Yelp
The Caspian Market was a true family favorite immediately after we moved to the Valley from the east coast 11 years ago. We loved all their fresh feta cheeses from the Balkans and France, the wide variety of spices, olives, nuts, canned/packaged foods, middle eastern prepared foods, sweets, and, of course, their freshly made, hot from brick oven flat breads. The entire staff from the checkout staff to Sam, manger, were very welcoming.
Unfortunately, in recent months it's become obvious to us that the market has changed dramatically. Many significant small and large differences have emerged. The elderly male master baker doesn't seem to be around, and a very young guy is baking. The woman, who produced the amazingly delicious, huge bowls of tabooli, hummus, and multiple other delicacies, is gone, replaced by a less skilled male. No longer will the checkout women provide juice to preserve large olive purchases, or brine for big chunks of the fetas. The prior congenial staff, now no longer desire to please the customer.
I assume the increasing financial crisis and inflation has figured into these sudden, apparently cost-cutting changes. It's sad that a former favorite will receive less and less patronage from us! Although hope springs eternal that the Caspian will return to its former customer-centered approach, along with better prepared food and bread makers.
