Castanheiro Boutique Hotel

Beautiful hotel in great location.||Located in the very centre of Funchal, in the heart of the historic centre, a fabulous boutique hotel blending design, detailed architectural restoration and a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel is only 5 minutes away from the main shops, museums, restaurants and bars. Our room was stylish and smartly appointed with a small balcony overlooking the front street. We made best use of the excellent hotel facilities such as the rooftop swimming pool where you can enjoy panoramic views overlooking the Bay of Funchal. Availability of sun beds was generally good but inevitably there were some who would reserve beds. | |All of the staff are very friendly and keen to provide good service. The restaurant is high quality. We loved the breakfasts - great variety of items, buffet style, the lunch and dinner menu was excellent - highly recommended. ||Inclusive access to the Spa was a real treat a great place to relax and unwind - we visited most days. ||In summary a delightful hotel where you can always find the perfect spot to relax. Nothing was too much trouble.||Looking forward to returning. ||Tip - Book a guided tour or two and explore this beautiful island. ||- Visit Monte Gardens early morning and avoid the crowds.

A really lovely hotel for our short break to Madeira. The location is excellent - we didn't want full on waterside resort and this was the perfect blend - less than 10 minutes to walk to the marina but shops, cafés, bars and restaurants all along the way. The aircon was excellent and very welcome and they could not have done enough to make you feel welcome. The selection and quality at breakfast was brilliant. The pool on the roof is very small but it's for a dip and relaxing rather than swimming. Recommend!

I had a lovely stay at this fabulous hotel. It ticks all the boxes, very well located, amazing & welcoming Reception staff with in-depth knowledge of the island. |Attractive, stylish room and hotel - immaculate throughout, my room was very quiet.|Breakfast was fabulous, a great selection plus you can order freshly prepared egg dishes or pancakes.|I could not fault this place, I will return - it is a gem....

Perfect location, perfect facilities, perfect people caring for you This hotel is very easily accessible, in the city center (literally) and have a car park 20 metres from the entrance. Starting from our check-in, all staff were nice, helpful and caring for us. They always went the extra mile when we asked any questions or simply help. Their both indoor spa and outdoor pool at the roof cannot be missed. Our room (103) was spacious and had a large balcony. Breakfast was also full of exotic fruits. When I left my mobile charger, wrote them, they immediately located it and sent to my postal address. If they have an availability, go stay there. Not to miss. We had a perfect stay at the hotel! The room was nice, the staff were very friendly and professional. We also enjoyed the breakfast which had a wide variety from what to choose from and you also had the option to order certain breakfast meals from a menu.

We picked this hotel based on the trip advisor reviews. Sadly this wasn’t our experience at this hotel.||||My wife had her AirPods stolen from the room and when we reported it the receptionist laughed at us. This incident was not taken seriously even by the manager. Their attitude was it had never happened before so must not be true. They were suggesting we had lost them elsewhere! I have never experienced anything like this in any hotel I have ever stayed in!||||Positives||Great location for the centre of Funchal and is pretty much in the flatter part of the old town. Rooms were big and very clean. Lots of restaurants, bars and shops all within easy walking distance ||||Negatives||Mosquitos! We only ever got bitten in our room. We had a balcony but were worried to open our doors and let more in! Hotel did provide a plug in but this made little difference.||||Breakfast - Food was fine but never changed the options so became very repetitive!||||Service - There seemed to be two levels of service. If you were on dinner, bed and breakfast you got a much better level of service than we did on bed and breakfast. We experienced multiple episodes of this. Forgotten orders, no interaction or explanation of options at breakfast! ||||Pool - Lovely view and no issues with sunbeds. Pool had missing tiles and was in need of a good clean any tidy up.||||Bar - Happy hour every night except no one went! Maybe due to the poor unfriendly service. First night we ordered a drink and despite being the only couple in there the barman forgot our drinks!||||To sum up the location of the hotel is great and overall the cleanliness is good. With regards to service in the hotel then great if you are dinner bed and breakfast and if nothing goes wrong! Much better options in Madeira.

We had a very nice stay, the customer service once we arrived was phenomenal and the services offered too. All the workers here were extemely respectful and helpful with any questions we brought up. Special thanks to Claudia for the amazing welcome and goodbye and to Luisa too for letting us know about an amazing restaurant for us to eat at on our last day! Would recommend anyone to book a room at this hotel if they're playing to go to Madeira, it's definitely worth it.
