Castanheiro Boutique Hotel

A beautiful hotel right in the middle of the old town, down a quiet street. The location is perfect for exploring Funchal. The staff and the level of service was outstanding. Even though it is a boutique hotel it has every you would need including lovely outdoor pool, a heated indoor pool, a spa, a fabulous restaurant and a bar. Breakfast was a buffet with lots of selection but you could also order freshly cooked items. The restaurant served some amazing food in the evening. The hotel was immaculately maintained. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we really couldn’t fault it.

This was our 8th stay at the Castanheiro and definitely won't be our last! ||All the staff on reception are brilliant. Shout out to Andreia, David, Claudia, Sandra (to mention a few)) are so welcoming and friendly! Very efficient housekeeping staff and the bar staff and breakfast staff are all very friendly and helpful! too. All are indeed a credit to the hotel!||The breakfast options are fantastic! There are plenty of hot and cold buffet items as well as an a la carte menu, i.e. omelettes, pancakes etc. etc. Lovely variations of fresh juices, prosecco, pastries - the list goes on! ||Plenty of sunbeds around the pool.||Location is perfect, very central to Old Town Funchal, but at the same time in a very quiet street.||We cannot fault this hotel!

What an amazing hotel. From the moment we arrived, where we were greeted with a glass of Madeira wine, during and after we checked out, it was a lovely experience. The hotel is located in a perfect location for the old town, where you could access everything Funchal has to offer. We stayed bed and breakfast, which was excellent. Great food choices and freshly cooked eggs to order, lots of hot food choices, cold meat, cheeses, fresh fruit, yoghurts and gorgeous cakes!! You could eat a leisurely breakfast which kept you going until dinner time. Our room overlooked the courtyard was so peaceful. Lovely bed, bathroom where toiletries were provided every day, great housekeeping service, lots of English language channels as well as a small cooking area - if you were so inclined - which we were not!!! There’s the Iris Bar for pre or post dinner drinks, which was lovely as well as a nice courtyard area. Will definitely return to Funchal and will stay here again. We had a wonderful stay at the Castanheiro Boutique Hotel. The location is absolutely brilliant—right in the centre of town with everything within easy reach, yet tucked away just enough to offer peace and quiet. It’s a short, pleasant walk down to the seafront, making it ideal for exploring.|The hotel itself is spotless and beautifully maintained. Our room was spacious with a lovely big bed that made for a very comfortable stay. What really stood out, though, was the staff. From reception to restaurant to housekeeping, everyone was warm, cheerful, and genuinely helpful—nothing was too much trouble.|All in all, a fantastic place to stay. We’d happily return and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, well-located base in Madeira.

A lovely hotel in a great location in the old part of Funchal. The staff were amazing and very helpful. The breakfast was plentiful, eggs cooked to order, hot and cold buffet and pastries, we didn't need lunch! The pool was warm enough to swim in, a spa onsite and the restaurant was open for dinner which was worth the visit. We will definitely return

A brilliant hotel in a great location. Staff were the friendliest and most helpful, they suggested some great trips out , the breakfast was amazing. Parking is available a few minutes away. Lovely rooftop terrace and the restaurant for an evening meal was really good.

Beautiful hotel in quiet location in Funchal Old Town. Rooms excellent. We stayed bed and breakfast and the breakfast was great with lots of choice. We also ate in the restaurant twice and the food and service was excellent.Hotel Bar lovely area to sit in after a day exploring the island. Pool area and Spa also excellent

An elegant extremely comfortable boutique hotel . Rooms were immaculate restaurants great. Superb breakfast and a very high standard of evening meal and barrs. All staff were so helpful pleasant and good to meet.

This is a beautiful hotel in a great location that is central to many top destinations around the historic city of Funchal. I would definitely go back, and my experience was clearly very different than previous reviewers. We stayed at Castanheiro for a week, and were very happy to take advantage of an extremely generous (and free/included with your booking) breakfast that ranged from buffet-style hot and cold options to made-to-order crepes and eggs. The restaurant is great, and so are the two bars on site. The hotel also has nice programs available to guests, including rooftop happy hours and live music multiple days a week. The rooms were modern, clean and had all the amenities we needed for a long term stay. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, as well as helpful getting information, securing taxis, and connecting with the excellent spa on location. All in all, a fantastic hotel for an unforgettable visit.

Ordered a cappuccino at the bar and it was not at all as you would expect. Coffee with whipped cream. Very odd to replace milk foam in such a way. However, nice and easy background music and service was fine besides this misunderstood order.

Rooms are large, but have no charm and have very limited clarity due to small windows (we were on the 1st floor). The hotel is extremely noisy in the morning (water in pipes, elevators,...), so don't expect lazy mornings. Laundry is just a daylight robbery (it costed us 45 € for 10 T-shirts and underwears). Restaurant is good and not too expensive, but clearly "overplaying". The Breakfast is OK. The hot tub is not exactly hot. The only top-spot is the roof-deck. In a nutshell, not completely bad, but clearly disappointing and not up to my expectation.
