I visited the Sant Ferran Castle in Figueres and it was a truly impressive experience. It’s a massive military fortress, very well preserved, and you can really get a sense of how these defensive structures worked up close. The scale of the place is stunning – from the thick stone walls to the underground tunnels and the huge water cisterns. One of the highlights was a short 4x4 guided tour around the outer moat, which was both fun and informative. You can even walk along the ramparts and enjoy amazing views over the Empordà region. There are original cannons, vast courtyards, and fascinating stories behind every corner. The staff were friendly and passionate about the history of the site. Highly recommended if you're in the area – a great stop for history lovers or anyone curious about military architecture!

A very interesting place to visit, lots to see. Watch the video before you walk around and visit the photographic exhibition. Next time we visit we will book the water cathedral tour in advance as this looks like it would be an amazing experience. There is free parking with no height barrier. Don't visit on Monday's as its closed, but you can walk around the perimeter which is fairly spectacular in itself. Not expensive, only 5€ each. The tours cost more, but are still good value. We are definitely visiting again.

This castle visit costs €6pp. It is an empty site of historical buildings only. Few exhibition to see. Most buildings are occupied with no entrance for tour.

Really good visit. We took the boat trip in the cistern with my children. Guillem was our guide and was excellent. Very informative and fun and the children really enjoyed it. The rest of the Castle is very good and easy to tour whilst also informative and impressive.

That’s definitely one of the most underestimated landmarks I’ve ever been to. It’s the largest military facility / fortress in Europe. For sure the Dalí museum is the heart of Figueres but this place is fantastic. It’s only 20 mins on foot from the museum. There is a parking available. You can find so many interesting spots like the fortress walls, living pavilions, some ruins, amazing underground tunnels and buildings (stables). It’s breathtaking. Also there is an indescribable view of the mountains and the valley. It costs just 5 euros per person. There are lots of events you may be interested in. Just check their website. One of the reason I will come back is that there is an underground water supply with 9 million litres of pure water. It’s a must to explore. You can take a self guided tour through the castle with a detailed enough map.

We were in Figueres for the Dalí Museum and stopped by the Sant Ferran Fortress as well. We’re so glad we did- it was a really impressive structure with some interesting history. We did a tour with Pep who was fantastic and kept us engaged the whole time. The tour is DEFINITELY worth it to know what you’re seeing, and we were even in for a surprise because we got to see below the fortress in a way we didn’t expect. Thank you!

Great parking, even for motorhomes. Easy access. Fortress is absolutely amazing. The size of it is astounding. Not enough info in the handout but tours are available. Highly recommend a visit.

We loved this historical castle and fort. This was a visit well explained on their free brochure. I recommend buying tickets in advànce if you want to do the jeep tour or the boat tours - we didn’t know that this was an option for sightseeing as we only decided to go to the castle on the same day we went.
