk it depends how quick you go though maybe 45 minutes for someone who walks a little slower or an older folk. It could be a little difficult to find if you park at the ymca it has an elementary school next to it in front of the school has a map how to get to the trail. You walk through the woods and cross a bridge then go across the road and take a right when you can’t walk straight anymore and at the end of the road is the trail next to a house.

Captain Ahab of Ahab's Adventures hiking to the Cascade at the end of the short walk it takes to get there. Perfect location to bring a coffee and catch up with friends as you head into the woods. If you are brave enough, you can take a dip in many of the pools anytime of the year!
