The food here is amazing and all the hype about it is absolutely true! The service is incredibly fast and the wait staff is super nice. Don't miss this place is more than just a sandwich shop.

Google
Wow. Just wow. How a sandwich can be this good. I got the one with mozzarella and lemon, it was just stunning, the lemon makes such a difference! Also, the bread itself is amazing. The staff is friendly. I paid 8 euros for the panini and coffee. Finding a place was not a problem in February :)

Google
The most insane sandwiches! I went twice during my week stay in ortigia. No problem finding a table, I went for brunch. Freshest ingredients and the cutest blue eyed waiter I’ve ever seen! Just wow x

Google
Great sandwich shop! Very busy, but must come. Big, fresh and delicious sandwiches for a great price. We had the chef special #6 with meat and cheese. Also had the #4 with pesto cream. Highly recommend both. Don't miss this place!

Google
A must visit place in Ortigia to have one of the best sandwiches of your life. This place has huge amount of reviews for a good reason. Apparently, the queue can take over an hour in the high season but off-season, there is really no excuse not to visit. There are several different sandwiches in offer but the best thing to do is to ask them to prepare one for you as they see fit. You won't be disappointed. Ours had a lot of different ingredients, including mortadella, pistachio pesto, dried tomatoes and many others. The sandwich costs 8 EUR, it's huge and can easily feed 2 people. In the morning they make big Italian versions of empanadas with different fillings, which cost 5 EUR for 2. Makes a nice breakfast or a snack for later. It is possible to sit at a table but one can also sit on a bench at the promenade nearby.

Google
Great, hearty sandwiches. I wish I hadn’t ordered anything in addition to the Chef’s sandwich that my husband ordered. We could have easily shared that delicious sandwich filled with ham, salami, mozzarella, stewed eggplant & a tomato concoction that was to die for! My caprese salad was good: fabulous mozzarella, but fresh tomatoes not quite ripe. Best time, I’m going to order the charcuterie my neighbor ordered! It was a fun & active place to have lunch in Ortigia.

Google
A very busy and authentic Italian experience on the market of Syracuse. Really friendly employees and the food was even better! Freshly made to order, very efficient and super delicious! Big recommendation to go there on your visit to Syracuse!

Google
Delicious! I loved both ham&mozzarella sandwich and the salad with turkey. If you want a lighter meal, one sandwich and one salad to share is more than enough for two people

Yelp
Awesome Find! Stopped here for lunch and it turned out to be dinner also!!! Border was hopping. So very busy. Might add the the five days we passed by, different times during the day it was always the same...BUSY. But we only had to wait a matter of minutes to be seated, not much longer to order. And food arrived shortly afterwards. When the sandwiches arrived they were huge and beautiful. We ordered the Panino #4 and the Panino #8. The #4 had ham, mozzarella, fresh tomatoes and pistachio pesto. Panini #8 consisted of cappacola, artichokes, fresh tomatoes, artichoke cream and provolone. They were great. The ingredients on both were awesome. The couple next to us decided in one sandwich and a salad after seeing our order!!! Highly recommend. Reasonable prices. Great service.

Yelp
My sister wanted to come here after seeing this place on TikTok and not going to lie, it was worth it! Skeptical as I was, the line moved quick and we sat right away, ordered and then our sandwich and meat board were out within minutes. The meat plate for one was a lot more than I thought and I couldn't polish it off (as bad as I wanted to). Such a low price for so much food, this place is the real deal!! Now....for me to figure out a way to eat all the cured meats and cheese every single day for the rest of my life and not have any cholesterol or heart issues.

Yelp
This was the best sandwich I've ever had. We booked a trip to Siracusa just to try the sandwich and it did not disappoint. The shop is small but exactly as you'd expect. And they have a restroom available! The staff was friendly. They gave us a sample of cheese which melted in your mouth. $8 and I split it with my husband. We were stuffed.

Yelp
This is "The Sandwich Guy" in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy. Yes, it's super delicious, yes, it's worth a wait, and yes, the main man will look at you and based on his feelings, a sandwich will be created for you. Who knows what formula is going on in his head, but however he comes to his conclusion, the fact is that you will soon be consuming a delicious sandwich made with tons of Italian love/flavor (in the form of cured meat and cheese). It's great how he'll give you little samples of this and that. All this said, if you want to avoid crowds, just try to come at non-peak eating hours. This spot can be the sole reason of making a little trek to Siracusa. Bless the Sandwich Guy!

Dave B.

Yelp
You go for the delicious, favorable sandwiches. We split the #6, Chef's Choice, which was great: perfect baguette, prosciutto, mozzarella, another cheese, eggplant, sun-dried tomatoes, lettuce. You sit outside (the only option) on uncomfortable chairs and share your dining experience with flies. €15.50 for lunch for 2

D L.

Yelp
Ok, this place is a mad house. The sandwich's are ridiculous in size. 2 of 3 people can eat 1 sandwich. It was a bit crowded so get there early, like when they open. I was amazed at how fast they work. Food and service are great , highly recommend....

Christina R.

Yelp
6 euros for a GIANT DELICIOUS sandwich?? This is an absolute must if you're in Siracusa. If you wait in line inside you'll need to take a number, but not for outside. Fortunately for me, one of the employees spoke English and was kind enough to (1) explain this to me, and (2) make sure I got a sandwich in time to get back to my tour group. They'll do a thing where they start to make some sandwiches ahead (throw some of the same toppings on that they're using for another sandwich), and you can sort of skip the number system and get that one. I was so happy with the customer service, and ecstatic with my sandwich. I couldn't tell you all that was on it but let's go with a bunch of meat, some of the best cheese I've ever had, and lots of veggies. Still drooling thinking about it weeks later.

Mimi D.

Yelp
What a sandwich. Made with such love. I'll be dreaming of this place till we meet again. Extremely busy but well worth the wait.

Celina G.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches at a great price! It was my best lunch in italy. It was absolutely mesmerizing watching the employees function so well together and quickly creating these sandwiches with such artistry. All of their ingredients were fresh and tasty. We didn't quite know the system going into it so make sure you grab a number before going in!! Sitting down is also a great option as the food comes out very quickly.

Yelp
This is the place where the world's best sandwich is made. WORLDS BEST SANDWICH, don't test me. My GF and friends decided to take a trip to Italy (2019), I had never been to this part of Italy so I was 100% down for it. We had been walking around the market across from our Airbnb and noticed that there was this large crowd just gathered at a stall. All I could hear was these men shouting happily in Italian. What's all this then? When we got to the front of the stall we noticed this Older gentleman happily tossing meats and olive oil around, with a plethora of fresh ingredients in front of him while his younger friend basically MC'd what was happening and was selling fresh cheese LOL. This was hands down the best and most energized intimate experience with a small large crowd I could have asked for in Italy. The MC was handing out samples of cheese, very smart and very tasty. He got a sale every other minute. AND EVERY TIME THEY GOT A SALE THEY SUNG AND DANCED. BREEEEEHHHH it was fire. The line leading up to order is long, I'm not sure about now W covid variants, etc but I also believe that there is another line to order pre-made sandwiches. You have to wait for the experience lol This sandwich cost about 6 euros. Blimpie, Subway, Publix, Safeway, Ikes LMAO ain't got anything on this one-man army w MC. Be warned! They put hellla stuff on this sandwich, its all fresh! You can eat the whole thing solo but DO NOT make plans to do anything for at least an hour afterwards lol. I really hope that they are doing well over there! I checked their FB page and they are still open! GO give them a visit, its 100% worth it.... 1000010% worth it

Yelp
Really excellent sandwiches and charcuterie plates. It is famous and popular for very good reading. Huge portions -- one order will easily serve two. Friendly staff, though a bit distracted with all the takeout customers. This really is a takeout place with just a couple tables, so don't expect appetizers, drink menu, salads, or other restaurant accompaniments.

Dan E.

Yelp
This was my favorite meal in Sicily. A sandwich and meat platter prepared while you wait. While the process is slow, watching the preparation is truly a work of art. Hand pulled mozzarella, fresh sliced prosciutto, hand sliced salami topped with chopped salad/olives and hot peppers placed on a fresh hero. If you are visiting Siracusa from abroad, they will vacuum seal meats/cheeses for you to take back home.

Lesley F.

Yelp
This place is special. It's famous. The most amazing sandwich you will have ever eaten in your life. You will stand in line. This man making sandwiches, I'm pretty sure he's been doing it all his life. He will give you some samples of very special sandwich ingredients while you wait in line. The cheese, meat and veggies that are put into these sandwiches are delicacies! My favorite part was the mozzarella cheese, truly the most exquisite I've ever tasted.

Jordon B.

Yelp
The best sandwich I have ever eaten! It was about a 45 minute wait, but so worth it and very entertaining. The sandwich artist keeps up a steady conversation with hungry people waiting for lunch and he very generously hands out tastes of their amazing cheeses. First, the crusty bread, then a choice of spicy pepper caponata or mushrooms. Then a HUGE pile of greens, lettuces, mint, herbs tomatoes and a grating of hard cheese. Then a layer of absolutely fresh mozzarella and drizzles of olive oil. Oh yes. Fresh squeeze of lemon. Next you choose your meat. We went for mortadella thinly sliced and wrapped around fresh orange slices and a generous dollop of soft ricotta. We ate this with a bottle of Nero Di Avelo wine and ricotta dolce for dessert. Unbelievably delicious. Everyone working there, and waiting in line, we're happy and welcoming. Fabulous.

Yelp
5 euro for delicious sandwich and unique atmosphere is such a great deal. No matter if you are Sicilian, Italian, European you have to try it while visiting Ortigia. The chef is creating unforgettable show while preparing your sandwich - joking, smiling, giving samples. You don't have to speak Italian to have a great fun. And then the sandwich comes. It's enormous, has tons of cheeses and it's perfect. We shared half and were full, glad we had to take a walk. We were also happy to eat rest of it later. Great experience and great food!

Johnny C.

Yelp
Best 5 euros I ever spent. A single sandwich is stuffed with delicious deli items and feeds two people. They make a different sandwich each day. I got a chance to try one from the father and one from the daughter. The father's may have been a little tastier, but he has been at it much longer. I have no doubt she will one day be even better than the father.

Lynsey K.

Yelp
Without doubt, this was the best sandwich I ever had in my life! No other sandwich will ever be able to beat the one I got from this amazing little cheese shop turned sandwich bar in Ortigio Market. Though the queue was long, we were entertained by the 'artist' sandwich maker during our wait. You couldn't imagine the amount of ingredients and the mass that he is able to pack in between two pieces of bread...but he does!! I will highly recommend this place to anyone who comes anywhere close to Sicily! It's worth the trip!

Roger W.

Yelp
OK, this feels like piling on, but those other reviews that claimed these were the best sandwiches ever? They were understating the case by a lot. Sheer heaven. So many ingredients and so many flavors packed into a harmonious whole needs to be tasted to be believed. Watching this man make sandwiches is poetry in motion. It was like getting to watch Michelangelo carve. Whatever else you do in Italy, come to this shop for the best sandwich you will ever eat.

D P.

Yelp
Hands down best panini ever ! I don't know what all he put in it .. but it was spectacular for €6 And the guy making it was so charming ..

David L.

Yelp
Take a number. Got samples of warm mozzarella cheese and pecorino cheese with pepper while waiting in line. Trust the chef. He made a a sandwich with capricola, mozzarella cream, mozzarella cheese, arugula, pistachio sauce, onion jam, sun-dried tomatoes. Torched. Great food that can feed 2 easily. Great sense of humor. Only 5 euros. Deserves 7 stars!

Julie B.

Yelp
Can't believe I neglected to review this amazing sandwich shop after our trip to Sicily this summer. Holy cow - while the line outside is fun, slip past the gawkers and head indoors for quick service and an equally amazing sandwich. We opted to let them surprise us and we were so glad we did. Spectacular sandwiches with a prices that is insanely low - you couldn't buy all of the ingredients and compose a sandwich for 1/3 of what they are charging. Sitting in the area out front, we gawped as huge platters of mixed cheeses and charcuterie floated by to other tables. It is a scene, a sight to behold, but most of all, incredibly delicious.

Brent C.

Yelp
You can find it by the queue out front and the heaps of fresh cheeses in display. A dizzying array of options and super friendly service. Bring your appetite and a sense of adventure and try a sandwich unlike anything you've ever had. The sandwich starts with a "foot long" torpedo type fresh baked roll. Onto this is placed a pile of ingredients. The basic idea is that you pick your meat and two or three cheeses. This is rolled together and set on a bed of chopped lettuce, radicchio, basil, and tomatoes. Then it's squirted with olive oil and topped with your choice of sun-dried cherry tomatoes, caponata, marinated mushrooms, olives, pickled vegetables, and maybe some other things I haven't noticed. Meat choices appear to be prosciutto, speck, mortadella, ham, and salami. Cheeses include pecorino, fresh mozzarella, smoked mozzarella, ricotta, smoked ricotta, and ricotta salata (similar to feta). My fave was the mortadella and speck with pecorino and ricotta, topped with olive and marinated mushrooms. Delicious!!!

Chris P.

Yelp
An experience. You have to go here if you're ever in Siracusa. This man is a magician when it comes to creating panini. You have to go in here open minded knowing that you're not going to get exactly what you want on the panino but you have to trust him. We waited over 1 hour but we were entertained the entire time, if you speak Italian and understand the artist, you'll have a good laugh while you wait. 5 Euros, this place can not be beat.

David S.

Yelp
At Caseificio Borderi, you have to trust the chef as there is no menu, just magic. The father, the son, or the daughter-in-law gives you samples and jokes on which to knosh while divinity and inspiration collaborate on your five euro sandwich. On our first of several visits, the son laid out provolone slices onto which he spread three lines of goodness: pistachio pesto, mozzarella cream (the stuff that goes into burrata), and honey. He folded over the sides to make a tube of savory, creamy, sweet, which he flattened on top of the sandwich. He said he was surprised I needed him to speak English because, as I heard him say, "you have an Italian taco." No idea what he truly meant, but I would eat an Italian taco if he made one. We walked by later during some kind of graduation ceremony with people clapping and throwing buckets of water at each other. The father dropped his sandwich tools, grabbed a hose, and ran into the crowd, showering the celebrants, and then got right back to making sandwiches. This place is the real deal.

Rachel G.

Yelp
This place is out of control good! It was honestly the best meal I had in Sicily. The experience, the food, the wine. Go, you'll be so thankful.

Alex W.

Yelp
I read the reviews and went. First off, the sandwich is incredibly large. Like I need a fork to eat it right. Half a sandwich is enough to get you full, but you should get a full one. I ordered 2, but I don't think I can finish it even by tomorrow. we'll see? I waited over an hour and it takes him 5 to 10 minutes to make a sandwich. The sandwich - very good. lots of cheeses, if I spoke Italian I could probably get a few things on it but man did I luck out. Ask for honey on your cheese and see if you can get some of that potato spread. For 5 euros, you're wondering how that works for him... no idea

Julien G.

Yelp
Simply the one place any tourist need to visit when going to Syracuse. After looking with envy at the market, you'll order the biggest, baddest, and best sandwich of your life, with a glass of wine. And you'll be full, happy and contented. I'm not the biggest fan of big sandwiches with tons of vegetables. Here; it seems like every vegetable complete the other, and goes perfect with the cheese and ham of the day... Salivating just by thinking about it. A perfect adress, for a couple, a family, or a quick stop ! I've ate great sandwiches in France and NYC. Those, here, in sicily, are the best.

Betty H.

Yelp
One of the best sandwiches you can eat in Siracusa for 6 Euro. Big enough to share with someone

Bunny C.

Yelp
We came here every day for their delicious sandwiches and fresh squeezed orange juice. The cheese was also amazing and they created a cheese appetizer that my family loved (cubes of fresh pecorino pepato with mint leaves, lemon zest and lemon juice). Try it! Was amazing.

Nick D.

Yelp
Honestly this might be the best bang-for-your-buck in the entire world. Massive hand-crafted sandwiches for only a few Euro. Incredible ingredients, homemade mozzarella, a fun environment inside. Just be sure to get there early or be prepared to wait in line--he takes his time with each sandwich, putting love into every one!

Jaime S.

Yelp
I'm not usually a fan of delis but this one is something else. Our waiter sat us outside on the edge of a fresh farmer's market and told us that he would take care of us. Promptly took our allergies and brought us a choice of two wines to sample and select. The deli meats came out on a wooden board with perfect mozzarella balls and other delightful cheeses. Our friend had a small container of fresh seafood. Everything was delicious. The owners also produce their own cheese by aging them in barrels in a nearby cave - which you can buy and take home with you to enjoy for breakfast. Just an overall excellent place, with the friendly and funny service of a waiter that represents everything one loves about Italian food life!

Rebecca S.

Yelp
Only thing better than a real Sicilian fresh fruit, veggie, and fish market? An incredible and unique Sicilian panino! This family-run business makes cheese, bread, and other delicious local specialities. Andre, the Panini Master, will make you a one-of-a-kind panini that you won't find anywhere else. Yesterday's panini: fresh-baked bread with some of the dough scooped out to make room for all of the toppings: fresh tomatoes, dried tomatoes, capers, 2 kinds of fresh cheeses, dried oregano, fresh basil, a little bit of prosciutto and salami on top. WOW, I almost forgot to mention the squeeze of fresh Sicilian lemon juice! This could be the BEST PANINO in Origia / Siracusa, Sicily! All of this for a total of only 4 Euro for a huge panini that my husband and I split.... it's no wonder we don't want to leave! :)

Gabe K.

Yelp
Andrea Borderi makes a unique sandwich every time. Just order how many you want and the rest is up to the sandwich master himself. The best sandwich I've ever had, and possibly best in the world. Definitely recommend stopping here if you're in Siracusa!!

Noel L.

Yelp
Probably the Best sandwich of sicilia, the guys are doing the show and sharing their fresh product during the line. I had 2 different cheese, 1 sandwich sample and 1 glass of wine before i could even place my order. It's just amazing, the sandwich is enormous and is cheap ! Only 5€, that's nothing for a sandwich with more ingredient than bread.

Brian S.

Yelp
Excellent food but confusing service. The line is long long long but locals come and go without the wait. At first we thought they ordered ahead. Listen up. When someone orders a sandwich ahead of you they make extras based on the amount of ingredients prepared. If you don't mine eating whatever (we got 3 different types and all were better than good) you can walk past the line and ask for the extras sitting on the side of the prep area. If you want it your way don't forget to grab a number and get ready to wait.

Emily P.

Yelp
Loved the tip we received to bypass the line and ask for an already made sandwich to buy. It was easily one of the best sandwiches I've ever had and got to miss standing in the line with my ten month old was a bonus!

Kristof K.

Yelp
This seriously was the best sandwich I´ve had in my life. No kidding. Incredibly friendly and patient staff too, a place to fall in love with!

Kenneth W.

Yelp
The famed "Sandwich Man"! If you are going to be in Syracuse, save some room and get a sandwich from here. You simply walk up, ask for a sandwich and watch the magic happen. You don't even have to tell then what you want, they put everything on it and trust me, you won't want it any other way. The sandwiches they make are massive, with tons of different flavors and textures. It would not be a stretch to say it was one of (if not) the best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. You simply must go!

joe C.

Yelp
I wish I could give more than five stars. Not only was the sandwich prepared but the most charming little elderly man in all of Sicily but it was delicious.

Anton A.

Yelp
My friends and I ordered a plate for three persons and got some outstanding ham, cheese, mortadella and bread for just €5 per person. Should be accompanied by a glass of nice wine or prosecco and the waiter is happy to help you choose.
