Castañeda's Mexican Food

This food was so fantastic and delicious. I ordered at 1:45am today. And eating this brightened my mood. I’ve had other castañeda’s locations and it’s never tasted this good. Would recommend the birria fries. Thank you to the cook and cashier.

Whoever was doing and made the menudo tonight on December 20th Saturday at 11:55 pm most absolutely amazing thank you so much this is highly recommended give me all the accommodations needed. This flavor feels just like home.

The best people. I ordered from their location for pickup by mistake, on UberEats. The app wouldn't let me cancel for refund but the manager personally assisted when I called. She fixed it all and was so nice. Thank you!!! This is a chain so the food is fine, it's all the same, what's awesome about this branch is really nice employees and management who actually care. Thank you for making my night!!!

No gonna lie, I was a little skeptical about a 24hrs Taco joint. I was told I had to go and had to try Carne Asda Fries. Well it was fire. It is a fast food type place but the food was really good. Service at this location was friendly and they were very polite. I learned on this trip it’s a California spot and not bad at all. Try it out and I believe you won’t be disappointed. Remember it’s a fast food type so judge accordingly

So when you walk into the place there is no menu to look at and the lady working basically asked me “what do you want?” And I’m like ummmm food? Is there a menu or something? Then gives me a paper menu and I say I wanted a carne asada burrito with cheese and no guacamole and so she decided to order some kind of other burrito and i said again but I wanted carne asada and she was just like yeah yeah. So I go to sit down and dude randomly comes out with a mop and decides to start moping right next to where I was sitting and had headphones in so he couldn’t hear me so I had to get up and move then my food was done and the little bit of meat that was on there had no flavor and the rest was stuffed with rice and beans. If I wanted a bean and cheese burrito I would have asked for that. Before going I seen a few good reviews but personally I would not suggest this place at all. Also the price of the food was very expensive. I paid $20 just for the bean and cheese burrito. Very disappointing.

I stopped by this spot for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised. The food was flavorful and made to order; I especially enjoyed the tacos and quesadillas. The beans and rice complemented the meal well. However, the service was a bit slow, and the prices felt slightly high for the portion sizes. The atmosphere was typical of a fast-food setup—functional but nothing special. Overall, it's a decent place for a casual meal if you're in the area.

Tasty food. Friendly Service. Came in here with a few friends and noticed the place was clean and they had a really nice salad bar. 4 stars instead of 5 because I think I’ve had better Mexican cuisine at other establishments but this one hits the spot too.

He shouldn't be working there, he has an attitude problem, like "Small man Syndrome". Any ways food is decent. Not that bad, but decent. Our favorites are the "carne asada" fries, San Felipe Fries, & Burritos, meat only. I always ask for the shrimp in the San Felipe Fries to be seasoned a little more.

Went to the drive-thru and got the cheese enchiladas combo, and they were actually pretty good. It came with rice, beans, and pico on the side. I wish the cheese inside was a bit more melted, but everything still tasted good overall. The sauce had nice flavor and went well with the enchiladas.

Nice customer service and bomb food! Always eat here when craving Mexican food! Especially at their other locations throughout the Morongo Basin and Coachella Valley!

Absolutely, without a doubt, a must-visit. The food is amazing and the wait is low. Nice covered parking outside to stuff your face like a little piggy. What more could you want?

Ordered the $17 super nachos at 2 different times in a span of a few weeks. The small portion was received on Halloween at 6pm and the big portion of nachos was received October 18th at 2am. Looks like they're serving different portions at different times of the day. The small portion I received seems like a total rip off for $17 compared to the big portion sized photo. I mean we're talking $17 ($16.and some change to be exact) and they served me a small portion. What a joke. Looks like I'll be making my own nachos due to the inconsistency here.

Fantastic food! I work late and went through the drive thru at 1:30am. We had the Cali burrito (bomb), the big carne asada taco, and the fish taco plate (#11). Everything was so good. The fish tacos had delicious breaded fish with crispy cabbage and crema (add their green sauce and it's ) I've eaten here a number of times and have always been happy and full.

Wow! The shredded bulgogi burrito really knocked my socks off. I would've swallowed Ricardo's (the drive through attendant) kids but I had to get down on that burrito first. That salsa verde they got is out of this world. My boyfriend Alex Ortiz and I will be back here weekly looking to service Ricardo. Thanks Castanedas' family!

I am a frequent visitor of Castanedas mostly on Joshua Tree. But, been here a few times as well since I live in Twentynine Palms. Went here this evening and ordered some food to go. I ordered and paid for the chimichanga platter. On the menu board and on their online menu it shows that it comes with rice and beans. I had neither rice nor beans in my to go order. Only the chimichanga. Not sure why I paid $16.95 for an incomplete meal. The picture is from their menu.

The customer service team weren't very friendly! The order was for dine in but they served our food for "to go" and they didn't change it back! If you crave Mexican food it's okay to stop by at!

Turn off the 24/7 sign you guys are not open drive by 5am no one there to attend us we waited n saw workers inside but no one took our orders at drive through

I'd sell a kidney for the hot Cheeto burrito. 10/10 recommend. The worker was very nice and repeated my order and made sure I got the salsas that I wanted. Ordered at the drive thru and got my food right away. Big ass burrito too

This restaurant was much better when it was Santana's. But since the ownership/name change the food isn't as good and the portions are smaller. And they don't even include a drink with combo meals anymore. They charge extra for that now. And the condiments aren't as good either. It's gone from 5 stars when it was Santana's to only 3 stars now. And I'm being nice because it really deserves 2.5 stars but there isn't a half star option available.

Asked for a cup of water to go with my meal I purchased. I was informed they do not give out water cups they want you to purchase a drink. I believe that is illegal. Will not be going back anytime soon.

Food was cold. Took forever to receive. Asked for no sour cream and got sour cream. The service was horrible.

My enchiladas smelled like dog food .... The tomatoes are super red which is weird and the guacamole always looks old.

I got food poisoning as did my sister. It was miserable dealing with since the food wasn't even that good & the restaurant was dirty. The prices are ridiculous, $5 for a regular street taco? It is not worth those prices for the size and definitely not for the quality, obviously since there are quite a few other reviews of people saying they got sick.

food has always been great but the 1 star is because i asked for the restroom key went to the restroom and locked the door behind me and some man walked in while i was using the restroom. i felt very uncomfortable and very anxious the rest of the time spent in the restaurant.

I took a family trip coming from San Diego, on our way back we couldn't find any where else to eat until we found out there was a castañedas around. We decided to go there since we are regulars at the Chula Vista location. When we first walked in, there was no one in the front until I started peeking in the back- the only girl with orange/blonde hair working decided to help me. First of all, the lady was not even welcoming, she had a face and was hard to speak. She then asks me if the food was for here or to go, I then replied with to go. After I answered her question, I then asked her if we could dine in, she said yes (I was not aware you can dine in, since the covid) so I told her I'm dinning in, she said I had to make the drive thru line, I asked why, she said, because I was taking my food. Right after she said that, she walked away inside the kitchen and shouted, "I'm not taking your order" leaving me and my wife standing. I was so confused, I even politely told the lady, I didn't know we could dine in, no one came out until I talked louder if someone was taking my order.... so the cook came out and asked me what was happening, I told him what happened and went back to the girl.... telling her what I had said. Long story short, I traveled far away, and my heart has been with castañedas but employees like her destroy the restaurant name. I had never went through stuff like this. ( thank god I'm not from here, because I would never come back to that location) She needs to get fired honestly

the costumer service was AMAZING! The people who were working there are so nice !The food was spectacular! And last but not least, the ambiance was so chill and amazing.

Best Castanedas by far in the Yucca, Joshua Tree, 29 Palms area. I live in Joshua tree and will make the 15 min drive every time to get food made amazing and the way I ask. This is the best Mexican I have had in years. Thank you guys for the great food and amazing customer service. I was helped by Josh. He was so polite it made my night. Not to mention the who restaurant was clean and the restrooms were actually nice to be in, Can't say that about the Joshua tree store lol.

This place has mediocre food but the the main problem is the fact they always mess up your order, at least half the time I've gone here they've gotten something wrong, this most recent trip they got my order wrong completely and I couldn't know until I got home and my kids got into their food; wrong meat, didn't put cheese on tacos, burnt chicken, and this is just what happens half the time you go here, the long wait is never worth it. I have also tipped many times just because I'm glad they're open 24 hours and they were the only fast food open during covid, but don't think I'll be going back again, I've had enough with getting home to find out they got nothing right after spending $50 and waiting for 12 mins

So since they have hired new people, I've gone to them about twelve times. Each time that I go, they mess up my order. I order the same simple thing each time. "Chicken taco with cheese. " Simple right? They somehow seem to mess that up each time and give me something different. One time it was fish which I'm allergic too, the other time they put a whole bunch of stuff on it. Or they over charge me. The man at the window with the cross dangle in his ear is so slow and cannot comprehend orders or English because each time he screws it up and doesn't take responsibility. I've recorded it each and everytime because my car has a recording camera thing.. I swear. Each and every time. And when you confront them on it and say that it was wrong, or you overcharged me, he comes back and messes up again! one time he messed up my order four times in a row on the same order. Everyone, please do not go to this one. It's honestly and truly not worth it because the people there, are not customer service friendly. They listen to rap music super loud, you have to scream into the speaker, you have to repeat yourself 7 to 8 times and they still don't get it right, or they don't give you the correct change. it's getting to the point where everyone in town is talking about how bad the customer service is here. Get new people to work for you who actually can understand orders. Like "cheese only" it's really not that hard.

Stick, hair and something else not sure what it is found in taquitos. Taco beef was dried out. Asked for chicken taquitos and received beef.

Big surprise in the desert! Small drive in mexican food hole-in-the-wall, wonderful knowledgeable service, we ordered chilaquellas red, for such a simple dish, I have only found a handful of restaurants in the US that do not disappoint, spot on preparation. Plus a bonus, super clean restrooms!

Favorite Mexican spot in the 29 Palms area. Why? Good question. I think it's because this is the only Mexican spot open when I get to venture out. Positives: 1. The food! Massive burritos! Regular size and street size tacos. My go to meals- California Burrito or (3) Tacos de cabeza and a large Horchata. Generous portions. Well seasoned and cooked. 2. Drive thru! Yess!!! Don't need to get out of my marpat/camouflage uniform. 3. Open 24/7. You got the munchies or tired of MREs and it's 2 am this will hit the spot! 4. If you pay with a card they verify your Photo ID matches the card. Not to many places do that these days. Improvements: 1. A few times I wanted a shrimp burrito. First time- out of shrimp. The other times they shut off the grill. Ugh! Other than that until another Mexican spot is open early morning Castañeda's will continue to be my spot.

The new San Felipe fries are so good . Shrimp , asada , cheese, potatoes and the special sauce . Must try

Ordered carne asada fries and it has tiny pieces of carne asada very little at that felt like I was eating fries with gauc and sour cream only, and the fries are super burnt and oily I had high hopes for this place but never again highly disappointed and not recommend. Service was ok a lot of young kids talking and not really doing well with customer service.

Wasn't very good... i was looking for good Mexican food and it had no flavors... I don't think I'd eat here again

The Corona location is nasty and such a disappointment compared to what I've had in 29 palms on several occasions. I won't return.

This is my horrible $11 carne asada fries. Nice and soggy. Mostly cold. Tacos were cold too by the time I got to eat them. Why? Because I had to spend 30 extra min going back to get my kids food that I paid for and they didn't put in the bag. How hard is it to see your order 5 things and there's only 4 in the bag? Idk. Pretty tough. Then they tell me they won't remake or fix anything expect the food I bring back after I already left. Spent $36 bucks at this place and received $2 service and $1 give a shit from this place.

The food here is always good but they just can't keep staff. My husband ordered menudo but no oregano chili etc that goes with it and when you ask for it no one knows where to find it. But the worst was when I went up to order a side of sourcream. Unbenounced to me, they had just given another customer sour cream.

The food is always great here. I was bummed they stopped serving ground beef, but it is what it is. Amazing super nachos, perfect tacos, really great Chile relleno burritos, and authentic horchata. This place would be perfect if their cashier would wear her damn mask and they'd stop handing food out with grimy disposable gloves. Wash your hands and wear your mask.

I ordered the Shrimp burrito and almost all of the shrimp still had the poop shoot attached. How the hell does anyone thing it's okay to serve shrimp like that. Beyond disgusting I couldn't eat another bite after I noticed. The Rolled Potato Tacos (3) with Sour Cream & Cheese had zero seasoning on the potato. The Sour Cream was fine at least.

Lousy excuse of a restaurant. Food is mediocre at best, meat is greasy and full of gristle. I frequented this place out of convenience in the past, but since it is clear they have lost their minds due to the COVID-19 crisis, perhaps it would be for the best if this greasy spoon of a restaurant flops in the end. Today I forgot to have my mask in my car and have no problem covering my mouth to ease minds in these overblown times. But, today I was in the drive thru after a long wait and after taking my order was asked if I had a mask via the drive thru. I realized I had forgot it, but told them I can cover my face with my shirt. The clerk then proceeded to tell me how they would not serve me because my hands would come into contact my shirt??! Coming from someone with twenty years in emergency and critical care nursing, it is comical that now every drive-thru fast food employee seems to be an expert on emerging and infectious diseases. First off, anyone wearing a face mask is likely touching that mask (god knows how old the mask is) all freaking day, and there is no difference if someone uses a shirt to cover their face versus a mask. Secondly, I have been through this drive thru before and watched their employees not wash or gel their hands between customers and while touching dirty money and then the bags and food they are handing out -- so lets not lecture your loyal customers about how to practice infection control. Their drive thru window is several feet above car level and their employees are also several feet in, plus add the distance that the vehicle has so it is not in contact with the side of the building. I can see if I was hacking up or something, but they could have easily made an effort not to turn away a loyal customer who was doing his best to come up with a reasonable alternative to shield his face once he came up to the window. And here is a piece of friendly advice to the management of Castenedas, don't have your employees wearing gloves that they constantly reuse in touching money and handling food to customer after customer. That is gross. Provide them with hand gel sanitizer to use between customers and teach them some fucking manners. Oh, and by the way, they jacked up all their combo prices by $2 a plate and also have a HUGE PEPSI SIGN out front falsely advertising free 20 oz drinks with purchase of a Combo meal. The $12.50 combo meal includes the price of a drink -- so what's the deal. Obviously, their bottom line is in jeopardy and I personally hope they flop. I won't be back, will stick to Del Taco for mediocre Mexican food.

Why one-star? Simple. Abyssmal response to a simple issue. I went through the drive-thru and picked up dinner for my family. Got home, and a burrito was missing from our order, so I grabbed the receipt and told my kids to go ahead and eat their food, while I went back for the missing item. Back at the restaurant, when I explained the situation to the kid at the front counter, he abruptly asked "Where's the food?" and was told they wouldn't give me my missing $10 burrito because I hadn't returned with the entire order. Sorry, but why should my kids have to eat cold Mexican food because your kitchen messed up? The kid on the counter made no effort at all to make the situation right, and made it very clear it wasn't his problem.

This place has managed to get mine and my husband's order wrong the last 4 times. The third time was several months ago but in the spirit of a new year and starting fresh we tried again. We ordered 2 orders of cheese enchiladas and an order of the potato rolled tacos. We received 2 orders of chicken enchiladas and potato tacos with a piece of beef on top. Maybe some day they'll be more careful where they are putting their meat. Until then, we will no longer be played by this establishment. (Not that anyone cares I'm just a little upset that I have to find something else to eat for dinner)

Food is delicious and have tried a little a bit everything. Today I ordered a burrito bowl that was low carb with asada, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream and added their salsa. Very tasty and they were happy enough to add whatever I wanted to it. The line is a hit or miss and might be faster to go inside and they're open 24 hrs. The only thing I would change is their taco shells for the hard tacos. I personally don't like them, but to each their own.

their shrimp burrito comes defailt SPICY AF! but it was so delicious i will be back here again as soon as i can. if you're nearby please check this place out! its definitely a hole in the wall but well worth it. I love love love their shrimp burrito

I have been eating there for a decade and clearly no body paying attention. There seems to be two crews. One is on point. The Spanish lady and the cook when she is there is spot on. The young girl that cooks there seems to have her own crew of super young guys that work there and they just don't care about a thing. Zero. Anything is better than dealing with those clowns. Sad. How do you screw up a job like that. Lots of places for mexican food in 29 palms.

Never Again! I decided to dip in to the drive-thru on the way home from a long day at work for something "quick" against my better judgement since I vowed never to go to the Castañeda's in Joshua Tree -- they can't EVER get an order right. Well, almost 40 minutes later I finally get to the window and pay for my 4 Carnitas Mini Tacos and 4 Al Pastor Mini Tacos. Let me say that again, 40!! minutes. When the guy hands me my change, the bill goes flying away (this has NEVER happened to me in all my life) -- this is like a bad dream. I get home and think about how this night couldn't get any worse. Well, it did. Just like the Joshua Tree location, they got the order wrong even after repeating it over the speaker. I knew I should've bailed when the lady in the car ahead of me pleaded, "Can you make sure there's cheese in the (chicken wrapped) burrito? They didn't get it last time." Unacceptable. You can't pay me to come back to this restaurant chain.

AVOID!!!!!If you want Mexican food served with a main course of nasty attitude and absolutely no concern for people in general, order it here. Mexican Street Tacos by the bowling alley is much better and the people that work there are much more professional.

Cold fries, unmelted cheese and cold meat...all in all a disappointment. Stopped to eat right after drive thru cuz I was hungry and opened this monstrosity. Felt like it was all pre made and was unsatisfying

Delicious Jamaica juice. I got a delicious serving of super nachos. I was not expecting the steak on top but it was a pleasant surprise. Would recommend.

The lady (blonde) hair needs some customer service skills. Jzzzzz fire her already. She always rude and unpleasant ll I asked for some more salsa, she damm near threw them in my my seat not place in my hands. With no regards what she just did and closed the window. Is asking for extra salsa so bad? U dont like your job, simply quit
