Castaway Island, Fiji

First time to Fiji on a 7 night getaway as a family with young kids over Christmas. The place is a stunningly beautiful tropical paradise and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. Huts are kinda basic but functional, with air con and fans. Wifi is very limited, only available in common areas. Use mobile data plans if you don't want to be unplugged. Kids pool was great. Adult only pool was like a bath as was the sea temp. Snorkeling, kayaking, water boarding, inflatable water park, scuba or just swinging in the many hammocks are all available. Food was good, not amazing but we did buffets most of the time. 7 nights was too long for us. 5 would have been perfect for us. Overall we all had an amazing time especially with the kids.

Great family vacation in Castaway Island Resort. Staff were friendly and the views were magnificent. The snorkeling is great around the resort and also in spots 15 minutes away. The folks at the dive shop do a great job arranging the excursions. If you want a great Island experience, come here. Food is good to great without being too fancy. If you have young kids, this is the place to be. We’ll definitely come back here. Vinaka Castaway Island resort !

Castaway Island was amazing — the team were so warm and welcoming, and made our stay feel really personal. From the cultural touches to the genuine hospitality and friendly smiles, everything was unforgettable. Highly recommend to anyone heading to Fiji!

We spent just under one week at Castaway Outrigger Resort Fiji. The island is incredibly beautiful, and upon arrival you are welcomed with traditional singing which instantly makes you feel at home. Everyone walking past welcomes you with a traditional “Bula” which is very heartfelt. The luggage arrived in the room very quickly which was lovely after a long journey. We had a beach Bure and we felt the location was lovely. The staff are what make the experience memorable. Joe, Sam, Vaa, Nate, Elisabeth, Sylvia and Terry went above and beyond to make us all feel welcomed. You can hire a nanny for 9 dollars an hour which seems incredibly reasonable and the nanny’s are all very lovely. The kids club is also good. There are a couple of points I do need to mention though for feedback and for other travellers wanting to visit castaway. We had a good Bure (location) but we paid accordingly at 2500 a night. Unfortunately the Bures are all quite dated and there is no room service, no in room wifi, tv or complimentary water. There is one shop on the island and a bottle of water will put you back nearly 7-9 dollars every time. I feel for the nightly price water should be provided. The restaurant is not cheaper either charging $30 Fiji dollars for a bottle of sparkling water. There are three restaurants (however one wasn’t open) and the other was a pizza bar and a basic buffet. You also have to ensure you book dinner because if you don’t they won’t accommodate you with a table, and if they do you will have to wait quite sometime. The resort is quite dated and some investment is needed. Especially in the pool area. The staff do their best to accommodate, but everything is still paper based so you things can take quite a while. There are free activities at castaway like snorkeling and kayaking, but you can also pay for outer island experiences. These are also very expensive. We had a couple massage on the island. Although the setting was lovely the ladies weren’t very friendly. For the price this was a tad disappointing. Overall it’s a great little island and we will visit again but you do pay accordingly to spend time in paradise.

Castaway Island was amazing and we cannot wait to come back. The staff were beautiful and so welcoming. The food was great and when organising activities the team was always so helpful. We felt like family and we are looking at planning our next trip. We were sad to leave today. Highly recommended 🏝️💞

We stayed 5 days. The resort is wonderful. I'd stayed 25 years ago, and returned with family to find things better than ever. Setting is incredible - you are in the midst of the Mamanuca islands and reef complex and where Survivor is filmed. We were so well taken care of. Bure was super comfortable and private - we had a garden bure but was perfect for us - beaches are just a couple of hundred feet away. Food and setting for meals was wonderful - breakfast buffet at Waters Edge restaurant amazing way to start each day. All our meals were excellent - we enjoyed a meal at 1808 restaurant (asian themed), and had pizzas at the Sundowner. |Our family is pretty active - during our stay we played tennis, kayaked, hiked to the top of the island, hiked around the island, snorkeled, and did 6 scuba dives. The PADI dive facilities are excellent, and two of our family completed PADI advanced open water certification. This required a deep dive, wreck dive, drift dive, navigation dive, and night dive. All great adventures guided by very professional and experienced PADI instructor Craig L. (we coordinated the dive course ahead of time with Iliano V. the Marine and Watersports Manager and had already completed most of the online course prior to arrival on the island).|We travelled to and from Castaway on the South Seas high speed ferry from Port Denarau - great tour of the islands and other resorts as passengers are dropped off and picked up. About an hour and half out and one hour back. We had a lot of luggage but it was completely managed from check in at the Port, to our Bure on Castaway.|I'm retired engineer and our son is studying engineering in college - we had a private tour of the facilities that keep the island running with Paulo (sp) this was amazing - from desalination system for fresh water to power generation, to wastewater management - it was fascinating. |Manager's night was a great experience - held once a week - complimentary drinks (champagne, rum punch, etc) and food and a lovely story of the history of the island told by the hotel manager. Highly recommend to attend if your dates allow.

Returning after 30 years, so much was familiar (thankfully). Utterly relaxed, great staff, and pretty awesome and accessible coral for snorkelling. The island can be circled on foot, aim for the lowering tide so you can get across some of the sections in shallow water. It's a good walk nothing too hard and well worth it. Same for the walk to the top of the hill, a bit of a slog up to great views over the surrounding coral. They actively fog for mossies but..yeah take your favourite pre-scratching spray.

Enjoyable boat trip out/back. Superb buffet lunch served. Good swimming and water activities all ages. Relaxing day. Great staff.
