Hotel Castell d'Emporda (Catalonia, Spain) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Travelers in search of a bit of that old-fashioned Spanish castle magic are unlikely to be disappointed by Castell d’Empordà, a very thorough reconstruction of a long-abandoned medieval castle in the mountains just outside of Girona. What does come as some surprise is how much red meat there is for fans of contemporary architecture. For while the medieval construction provides the skeleton of the place — as well as the greater portion of the character of the main building’s rooms — the owners haven’t been shy about introducing modern elements, from the furnishings in the castle’s bedrooms to the stunning parasol-like design of the restaurant’s rust-colored roof." - Tablet Hotels

Attended a wedding at the venue. We had a room in the castle, which was lovely and spacious. The food (welcome dinner and wedding) was nice with good vegetarian options - though it was generally underseasoned. The surrounding area is lovely and the venue itself is perfect.

We were married at Castell d’Emporda this June and had an incredible experience. The staff was so accommodating to a group of Americans who traveled for the occasion. We truly felt they were all individually and personally invested in every detail to make our big day a success. Thank you to Christopher, Leo, Sandra, Mano and the entire team. We had a wonderful time.

We recently had our wedding at Emporda and couldn’t recommend the venue enough. Teresa, Sandra & Jacky were fabulous in the lead up to the wedding and Teresa was fantastic on the day, making sure I was calm and everything ran to plan. Photos do not to do this venue justice, it’s simply stunning and the food is out of this world. Having stayed at the venue a few times the staff are fantastic, the hotel is clean and overall just a wonderful place. We can’t wait to return for our wedding anniversary. The Browns

There is no explicit room service like other hotels. But that isn't a negative it means you get to enjoy your time.

Yelp
I visited the Castell d'Empordà for a wedding, and did not spend the night... so my review is not based upon residence there. We were greeted warmly at the reception desk - they pegged us as Americans right away (well, my wife, anyway :-) and spoke in flawless English. As my wife had a part in the wedding, the desk had someone whisk her to the wedding planner right away - giving me a chance to scope out the amenities, and to find the outdoor bar. It was still pretty early as far as Spanish weddings go (the sun was still up, although getting low in the sky), on an unseasonably warm day - temps in the mid 90's. The outdoor bar area had rattan shades available along the rail, and umbrellas for the rest. The glassed-in area had a VERY powerful AC going, for those that chose to sit indoors. The menus changed somewhere between 6 - 7 pm, from bar food to a proper carte. The prices also jumped significantly, but well within normal limits - €35 for a four course meal. Very well done! I think I'd like to revisit this place - (perhaps for our anniversary?) - to really get a feel for it. If their desk and wait staff are any indication, though, I'll likely kick this review up to five stars. ¡Buen provecho!

Yelp
This castle is old, very old, but the hotel has all the modern conveniences you could possibly wish for. There's even a world's largest scale model of the Battle of Waterloo upstairs. The surrounding Catalonian farmland provides a lovely backdrop. It's an ideal spot for bikers given its proximity to numerous trails as well as the Costa Brava.
