If You Are Traveling to Rome, Here Are the 9 Wineries You Have to Visit

"Perched at roughly 1,200 feet in the hamlet of Semivicoli, a restored 17th–18th-century castle has been transformed into a luxury resort and cultural hub that combines sports and nature experiences with art and gastronomy. The property hosts an agricultural museum and a rotating contemporary art program, stages pop-up cultural projects, and offers a guest-only restaurant currently run by chef Mario Di Giovanni; the pool provides direct views of the Maiella peak and the site is celebrated for exceptionally starry skies. The estate’s roughly 20 acres of vineyards produce two whites (Trebbiano and Pecorino) and a red blending Montepulciano with Merlot and Cabernet; the Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Superiore labeled “Villa Gemma” is cherry-red from a 12-hour maceration, savory and complex, and suited both to casual sipping and dinner." - Federico De Cesare Viola

Wow, so nice place. Staff was great especially the guy that takes care of the garden - a real hero, got a tour and story of the castle and garden that I will never forget. What makes it a 4/5 is the chef - dinner was not that good I’m sorry to say. Everything else 5/5! Magic place!

Where do I even begin? Castella Di Semivicoli is one of those dream accommodations that somehow manages to be even better in real life. From the stunning grounds to the beautifully designed rooms and incredible food, every detail is pure perfection. And speaking of the food breakfast each morning was unforgettable. It’s something I’ll be thinking about for a long time. A special shoutout to Pietro, who was truly one of the highlights of our stay. His thoughtful recommendations, warm conversations, and genuine hospitality made us feel like part of the family. I would highly recommend if you ever find yourself visiting Abruzzo!

Beautiful place to visit. Highly recommend. Excellent staff and lovely rooms. Bathrooms are in the rooms with translucent glass so best for couples or close friends!

Beautiful location! Attended a wedding here. Unfortunately we experienced Below average service, very defensive staff, rooms are sub par, and the hotel manager is rude. The restaurant is only open if you book in advance, so you cannot choose last minute. The wines are well priced but there is not much to do around the area. Do not recommend.

The pictures of this place do not do it justice. What an incredible stay! You feel like you are back in time…the history of this place is so prevalent when staying here. They have done a very good job of refurbishing it with modern amenities while still staying true to the building’s character. The pool is refreshing. The views breathtaking. And the breakfast delightful! We had dinner and it was very good, too! The one suggestion is allowing for a dinner outside. But overall, a very impressive stay!

Our stay here was amazing! The staff was so kind and helpful, the castle itself was beautiful, the dinner restaurant was so yummy and convenient, and the breakfast was charming and adequate. We also partook of a wine tasting on site that was super special and tasty! The pool area is also lovely. The location is slightly inconvenient, but the hotel was able to help us arrange a car to get to nearest train station (Pescara). There is little do to in the area around the castle, so plan on just chilling on site! Staff went above and beyond! Thanks again!

Fantastic and beautiful castle with 360 views of the mountains, Gran Sasso and surrounding Abruzzo region. A 15-20 min drive to the beaches, half hour or so to Cheiti, or short day trip if you want to explore the mountains around. The grounds are beautiful, the pool refreshing and the staff is fantastic. The rooms are quaint and unique--not your usual run-of-the-mill hotel!! A great spot for creatives to gather fodder for a novel or a painting! My favourite feature were the whimsical, gold-painted flora and fauna found in random spots around the castle. Oh,and of course....the wine!!!

Located in the vineyards, this castle was completely renovated up to current standards. We stayed in a standard room, everything was very nice and clean. The bathroom was a bit small, some spots of mold on the wall (the room could get a bit damp after showering), but it was clean and had everything we needed. Great beds. Window had a view over the vineyard. Good breakfast. Very friendly staff, great wines. We had dinner at the restaurant, it was very good and reasonably priced. The pool was great, enough sunbeds and there was a pool bar (but we did not use it). Nice terrace where we drank a glass of wine. Would definetely come back!
