Hotel Castell d'Emporda (Catalonia, Spain) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Travelers in search of a bit of that old-fashioned Spanish castle magic are unlikely to be disappointed by Castell d’Empordà, a very thorough reconstruction of a long-abandoned medieval castle in the mountains just outside of Girona. What does come as some surprise is how much red meat there is for fans of contemporary architecture. For while the medieval construction provides the skeleton of the place — as well as the greater portion of the character of the main building’s rooms — the owners haven’t been shy about introducing modern elements, from the furnishings in the castle’s bedrooms to the stunning parasol-like design of the restaurant’s rust-colored roof." - Tablet Hotels

We got married here in September, and this stunning place truly exceeded all our expectations. It was an unforgettable wedding, and everything started with the amazing organization. We want to sincerely thank the entire team: from the reception staff to Sandra and her event planning team, and Jackie, who guided us throughout the year-long journey of building our wedding plan. From the very beginning, we always felt supported and welcomed. Every single question or doubt we had was promptly answered, and on the wedding day itself, everything was handled with absolute perfection. The rooms comfortably hosted all of our guests, and the organization around accommodations was impeccable. The cleanliness, the details, and the overall care made the stay exceptional. And we cannot forget to mention the food, everything was absolutely delicious, and it was truly worth it. This place is simply wonderful. We couldn’t have asked for a better setting for our wedding, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone considering a venue for their special day.

We got married in Castell D'Emporda April 21st 2025. We had the best few days with our closest friends & family. I initially started discussing and planning our dream day with Jacky and she couldn't have been more helpful. We opted for a 3 day event as we had lots of people traveling from Ireland & around the world so we wanted to make it worth while for all our guests. The venue is absolutely stunning! The grounds, the rooms, the food was just incredible. We welcomed people to the venue the first afternoon where we chilled at the pool and had drinks and had some lunch. The food was amazing but service at lunch time was very slow but people weren't in a rush anywhere so it wasn't the end of the world. We started off with a bbq night that evening with live Spanish music from a local guitar group which were amazing. The food was excellent as were the drinks. Again the bar found it difficult to cope with the amount of people ordering drinks but other than that everything was perfect. The wedding day was very chill and relaxed. We all enjoyed the buffet breakfast and then got ready. We chose to do most of our photos before the ceremony so we could spend lots of time with our guests which I highly recommend. Sandra & Teresa were extremely efficient and helpful. They put out any decorations we had and set up our bathroom baskets daily and coordinated everything to a tea. We had our ceremony out in the Olive Garden. We used Stereo star band for music and Costa Brava DJs for sound and they were amazing! We enjoyed a gorgeous cocktail reception after and the canapés were Devine. We then sat down for dinner. All our guests are still talking about the food and wine. We headed downstairs to La Cova for dancing and drinks. It is a perfect set up with a gorgeous room off the side of the dance floor for people to chat and mingle. Our third day was fabulous. We spent the day chilling by the pool enjoying endless cocktails & tapas followed by a Paella party & karaoke that night. The staff were amazing and couldn't have done enough for us. I cannot recommend the venue enough. We had a wedding of 150 guests and we booked out the entire venue which was just perfect. We were the only people on the grounds for the 3 days. Chris was extremely helpful sorting out all the rooms for the guests and amazing communication on the lead up and even phone calls to go through everything. Honestly we had the wedding of our dreams. If you are looking for a destination wedding I cannot recommend Castell D'emproda enough. Thank you Jacky, Chris, Sandra, Teresa, Johan and all the bar staff for making our wedding unforgettable.

The hotel is in an amazing location, beautiful area and buildings. The staff was really nice, very polite and helpful, but it felt like there was not enough staff at some points (for example during lunch time). The room was quite a disappointment: we were in the Dali rooms and we had a life sized photo of Dali and 2 more people right next to the bed, in a way that you felt observed when lying in bed and could not ignore while in the room. Really unconfortable to have an enormous picture of a known fascist and animal and women abuser in the room, this was not mentioned during the booking, we would have definitively declined being in such a bedroom. The bathroom was very humid and the towels did not dry from one day to the next. We were there 3 nights and there was no housekeeping of the room, which was a surprise given the price of the room. The quality of the food and beverages was good, but the prices were incledibly high for the area where the hotel is located and did not mach with the service provided. We had a great time in our loveliy friends´wedding celebration, but would not recommend this to other friends.

I’d like to start by saying that the girl at the reception was incredibly sweet and helpful. Unfortunately, that’s about the only positive thing I can say about our stay. The venue is adorable once decorated but if you’re gonna stay at the hotel better know that the room itself was disappointing—there were dead bugs on the ceiling, spider webs in the corners, and an overall sense that it hadn’t been properly cleaned. There was no coffee machine in the room, and despite the price we paid, you’re expected to purchase overpriced coffee once breakfast buffet hours are over. Speaking of breakfast, if you ask the staff for assistance, you’re more likely to get an eye roll than actual help. The beds were uncomfortable, and to make matters worse, the entire area had an unpleasant smell. Overall, it was not a place I would recommend.

Attended a wedding at the venue. We had a room in the castle, which was lovely and spacious. The food (welcome dinner and wedding) was nice with good vegetarian options - though it was generally underseasoned. The surrounding area is lovely and the venue itself is perfect.

We were married at Castell d’Emporda this June and had an incredible experience. The staff was so accommodating to a group of Americans who traveled for the occasion. We truly felt they were all individually and personally invested in every detail to make our big day a success. Thank you to Christopher, Leo, Sandra, Mano and the entire team. We had a wonderful time.

This is a bizarre hotel and certainly not what we expected.||The pros - the setting is stunning and the staff were great. Lots of young local kids working there who had clearly been trained well. Very polite and enthusiastic. ||The cons - it feels simply like a tourist factory. It’s far bigger and ‘mass catering’ than we had expected (we found it through Mr & Mrs smith which tends to lean towards luxury intimate hotels so we’re surprised it made it through selection). The food in the restaurant, while not awful, felt like it was mass produced on a grand scale and had a bit of a canteen feel to it. The pool areas are very scruffy - it doesn’t look like they tidy up other people’s towels regularly and there was also a bizarre Ibiza beach party one night while we were there which felt extremely contrived and while we didn’t mind, I’m sure there were plenty of people who would be turned off by the groups of young people congregating round the pool smoking and drinking. ||The rooms are fine - great shower - but we had an unfortunate case of having blood stained pillows. We told reception but were a little disappointed that we weren’t offered any kind of apology or compensation. We didn’t have breakfast included so it would have been a nice touch if they had given us at least one person free. ||For 2 nights it cost us €980 which is an extraordinary amount of money for what it is. I appreciate its height of summer but it certainly didn’t feel like good value for money. ||It’s not a bad hotel by any means, it’s just very odd and needs to smarten up a bit for the prices charged.
