This was a nice stop on our way from Lagos to Sevilla. Easy / free access, nice views of the town. Be ready for some uneven stairs. Adjacent church charges a 3-4€ entry but be sure to only ascend to the bell tower after they’ve been rung!

The castle is free to enter and offers good views over Tavira. The steps are steep and those less able may struggle to get to the top of the walls / towers. The gardens are also very pretty and well maintained, and accessible to all. We visited relatively early on a weekday, and it was fairly quiet.

A really lovely, free public garden within the walls of the historic castle. The best views over the town to the river can be achieved from the garden level but it's nice to climb the historic walls. Well worth a visit.

Worth a look round. Very nicely kept gardens inside. But steep steps if you want to walk on the ramparts

A peaceful glimpse into history Castelo de Tavira is a charming, well-preserved medieval castle offering stunning panoramic views over the town and the Ria Formosa. The tranquil gardens inside the walls add a serene touch, making it perfect for a short walk or a quiet moment. A must-visit if you’re in Tavira and love combining history with scenery. We only had the chance to visit over night but still was worth it!

Castle (ruins) with some viewpoints in different directions overlooking Tavira. A nice garden with different flowers and trees. Entrance was free. Toilet on site.

Interesting from the outside. There’s a basic archaeological museum inside, and you can climb the towers. A small entrance fee applies.

A nice and small castle. There is actually not much to see, and there are only the walls and the nice garden inside. Going on the walls offers a great opportunity to see the city from above.
