16th century fort, significant architectural interest as forts appear. The Egrets and fish and just as enjoyable, there's really not much to engage with inside, however, worth a visit. I must add tha the host/staff member on duty gave us a friendly and welcoming overview prior to entry as none of the literature, once inside, is in English.

Impressive castle in Arrecife!
Located directly close to the city center this place can be reached by two different walkways. It’s all over free of charge however expect some queues trying to enter the museum within the castle. From here you have great views to the city and the pier along the inner harbor. The place is exposed to the wind coming from the sea.

The area was busy even for November, it was a beautiful bright day so tourists were out in force. The surrounding area is lovely and gave me a chance to take photographs of both the architecture and the local water borne activities. The walkways to the castle are made of brick and is sometimes uneven so wheelchairs will be shaken badly. I have mobility issues but coped with the pathways and there is a ramp at the castle at the side of the stairs. We chose not to enter the small castle (fort) as the queue was long though moved fairly quickly but we had other things to do. We took a separate path back over what appeared to be a drawbridge and the view were stunning.
Update… we went back and took the tour/walk through the museum. Free entry but donations welcome. It was a nice 1/2 hour walk around.

Very interesting exhibit of the history of the Castillo. No entrance fee although voluntary donation encouraged. The guide at the entrance was able to give some history on English which was much appreciated but all the exhibits were in Spanish only otherwise 5 stars.

We were in Lisbon for 6 days before joking an NCL cruise. We walked all over the city center as there are many things to see. One was this old fort built on rocks in the water. There is now a long bridge from the mainland is easy to get there but beware, the cobble stone walkway is rather rough.
Not much to the castle but some nice cannons in front and beautiful views of the city all around.

About a 30 minute walk one-way from the cruise port (unfortunately one long final stretch over a bumpy volcanic stone walkway would be very difficult for standard wheelchairs). This FREE entry old fort houses a cute little history museum, as well as lovely water and city views from the roof. Definitely not wheelchair accessible on the inside and low ceiling (below 6 feet) in most passageways. It is a very small space and can be visited in about 25-30 minutes, and they limit the number of people inside so there may be a small queue that goes quickly. As all the signs and museum information inside are Spanish, so the entry officer kindly gave us a nice overview of the rooms in English. No particular mind blowing relics but there is a mummy and some costumes and pottery. Overall it made for a nice walk and happy that the city is investing in maintaining this piece of history and making it available to visitor for FREE.

Donation recommendation on entry, few small rooms (no English translation) of exhibits. Nice roof space with views. Worth a look , half hour maximum.
