I was looking for a quiet, restful getaway and we got exactly this at Castello Di Velona. The location is rural and overlooked a gorgeous view of Tuscany on all sides. The thermal pools were magical, staff extremely attentive, and food delicious. Although we did not use it, there was a gym on site. I was able to go on runs early in the morning by myself and felt very safe. We booked a wine tasting at the resort that included a tour of the vineyards- Alessandro was extremely knowledgeable and we had a lot of fun! Already looking forward to our next trip back.

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful location for our honeymoon this week! The service was outstanding, the staff was so kind and attentive, and the amenities were first class. The thermal pool was wonderful. The executive chef and sommelier were extremely knowledgeable and friendly! We did a wine tasting and were very pleased! We will definitely be coming here again.

A Culinary Experience We’ll Never Forget||||We had the absolute pleasure of dining with Chef Andrea Fanti during our stay, and his food was truly exceptional. Every dish reflected refined technique, creativity, and a deep passion for quality ingredients. One of the standouts was the potato ravioli topped with fresh truffle — genuinely one of the best dishes I’ve ever had in my life. The flavors were rich yet perfectly balanced, and the presentation was beautiful.||||What made the experience even more unforgettable was Chef Andrea Fanti’s subtle Indian-inspired twist in the first dish adding a unique layer of flavor that elevated the meal in such an elegant way. It’s rare to find a chef who can blend influences from different cuisines with such harmony and sophistication.||||Beyond the incredible food, Chef Andrea Fanti’s warm personality, attention to detail, and pride in his craft made every dining experience feel personal and special. We truly looked forward to each meal!||||If you have the chance to dine here, don’t miss it a remarkable culinary highlight of our trip and one we will be talking about for years.

Gorgeous views and wonderful service! We had the most amazing dinners with live music. The wine tasting was held in a private room with wonderful wine made in their vineyard. The water in the pool is so nice and warm as it comes from the springs! Don't miss out on the spa! I received the best massage with a view of the Tuscany countryside, which is so incredible we had to upgrade to the room with a view to match!

Me and my wife stayed there for our honeymoon. We had an exceptional time. The service was exceptional. The pools and amenities were very nice. Great breakfast. Located close to montelcino and many great wineries. Specifically, we really enjoyed the wine tasting. The entire staff were great but here are some standouts , We were helped by Kristian who made us feel extremely welcomed and Morris who performed our wine tasting and he was wonderful. Strong recommendation, great value.

Google
Amazing views from every angle. The few interactions with the staff were friendly. However couldn’t get help for the spa or pool area. One would think since it’s not crowded property the staff should be ready at the drop of a hat. Food was overly expensive probably because there’s nothing else unless you drive to town. Rooms look nice with beautiful travertine but little details need attention such as some lights not working. Poor bourbon selection. When asking about local activities (such as hiking) it’s almost as if they aren’t prepared to answer questions unless it’s about wine or wine. Be prepared to take lots of stairs to get to the rooms. Property is truly beautiful and I would give them another chance if I return to Montalcino. Hopefully they make some adjustments to justify the high prices and earn the luxury status.

My wife and I keep returning to this beautiful UNESCO property. ||It is uniquely perched on top of a hill overlooking the gorgeous UNESCO views of Tuscany and their vineyards. ||There is a pool, spa and spa treatment center and two restaurants on the property. |The food in the terrace restaurant, mostly traditional Tuscan, is exceptional as is the service. A large breakfast buffet is offered daily on the terrace as well. Their omelets are exceptional. The other restaurant offers seafood and on bad weather days, rather than outside, food is served in an elegant restaurant near the main lobby. Again, the food and service is exceptional. ||Days consist of chilling at the pool and spa or taking trips to some of the excellent local Brunello wineries for tastings. CDV also produces Brunello and delicious Tuscan olive oil which we have been purchasing for years. ||The entire staff and management works hard to please and accommodate your requests. ||We will, as in the past, plan to return.

Hi there, I recently visited the Spa and had an amazing experience massage with Alessandro and Gloria. ||These two clearly have dedicated themselves to their craft and it shows during the session. ||I felt/feel at peace and wish to travel all the way back to receive another one. ||Highly recommend the Soul Contactor massage- Its not on the menu, but it is incredible

Yelp
This location is absolutely fabulous. Our rooms were great, views were fantastic, staff was very accommodating, spa services were so relaxing and we took a private cooking class from Dominnico which was such an amazing experience - absolutely loved him and will be definitely trying to recreate what we learned hands on in his kitchen.

Yelp
FRONT DESK: *Rude - it literally ruined my entire experience at this resort. Front staff was pretentious and made it seem like I would need to give them my first born dare I ask for anything. The female staff member that checked us in could've used some etiquette coaching. ROOM: *Room was clean but the bed wasn't that comfortable, soft and lumpy. There is a mini bar and they provided some welcome snacks that were terrible. POOL: *Indoor and outdoor pool area with both indoor and outdoor lounge seating. Service was negligible. We waited 40 minutes for 2 drinks that cost $48. The Aperol Spritz was brought in a dirty goblet glass with a stiletto stem that was very unstable, I was concerned it was going to til over and break. OLISPA: *Bathroom was flooded with water so that was incredibly gross and there wasn't a sense of urgency to resolve it. They offer the typical sensory experiences with a Jacuzzi, sauna, emotional showers, ice fountain and relaxation room. Nothing too exciting - opted not to get a spa treatment - just due to the lack of service we experience during our entire stay. FOOD: *We had the breakfast buffet which was included in our stay and this was the best breakfast we had in Italy due to the elaborate variety of foods they offered. They had sweets, pastries, breads, cereals, granola, eggs, meats, cheese, smoked salmon, sliced to order cured meats, fruit, fresh juices and purees and prosecco. Also the setting where you ate was very pretty from all the natural light. This was fully self-service so we never had anyone wait on us. PARKING: *There was a large lot at the bottom of the castle so it was nice to be able to come and go. PROS: 1. The panoramic view from the pool deck to see the rolling green hills of Tuscany. 2. Breakfast buffet. CONS: 1. Service at check-in. 2. Service at the pool. 3. Service at the spa. 4. Service at breakfast. 5. Service at check-out. No I definitely won't be back.

Yelp
Castillo Di Velona AKA the dreamiest most perfect honeymoon experience I could ever have dreamt of having. This groundbreaking location made my husband and i's honeymoon experience something we will never forget. First of all: this castle... is go die for. It's on the tippy top of a mountain in wine country. It's small and not extremely packed or touristy (so we considered it our GEM) the treatment of the staff was absolutely wonderful Francesco (in charge of pool snd spa) was the best, the thermal spa: sweet lord, that warm natural pool with the VIEW. They have a downstairs spa which is free-- absolutely groundbreaking. The rooms were huge! You feel like the castle is to yourself, to die for! With THE VIEW! Food was so amazing you don't have to drive anywhere. To end this especially long review. The owner of this majestic place hosted our wine tasting experience... yes the owner because it was our honeymoon. We left purchasing a wonderful 2010 vintage. I cannot stress how much I enjoyed my experience here. I enjoyed every single second. It was worth Every. Single. Penny. (it was the greatest two days of my life)

Yelp
There's something regal about staying in a castle. We loved our two night stay at Castello di Velona. The rooms were spacious, views were amazing, beds were comfortable and staff were very friendly. We dined at the bar restaurant our first night and the food was great. I also had a massage session in the spa which was very relaxing (wish it lasted longer!). The hubby and baby also enjoyed a swim in both the indoor and outdoor pool which they loved. Lastly, the complimentary breakfast that's served has lots of great options. They even have a small table with purely gluten free pastries and cookies. Look out for the custard filled donut holes- amazing!!

Yelp
This part or Tuscany is great. Highly recommend. The castle and small town is a special place. Easy access to major roads. Nice accommodations.

Yelp
Excellence in most every way. Location on a Tuscan hill. Super staff. Phenomenal restaurant. Great pools. The only downside is sketchy wifi and cell reception in the room.

Penny L.

Yelp
Perfect, amazing view from the sunset rooms. Pool and spa were wonderful. Go elsewhere for food. Get wine and bring back to hotel as wine there is very pricey, but good.

Yelp
I got married in June 2016 in Italy and after the wedding 35 of our guests joined me and my wife at Castello di Velona for a few days of touring in Tuscany. The weather was perfect and I loved the outdoor pool which is fed by natural hot springs. The staff was excellent and the rooms were luxurious. I stayed in room #1 and it had a large separate sitting area. Some of the rooms have an outdoor patios so make sure you ask about the room configurations. This hotel is in my top 5 hotels in all the world. This is a great place to use as a luxury base camp to visit Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Siena. The mattress was comfortable and perfect for U.S. travelers that hate thin European mattresses which are commonly in E.U. hotels.

Yelp
After a long honeymoon where we hit just about every major region of Italy, we came to Castello Di Velona. I will break this into two parts and will ONLY truly review the hotel: the hotel is in an old 11th century castle that has been restored and is incredibly beautiful. It blew away every place we went. Our room was a gem (we were in the castle part) and we arrived to wine and fruit because of our wedding. The Spa was recently redone and was an absolute joy. SO relaxing. Staff in hotel was wonderful. the ONLY part we can honestly say we didn't enjoy was the restaurant. We felt like we were judged for not ordering a $200 bottle of wine. It's not that we cant, we just didn't want to. I ordered a fish that was not good at all and nobody was apologetic about it. I'm not expecting it for free, but I didn't appreciate the attitude from the manager when I said it just wasn't for me. Maybe that's how it is there, but I was super disappointed.

Yelp
This hotel was disappointing. The good: the pools are great and the views are unbeatable. The bad: the service is the worst. We repeatedly ordered drinks by the pool that never arrived. One time I asked someone for a towel by the pool and they told me I needed to ask a different employee, but that person wasn't there, so I was unable to get a towel (this happened to severely guests until my husband had to go to the front desk to get it straightened out). The restaurant was GROSS (smoked salmon and guacamole amuse bouche -- in the hills in of Tuscany?) and cost literally four times more than any other meal (most of which were delicious) that we had in Tuscany. They also pressured us and everyone else in the restaurant (all 4 tables) into ordering their own Brunello, which is mediocre compared to others. Th aspect of their service that is the worst is that so many of their employees would cut me off in the hallways. Isn't it common courtesy that if you work at a hotel and you and a guest get to an intersection at the same time, you let the guest go first? Not here. My husband isn't as picky as me but he agreed this is the worst hotel we stayed at on our honeymoon and we both wish we had skipped this one and spent more time at the others (Villa Cora in Florence and Villa Bordoni in Tuscany).

Yelp
One of the most amazing experiences. From the castle itself, to the rooms, the pool, spa, and dinner, it was absolutely an A++. The entire staff is friendly and so attentive. Our waitress Louisa made our dinner that much more enjoyable with her courtesy and enthusiasm. A MUST VISIT IN ITALY!!

Yelp
Firstly, We did not check in. We showed up 11/24/18 and immediately heard a dog barking incessantly. We pointed that out to the staff and Massimo said, "I don't hear it." Then he proceeded to show us our room and of course it was right next door to the barking dog. He couldn't ignore this at this point since it was so loud. We told him we cannot stay in this room. He showed us other rooms - then said it would be a 200 Euro upgrade which made us perplexed. He said if we could not pay that we couldn't stay in the room. After Massimo made a phone call, he said "it wasn't his problem, and wouldn't it have made us happy should we want to bring a dog next time," which was completely not the point since we have a dog ourselves but understand that having a dog barking incessantly throughout the night is completely outrageous. We couldn't believe what he was telling us. At this point, we wanted nothing more from them and we were forced to book another hotel. We of course requested a refund since how can we be charged if we didn't even stay in the hotel. We asked Massimo and explained we would like a refund, he proceeded to say he doesn't deal with that and to contact hotel.com since we booked with them. We contact Hotels.com only to be given 80-euro voucher as a credit for a 350-euro reservation which to be honest is ridiculous and said the hotel stands by their policy to give no refund. Hope we can get a refund for the money for the booking since we could not stay there, Zero costumer service.

Yelp
A fantastic find in the mountains of Tuscany! No words can describe the magnanimity of the warm hospitality that we experienced during our stay. All the staff should be commended for their excellent customer service -- the manager, the receptionists, the hotel staff, and the restaurant staff. From the get go, reservation manager, Ruta, made us feel welcome and at home. She would greet us by name everytime she saw us -- always with a question of how is our stay and if she could help with anything. The setting was picturesque. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this mountain resort is a retreat from the fast-paced world, yet still meets all our expectations of a resort/hotel that we would normally find in a city. The food in the restaurant was Michelin star quality. We are paleo for the most part, have some food allergies, and had lots of restrictions of what we can eat and were concerned before coming that we would have to forego our strict diet. However, with the help of Manuela and Raj, we were able to stay within our limits of our very strict diet. Manuela was amazing at the wine selections. She knew exactly what we would like to complement our various meals. She was also great at our dessert choices of some sweet indulgences as well as cheese. Raj was always so attentive to our needs. We never had to wait for anything. The chef's special butter is a must-try! We do not know how the chef makes it, but you must try it! The hot spring pool is a beauty to see. Take a dip in the water, and you will not want to leave. The jacuzzi gives a gentle massage. The chaise lounge inside the pool was perfect to while away in the sun. If you don't want to be out in the sun, the indoor pool is amazing too. All the water that feeds in the pool is from the natural hot spring in the mountain. Don't forget to go in the basement for sauna time. We didn't take advantage of the spa services, but have heard nothing but great things from our fellow guests who had. Our stay was 4 days, but we could have easily stayed for more. Thank you to the staff for a wonderful experience. We will be back!
