Castel Hörtenberg (Bolzano, Alps / Dolomites) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Sometimes the word “castle” is open to interpretation, but Castel Hörtenberg means it in the most straightforward way. This Renaissance-era structure played a central role in the Tyrolean Rebellion of 1809; today, in quieter times, it’s been meticulously restored, uncovering centuries of history, and now stands as one of Bolzano’s most luxurious and unique lodgings." - Tablet Hotels

Beautiful property located just a 5-minute walk from the city center of Bolzano. The hotel itself is set in an old castle-like building with plenty of charm and character. Its location is excellent – close to the city but also a great starting point to explore the mountains around Bolzano. The spa area is a real highlight, with various saunas, Turkish baths, and an outdoor pool, making it a perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing. The hotel also offers free electric bike rentals, which is a fantastic perk and highly recommended if you want to discover the surrounding mountains – the scenery is simply stunning. We stayed in two different rooms: one larger room with a sofa, generous space, and coffee facilities (with bar drinks included), and another smaller one. Both were comfortable, though quite different in size and layout. Breakfast was fairly good, with a nice variety of options. The only downside we noticed was the service. While the staff are very friendly and forthcoming, the overall level of professionalism is not quite what you would expect from a five-star hotel. At times the service felt uncoordinated – for example, no one was at the front desk when we arrived, they initially couldn’t find our reservation, and at checkout the billing was handled incorrectly. It often gave us the impression that the hotel is managed by enthusiastic amateurs rather than seasoned professionals. That said, the warmth of the staff and the charm of the property do make up for it, and we still very much enjoyed our stay. With a bit more training and polish in the service, this hotel could easily live up to its five-star setting.

One of our top thee hotels in the world! We stumbled upon Castel Hörtenberg back in 2022 and have been here three times since. The entire castle has been fully and Gorgeously remodeled with no expense spared. Overall vibe is warm, modern and sexy, perfect for couples. The Spa is fantastic with several dry saunas, a steam room, salt room, heated pool (they warm it to about 90F year round). The staff is the real stand out- there is nothing that they won’t do to make sure you have a great stay. Rooms are large, well laid out and have extremely comfortable beds. The location is about a 10 min walk from the train station, a 5 min walk to the Ritten gondola and about an 8 min walk into downtown.

Absolutely stunning place. Beautiful exterior and interior. Large and comfortable rooms. Would highly recommend anyone to stay here for a night. Prices are good considering the luxury and class this place oozes. Very friendly and down to earth staff, good drinks and breakfast options, very good location for walking to the old town and the cable car. Most comfortable bed we've ever stayed in. Thank you again for a very memorable stay.

Great job converting this from a Castel to a hotel. Wonderful rooms and incredible architectural details. Rooms are big and the beds are just the right level of firmness .. slept great! So what wasn’t great? The AC is a hotel wide system so it is ON for everyone or no one. It was warm during the day - hotel reception says “ its too cold for mosquitoes here.. we have none , just leave your windows open…” ahhh yeah you do. and misquotes are bad in the early evening so we got eaten up! Woke up with numerous bites and they left huge welts! ||The restaurant downstairs looks really cool, however the food was at best mediocre. We had eaten breakfast there and it was wonderful and expected the dinner to be good too.. not so much. As a starter I had the steak tartare and was immediately disappointed by this lump of grayish meat that had been worked too much.. like a thick sludge. Very off putting. The butter pasta w. Truffle was overcooked and the risotto was pretty industrial. I’d much rather eat in the city and skip the restaurant..||A bright spot was Tomasco their front desk person who checked us in. Thorough and thoughtful - good job, you kept this review from being lower (you earned a star all your own.)

We recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel, and we can't recommend it enough. Its location is quite good and convenient, making it a great base for any trip. The rooms are beautiful and spotless, always maintained to a high standard of cleanliness. We also thoroughly enjoyed the hotel restaurant; the food and cuisine are superb and definitely worth the price. However, the most memorable aspect of our stay was the exceptional staff. Specifically, the beautiful and delightful Ms Tatjana made us feel incredibly welcome and truly special. She is not just a kind and helpful person, but also a true professional who goes above and beyond. Thanks to her, this hotel felt like a home away from home

The hotel’s restaurant is another highlight. The menu offers a delightful selection of local and international dishes, all prepared with the freshest ingredients. Each meal is a pleasure, beautifully presented and full of flavor. The staff are attentive and professional, always ready to make excellent recommendations and ensure a perfect dining experience. Overall, this castle hotel perfectly combines historic elegance with modern comfort. If you are looking for a memorable stay and exquisite cuisine, I highly recommend this exceptional place

This is a wonderful hotel! The staff is truly exceptional, and the rooms are just as impressive. My wife and I arrived on foot from the train station and were a bit frustrated at first. A tip for future guests: be sure to arrange transportation or transfers ahead of time, since the phone number listed on the website connects to the office, not the hotel itself. That said, the team went above and beyond to make things right, and we ended up thoroughly enjoying both the hotel and the town.

What a classy hotel. Wonderful staff really went out of their way to welcome us at every moment. The bedroom linens and pillows were perfect. Breakfast service and selection were top notch. And the general manager arranged the most birthday cake for one of our friends. Thank you.
