We were nervous after all the terrible reviews lately, but all in all we had a good experience at Cascade. ||We really enjoyed our time here but not 5 stars. First, we stayed in the family apartment suite which was a perfect setup for our family of four. The kids shared a room and we had our own room and master bath. There was a decent size living room and a full kitchen. The outdoor balcony was also very spacious. The room though was showing signs of its age. There were stains on the carpet and sofa. The pillows on the bed were paper thin and uncomfortable. ||The rest of the resort was nice. The main pool was great and we always found a couple of chairs. The wait staff worked hard but they could use another member or two for the afternoons at the pool. We paid for the daily breakfast buffet with our room, which was plenty of food for the family each morning but no real changes to the menu day to day. That said, the breakfast buffet was expansive and had a wide array of food for kids, adults, vegetarians, those with celiac, etc. We ended up eating at the dinner buffet two times (once out of convenience versus choice). One night there was live music and fresh grilled meat and seafood on the patio dining. A lovely experience. ||The staff at the front desk were friendly, as was the concierge. The staff in the restaurant at breakfast were hit or miss in terms of friendliness and being helpful. ||People reported ants and we did see a couple on our last day. Otherwise, bugs were not a problem at all. ||As for the gym, it’s pretty sad. Just an open air room with a few cardio machines and some weights. We tried to use our phones for online classes but the WiFi at the resort is so bad, the classes just kept buffering. The gym is also in a partially finished building, so not very nice at all. That said, you can get a workout in here if you need one. ||Location wise, it’s a great spot if you are looking to still be nearby Lagos (which is a great town). We Ubered into town or drove to the parking garage next to the historic center. I don’t recommend trying to drive the streets of inner Lagos though. Park in the garage at the edge of the town (near mini golf?) and it’s a quick walk into town. ||From the resort, you can walk down to the beach by road out of the resort but it’s a good 15 minute walk down and it’s uphill the whole way back to the hotel. You can also walk to the beach along the cliff trails, but that’s even longer (30 minutes?) and not a big beach. If you want a great beach, we recommend heading over to Luz, where the beach is easy to access, has a lovely boardwalk with tons of restaurants, and all the beach gear you could want. Only a 15 minute drive from the resort, and easier to park in as a town. ||All in all, if you’re looking for a nice spot with room for the family, it’s a good choice. It’s just not a 5 Star/luxury resort.
