Aragonese Castle

Best Castle experience as I recommend you take the elevator all the way up to the top floor and walk down and it’s very cool cause they give a description on their handout in English and Italian of all the different sites you’re gonna see along the way. It’s only €10 which is very reasonably priced. The castle itself is majestic, and the views are incredible. Once you get into the elevator go all the way to the top floor you will know what I’m talking about. You could also see from the pictures that it’s worth a look for yourself. I recommend this is one of the standard things you do on this island. Plus the neighborhood around it is very cool. I recommend walking there through the work afterwards to walk down the main shopping and a restaurant street which is pedestrian only you’ll definitely like it there. The castle itself you could spend as much time as you want. There’s no one forcing you. to leave. Highly recommend going here when you’re on the island as everyone expects to see pictures from this place if you came to the island like this. The interesting thing about the castle is that it’s been owned by a private family since the early 1900s as the government sold it to them, which is not typical mostly properties like this are owned by a trust or the state I did some research into this, and I found that these properties are paying taxes and they serve very great community purpose.

Even though Castello Aragonese was closed when we visited, just being around it was already an unforgettable experience. It’s pure magic. The way it rises from the sea, connected by that long stone bridge, feels almost surreal — like stepping into a painting. The light, the colors, the reflection on the water… everything looks cinematic and timeless. Even without going inside, walking around the area and admiring it from different angles was absolutely worth it. It’s one of those places that makes you stop, breathe, and just take it all in. If you’re in Ischia, don’t skip it. Even from the outside, it’s simply breathtaking.

Great place for anyone interested in history. The climb is not easy, but worth once you are at the top. They did lock some areas behind doors, but there are still enough individual areas to see.

Absolutely gorgeous! We booked for Apertif. Walked around the castle afterwards on our way to dinner. The castle has rooms you can stay in, a restaurant, and a cocktail lounge. You must book via email on their website. Amazing place!

A really interesting place to visit. So much history that will really move you. Beautiful setting and in an area with so many restaurants and small shops. A really good day spent with a fantastic guide Paulo di Palma who is highly recommended

So beautiful castle surrounded by the sea and linked to the island through a bridge. We spent there almost 1 day because we were fascinated by the incredible views from above

Do not miss going to this castle on your trip to the island It is not a tourist trap , it is absolutely breathtaking and a beautiful way to spend an afternoon! They sell the last tickets at 4:30 in the afternoon and you could take in sunset from the glorious view point !

Ok... the comments about being in shape to tackle this place especially when it's hot are not overexagerated! I would not bring little kids or anyone that can't handle a bit of a trek. However there are bathrooms and cafés at the midpoint and top. Prices are really fair so don't hesitate to stop for a beverage and enjoy the terrace views. It's an incredible and massive structure with a really long history. It also has a some amazing views so for us it was more than worth it. Warning... the Ischia bus system is amazing BUT if you bus it to the Castle, Bus 7 has no air conditioning and is packed full. Also the bus stop is right across from the taxis just before the causeway to the castle. It's not marked so it's a bit confusing where to wait for the bus.

Amazing castle! Took me all day to tour. The elevator takes you to the tallest first floor you'd ever imagine! There are two cafes up at the top, both presenting you with different coastal views. There are a few gardens; yes including a vineyard. At the time of my visit, a sculpture artist's work was on display. I'm in like with it... maybe almost love. Just the location is perfect, because the sun rises appearingly next to this castle! Way too awesome! The castle is romantic for sure. They have special events! Yeah so if you wanna get married here, you can... HINT HINT :P Make yourself knowledgeable if you want to - read up on its history. But today, in the modern age you can go sightseeing for 10€. Bring your wonders, walking shoes, sunglasses and cameras!

Aragonese Castle is a medieval castle next to Ischia. The castle was built in 474 BC. and today the castle is the most visited monument of the island. I got into the castle by myself because my cousin who leaves in Italy was already tired from taking me around but I still have a lot of energy to explore more, lol. It was very impressive old building how the old day build such a huge and beautiful place.

Very impressive site to visit. Plan to spend 2-3 hours to try and cover most of it. Some of the best views on Ischia. Be prepared for a maze like walk through the stairs and pathways. The brochure they give you at the entrance will give you a general location for various sites, but not a detailed map. Make sure you visit the arms and torture display.

My wife and the kids said I shouldn't even give this 2 stars but the views and the notion of what this place is gives it, in my book, that extra bump. Come on - the place is about 2500 years old! How many places in the entire world can you go to that are that old? And it's so damn cool from the outside - all perched on this mount which is separated from the rest of the island but then you get inside .... and now the rest of the story. It's not really the old pre-dark ages castle that you'd like the believe. There's a hotel in there and a restaurant and a good portion of the rooms you can see are so refurbished that it really looks like a movie set of an old castle rather than actually being an old castle. Yes - the scenes from the various lookout points were awesome but to me that's where it ends. The tour book you get when you pay your entry fee is anemic at best, the directions to walk from one site to the next are very difficult to follow and poorly marked so you get lost rather easily. As I said before - the NOTION of what this place could be far exceeds what it actually is. Showing pictures of what films were produced here and having art exhibitions, to this humble guy, seems to detract from the fact that this is a super old castle with a very cool history .... so why wouldn't you want to play that up and forget this other mishegas? In being fully fair - it was CRAYCRAY hot on the day we visited and the kinder were grumpy and k'vetching a lot so that took away from the experience.
