Castello di Gargonza, Near Monte San Savino, Tuscany, Italy - Explore & Book

"Who can beat staying in a castle for setting the imagination alight? This tiny 13th-century walled village (borgo) has a Sleeping Beauty ambiance, perched high on a hill above thick Tuscan forest where wild boar and antelopes roam. Surrounded by 500 acres of protected land, it was given as a dowry to the owner's acestors. Now a hotel and collection of apartments, its medieval and Renaissance buildings are clustered around the main house, which the family still uses in summer. It’s a place of such charm that guests tend to find themselves mingling with day-trippers as they wander the narrow lanes. But by night, when the smattering of non-residents has gone, you’ll have the star- and lamp-lit village to yourself. It’s great for families, with an array of rooms and spacious suites sleeping 2-5. However, it’d also suit couples, with enough space to guarantee peace and quiet, and a splendid restaurant just outside the walls. Highs A unique tiny hamlet of houses all with beautiful original features - full of character, history and atmosphere Accommodation to suit everyone: intimate rooms, triple/quadruple rooms, 1&2-bedroom suites An excellent on-site restaurant (open daily) serving delicious lunches and dinners, plus a choice of self-catering options It feels like a remote, get-away-from-it-all retreat, yet you're within an easy drive of Arezzo, Florence and the Chianti vineyards Set outside the walls and surrounded by fragrant flowers, the unheated pool has great views across the Tuscan countryside Lows Interiors are comfortable but old-fashioned; if you’re looking for 5-star style, this isn't the place for you The village streets are uneven, have lots of steps and are sometimes slippery - difficult for small children and guests with limited mobility No TVs or modern tech in the rooms, but there's WiFi throughout You’ll need a car for day trips and meals at other restaurants A strict cancellation policy and minimum stay" - Abigail Blasi

We originally booked a single night here on our holiday home hunting trip and ended up staying 5 nights. ||I’ll start with the staff, who were warmly and efficiently helpful and accommodating. The owner, who is a multi-generational owner is wonderful and pretty much always on site and can always be seen working alongside staff, whether at the exceptional on-site restaurant or in the on site bar or at reception. (If you can — ask about the history of the Castillo and his family — adds even more to the special air about your stay). ||It’s within reasonable driving distance of other towns and easy to navigate to (note typical mountain narrow lanes and switch backs, but all paved and easy to drive on). Breakfast is included, and lunch and dinner are available on -site. ||The rooms have a kettle and a small mini-bar. ||Can’t recommend this highly enough. ||We will be back.

What a stunning place. A story book facility. The staff was so very helpful and went out of their way to make everything perfect for their quests. We visited for a wedding and it was absolutely perfect !

It's a beautiful location. Peaceful. The welcome from the proprietor Neri and his family was perfect. One of my favorite places to visit in the world.

Stayed there years ago and it was one of the highlights of our visit to Tuscany. Wonderful service and food, period/era rooms but very comfortable, and lovely views from the beautiful lawn-surrounded pool.

My daughter and I stayed at this lovely castle last October. We had a wonderful time and the food was delicious! We also enjoyed day trips from the castle to Sienna and Pienza. We highly recommend Castello di Gargonza for your stay in the wonder of Italy!

A truly unique and wonderful experience at this amazing property, a 13th century fortified medieval village. Truly gracious and warm hospitality with unique and comfortable rooms throughout the property. The complimentary breakfast is excellent and served in a beautiful breakfast room. The swimming pool is set in a beautiful setting with views of the surrounding area. The restaurant La Torre di Gargonza serves delicious food with good service. |We highly recommend a stay in this magical village!

Yelp
We stayed 3 days here but I wish it was longer. First off, if you like it very quiet this IS your place. The buildings are very old, the walls thick- there isn't a sound at night at all - none! The staff is excellent and they are helpful in every way. The restaurant is outstanding with prices that are reasonable given the high quality. Add to that the history of the facility is just incredible. We hiked some of the trails - if you do that hiking boots are recommended. Trails are rough and at times steep. Things to do - We spent a day in Tuscany exploring numerous vineyards that are close by. We also spent a day exploring several villages, an underground wine cellar, enjoyed great wine and bought some excellent cheese. One caveat: you'll need to climb stairs and somewhat steep walkways if your going to stay here. Your legs will thank you afterwards. I'd highly recommend this place! It's just plain awesome! We loved it.
