19 Unusual Hotels in California

"In the late 1880’s, Pasadena became a popular winter resort for wealthy East-Coasters, and an enterprising hotelier began building a grand hotel that would eventually become known as the Hotel Green. It was designed from the beginning as a convenient, all-inclusive resort complex, with the builders going so far as construct the first Santa Fe Railroad depot just to the south, so travel-weary visitors had only to go half a block to find the comfort of the hotel’s luxurious lounges and rooms. As the hotel thrived in the 1890’s, it expanded across Raymond Avenue in the form of an eclectic 7-story building which mixed Spanish, Moorish, and Victorian styles together to arrive at something truly uncategorizable. This first annex to the hotel – now known as Castle Green - is all that remains of the lavish resort. It was connected to the main building by a pedestrian bridge which was demolished (except for the western portion) in the 1920’s. To the south were landscaped grounds, which are now Pasadena’s Central Park. The hotel succumbed to the changing tastes of travelers, the effects of the Great Depression, and the decline of railroads in the face of air travel. Castle Green clung on long enough for appreciation for historic buildings to come into vogue, and it has since been renovated and converted into an apartment building and special events center." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Castle Green has an incredible presence — bold, exotic architecture with detailed front entrances and a design that really stands out. It’s one of Pasadena’s most iconic buildings and you can see why it was once such a showpiece. But up close, the building looks pretty run down. Paint is fading, some parts feel neglected, and it doesn’t have the cared-for energy you’d expect from a site with this much history. The area around it doesn’t help either — Central Park across the road felt unsafe when we visited, with a strong police presence and several people sleeping rough. It takes away from what could otherwise be a great little pocket of the city. Worth a quick look for the architecture, but not somewhere we felt like hanging around.

Hosted a 20's themed fundraising event for a bit under 200 people a while back and it turned out AMAZING. Overall everything was great, the venue and caterer were awesome and easy to work with. Pretty much everything besides entertainment and décor were handled by venue and caterer which made things super easy and a low work load. Having access to the outdoor spaces and many indoor spaces is a huge plus allowing for different spaces to be used for different times during the party. Food was very tasty and the ambiance fit our theme perfectly. I will say the only thing I wish I would have known is that in the ballroom, speakers are defiantly needed in the very back if you have anything being said on a mic. We hosted a live auction and only had large speakers in the front thinking it would project to the back but with normal noise from chatter and people moving, you could not make out what was being said. Easy fix would have been to add a speaker or two to the back. I would definitely recommend the venue!

If you love historic places, gorgeous architecture, and have a flair for vintage, Castle Green absolutely has to be your first and only stop for wedding venues. For our vintage-inspired wedding in November 2024, Castle Green made the perfect backdrop. They were incredibly accommodating to host our 10-piece swing band and their in-house caterer made some of the best food our guests said they've ever seen at a wedding. Almost every single one of our guests complimented the food, atmosphere of the venue, and incredibly kind wait staff! The Director of Events Tatiana is absolutely amazing - from the moment you meet her, she is kind and thoughtful, offering ideas of how to make your wedding special and steering you away from things that haven't worked in the past. She let us stop by the venue as many times as we needed to either practice our wedding dance, show other vendors the space, and prepare for the big day. Castle Green's location, special history, and completely wonderful staff will no doubt make your wedding day unforgettable - I couldn't recommend it enough.

125 year old building. Started as a hotel and now condos. Tours are twice a year. You explore the historic lobby and other common areas. There are also rooms available for tour every floor. There was a panio playing, then a jazz band to help you feel like you went back in time. Parking lot just to the north.

Castle Green is a stunning wedding venue located in the heart of Pasadena, California, and it's truly a magical place to tie the knot. The venue's historic architecture and charming features make it a popular choice for couples who are looking for a rustic, romantic, and luxury venue all in one. As a photographer, I had the pleasure of capturing the special moments of a wonderful couple on their wedding day at Castle Green. The venue's stunning architecture and beautiful surroundings provided the perfect backdrop for their big day. The wedding ceremony was held in the courtyard, which was adorned with beautiful flowers and greenery, adding to the overall romantic and elegant atmosphere. After the ceremony, we took some photos in the courtyard before heading up to the Terrace, where we captured some truly breathtaking sunset photos. The view of Pasadena's skyline from the Terrace was absolutely stunning, and the golden hour light added a warm and intimate glow to the photos. As the sun began to set, we moved back down to the courtyard, where the reception was held. The venue's rustic charm was on full display, with its exposed brick walls, vintage furniture, and elegant chandeliers. The overall effect was a beautiful mix of old-world charm and modern elegance. Overall, I absolutely loved photographing this wedding at Castle Green, and I would be thrilled to come back and photograph this venue again. Its combination of rustic charm, romantic atmosphere, and luxury amenities make it a top choice for couples looking for a one-of-a-kind wedding venue in Los Angeles.

Everyone was so great. The Castle is truly a special place and we are honored to have had our wedding there. From the ceremony under the Magnolia tree, to the cocktail hour in the lounge, pictures on the rooftop and then the reception in the ballroom everything is magical. We could not be happier with our choice of this venue. We felt very supported by all the staff at Castle Green during the planning process and on the day. Tatiana was really great making sure that everything was ready to go!

Google
We cannot recommend Castle Green highly enough! They made our day complete in so many ways. Tatiana was incredible throughout the whole planning process, so communicative with both of us and our vendors, and endlessly helpful and excited for our Ren Faire theme! The venue itself is stunning, and has so much character. As soon as we visited, we knew it was the perfect place for everything we had in mind! We also found so many of our vendors through their wonderful recommendation list, and the vendors themselves absolutely love working with Castle Green. Thank you so much for helping make our day so magical!!

We just got married at Castle Green May 2024 and it was such a wonderful experience. First, the people make such a difference, and working with Tatiana made the process so easy and made us feel at home. The Castle itself is beautiful and interesting (we loved the history of it), my husband and I knew this was where we wanted to get married right away. It's always kept in beautiful condition and seems to run very smoothly. I loved that our guests could enjoy the different spaces - front lawn, front foyer, red rooms for cocktail hour, and dining room. It made the event flow really nicely. They have everything figured out and we liked that, it made everything easy. Can't imagine having our wedding anywhere else. Thank you Castle Green! photos by TeriB Photography

Yelp
Old school since 1899. I love these historic buildings and we had a chance to tour the grounds and many of the residences living quarters. If you love old world anything and antique furnishings then make sure to look into visiting this historic gem on a future tour open house event. The antique elevator is not allowed to be used by visiting tour guests so you would have to climb many steps to get up to visit all six floors.

Yelp
Tatiana helped provide us a most amazing wedding at the wonderful Castle Green! She was, throughout the entire process, so easy to work with, so helpful, so bright and cheery... Honestly, we were so lucky to have her and Castle Green as our venue for our son's wedding. The comments from our guests were all positive. The feeling, the uniqueness of the location, and the execution of the event were just five stars all around. We could not have been more happy and we thank Castle Green and Tatiana for making our day wonderful!

Yelp
Amazing venue for a beautiful wedding. Gorgeous grounds, koi pond and setting in a very old building/residence

Yelp
Castle Green is a fantastic location for a wedding! It's in the heart of downtown Pasadena. It's a historic hotel that has been renovated into apartment buildings upstairs and a wedding venue downstairs. We had access to all the salon rooms, outdoor spaces, and bridge (bride, groom, and photographers for pictures only). We spent a long time looking for venues all over the country and we got lucky when we found this venue right in our neighborhood. We wanted a classic, vintage, castle vibe and even though it's not a true castle, it really exceeded our expectations in decor, elegance, and ambience. It felt so regal and royal. I was so impressed each time we visited, attended an Open House, and spoke with our venue coordinator, Tatiana. The wedding day went off without a hitch. We had a great time. It was decorated beautifully and the event ran so smoothly. Their prices are very reasonable. They offered a list of preferred vendors that we could choose from to work with. I would definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking for a wedding venue!

Yelp
Exquisite! A charming historic building!! I felt as though I stepped back in time - in a silent era film!!! I was fortunate to secure Spring Annual Tour tickets. Please note, there are 50 owned units and the owners were gracious and welcomed us into their home! I was very honored to take a peek and amazed at the interiors, furnishings and art!!! We were treated with a harpist!!! The fire mantels and Tiffany lamps are divine!! The stair flooring is marble and the first floor in either hardwood or brightly colored carpet. The details in every item - a gem! Thank you for making this the most memorable historic tour!

Yelp
We got married here in July 2022 and had the best experience from beginning to end. Tatiana (Director of Events) was fantastic as she led us through the process, the Castle is absolutely stunning and we had no hiccups! There are tons of gorgeous places for photos, amazing history, and all of their preferred vendors were a delight to work with. I really appreciated Tatiana's calm attitude, booking with Castle Green was one of the least stressful parts of planning the wedding! Would recommend 10/10 and would book again in a HEART BEAT!

Yelp
We just got married at Castle Green, and the experience was as beautiful as it looks. We were enamored with the classic, historical look with both its aesthetic views outside and its intimate environment outside. The setup allowed for a wonderful ceremony on the courtyard, cocktail hour inside amid comfortable furniture and the dinner reception in its elegant ball room. The venue isn't just wonderful because of its amenities. Tatiana and her team deserve plenty of praise for how they oversee the venue. Tatiana is very transparent and thorough with both details on the venue and pricing. She was always helpful with offering help on the numerous logistics leading into the wedding. And she always did so with so much poise and joy. Castle Green has our highest recommendation for a wedding both because of the venue and because of Tatiana. -Mark and Valerie Medina

Yelp
We had our wedding at Castle Green back in March and I have nothing but amazing things to say about our whole experience. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, so naturally decorative that you don't have to add too much decor (huge money saver there!). Tatiana was so helpful in navigating us through the process and was always available to answer any questions we may have had. The venue itself is grand and elegant, and definitely gives you the upscale feeling you want for your wedding. What I loved most about it is the living room makes a great space for the cocktail hour, but also gives your guests a place to go during the reception if they don't want to be in the middle of the music and dancing in the ballroom later on in the night. Also, you can't get any better than the pictures you'll get at this venue. Every room is absolutely stunning, our wedding photos came out absolutely beautiful! You won't find another venue as unique and grand as this one in LA!

Yelp
We absolutely loved this venue for our September wedding! The entire team was so helpful and pleasant to work with- we mostly worked with Tatiana and we also had Bella there for our wedding day. The entire property is so stunning and allowed for the perfect flow of our day. We had 120 adults and 9 kids at our wedding, and the space felt perfect for that size group. We opted to add the bridal suite, which really helped us have a nice place to hang during the event as well. The location was also perfect for us to walk to our after party at Barney's Beanery on Colorado and plenty of guests could stay at hotels within walking distance. So many of our guests have been gushing about how awesome Castle Green was, and it truly was the perfect wedding venue for us!!

Yelp
Castle Green was an absolute dream to get married at. It's beautiful both inside and outside. I instantly fell in love with it the first time I went to visit. You don't need much decor if you don't want because it already has all the glam you need. We originally booked the venue back at the end of 2019 to have our wedding in 2020. Obviously that didn't happen, but during that time they were so accommodating as we postponed our wedding twice. Tatiana, the coordinator, let me go visit the venue multiple times and bring my family and friends who were helping me plan. I used Romanesque catering, which is connected to Castle Green. Because they work together all the time, the wedding went so seamlessly. Everyone commented and how wonderful, fun and efficient our wedding was because of how great the staff were. I am so pleased with how everything went and hope to one day be able to attend a wedding there myself as my husband and I didn't get to enjoy our favorite part of the venue (the cocktail hour rooms!) since we went up to do rooftop photos during that hour.

Yelp
The Castle is absolutely beautiful. We had our wedding here and they were incredibly supportive staff with amazing vendors who really made our event feel special and personalized. Tatiana is an amazing events manager who is really on top of her game and willing to help however we needed.

Yelp
Having our wedding at Castle Green was a dream! We had our wedding right at the end of the Covid vaccine/testing requirements. This was a challenge because it required all vendors to be vaccinated at the time, so we lost vendors two weeks before the wedding. But that didn't change the fact that everything worked out and was beautiful and Tatiana worked with us to make sure everything went smoothly. I only wish I could have been a guest at my own wedding to truly take in the beauty and ambience of Castle Green.

Yelp
Castle Green looks so rustic and beautiful, inside and out. It's over 100 years old and is a historical landmark. FYI, book it early as they do fill up fast and they pretty much are booked EVERY Saturday. Plus the venue is nice enough to do bridal party pictures, ceremony, AND reception in one place. Upstairs are apartments in which tenants live...so they do have some restrictions in loud music, how late you can stay, appointments to visit venue, etc...But good thing about them, you can have the ENTIRE first floor, including the lobby, ballroom, turkish/moorish room, sunroom, patios, foye, and large yard. This is great if you have a lot of people and kids . The staff here were so accommodating for us, But be warned, they do have things due a month before, a week before, etc...which is a long checklist of things to do or show to the venue. So stay on top of things and do things EARLY. Team are super friendly and helpful and extremely approachable. In summary, this is a GREAT place for a wedding or event. It's a hidden gem in old town Pasadena, close to everything, especially the bars and food! They treat you extremely well and walk you through everything. They do get behind in emails sometimes, so I recommend calling if you need something ASAP. PS, I recommend you using their valet, catering vendors

Yelp
Came here for the special Holiday Tour. Loved seeing the history of the building. Had a self guided tour of the grounds and even got to sneak a peek at the residential homes upstairs that were so beautifully decorated! It's a very lovely venue with lots of history. Gives off a very old romantic feel. I can see why it's such a popular venue for weddings.

Yelp
Castle Green, quite frankly, was the first choice we made when we were planning our wedding, and what an excellent choice at that. It was the first venue we saw, and after seeing three others, we couldn't stop comparing them to Castle Green. We immediately had to go back and lock it down. A historical landmark of Pasadena, you really feel you are transported to the past, and that was the experience that we wanted for our guests! They have a curated vendor list that really helped make planning our wedding a flawless experience. Tatiana is the Director of Events there, and she too was a major help from beginning to end. Castle Green comes highly recommended!

Yelp
We got married at Castle Green on Sep 4th, 2022...the hottest day of the year. Despite our concerns for the immense heatwave that was to come, the Castle Green team did a great job at accommodating our guests and making our special day one to remember. A special shoutout to Tatiana for helping with the planning of our wedding. Despite the fact that she wasn't able to be there on our wedding day, she did everything in her power to make sure things went smoothly. Duane from Romanesque catering was amazing at making sure all of our many vendors and the endless number of additions were in the right place and looked beautiful on the day of. Bella, the assistant on our day was absolutely amazing and helpful with our photographer to create stunning photos and make sure that our guests were well taken care of. This was also one of the few vendors that allowed outside catering/food and gave us the opportunity to provide an epic 10-course meal to our guests. The venue itself is stunning. We got SO MANY compliments about how beautiful and elegant the environment was. We couldn't be happier with Castle Green.

I had my wedding reception here and it was absolutely beautiful. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating. Would recommend 100%.

Yelp
For our wedding we looked for a venue with character and personality where we could hold both the ceremony and reception in the same location. Castle Green was the perfect spot with an old school, gothic feel and a unique charm that all our guests also enjoyed. Tatiana was a large reason why we felt comfortable moving forward with TCG as our wedding venue. Her communication and attention to detail was impeccable. Most of our other vendors were recommended from Castle Green and all were great partners for our event. On the wedding day, Bella, the event supervisor, saved the day. My wedding dress was altered to be too tight and Bella had a creative idea to adjust the dress in a way that no one even noticed a difference and the dress fit better. With both Bella and Tatiana managing the venue side, we knew that we were in good hands during the whole process. We loved working with them and our day was everything we wanted.

Yelp
I just got married at Castle Green on October 14, 2022, and it was absolutely perfect! I knew this was the venue for us as soon as I walked in. I didn't even need to bring any extra decor outside of my flowers, because the Castle is already so beautiful. Tatiana was such a pleasure to work with, and she has a special gift of being able to match couples with the right vendors! She is always available for any last minute questions, and gave us all the information we needed about complying with the building's regulations up front, and guided us through everything. All my vendors were on the Castle's preferred vendor list, and I am 100% convinced that that is why my wedding was so perfect. They are all such professionals and so good at what they do! If you are looking for a historic wedding venue in the Los angeles area, you absolutely need to book Castle Green!

Yelp
We held our wedding at the Castle Green in February 2022, and could not have picked a more incredible venue. We fell in love with the stunning garden, amazing old tree, and beautiful architecture. From the beautiful lobby and salon rooms to the outdoor spaces to the rooftop, there were so many gorgeous places to take photos. Our guests were all amazed but the historical venue and how beautifully it had been preserved. Tatiana and her team at the Castle Green were so incredibly kind, helpful, and wonderful to work with before, during, and after the big day. Highly recommend!

Katherine F.

Yelp
We just had our wedding at the Castle and it was PERFECT. Tatiana is the absolute best - kind, thoughtful and quick to answer an email! I had my heart SET on a different venue, but after touring the Castle and meeting Tatiana, my fiancee and I both knew it was the right choice for us. Our guests were so impressed and had the best time. It's also in a great location for out of town guests. There are several hotels in Old Pasadena and it's a fun area for friends and family to enjoy. Oh also the day of event staff was amazing and thoughtful as well. It's been such a joy working with everyone at the Castle and our wedding was such a beautiful good time. It's really the perfect venue!

Yelp
We had our dream wedding at Castle Green 10/14/24, and could not have had a better experience. It was really the first venue we saw -- and decided that day to pursue. Tatiana was amazing to work with when touring and booking, and made the process so easy! I really appreciated that they had a preferred list of vendors to work with which also made things easier. I especially appreciated their new bridal suite -- it made hanging out in between photos before the ceremony and before the reception much more comfortable. We are eagerly awaiting our sunset photos, as we get to be up on the roof for photos! That view was amazing, and also a nice way to take a bit of a break from a hectic day. The building itself has so much history and personality, it was easy to make wedding choices from there. We were thrilled with our wedding here -- between the team, preferred vendors, and the beautiful building itself, you can not go wrong.

Nathan E.

Yelp
We had our wedding here in 2023, and from the moment we set foot in the front door, we knew it would be amazing. The venue coordinator, Tatiana Joyet, was fantastic to work with. She was always responsive and helped us in the final month to ensure our vendors were in order. When the big day came, everything went perfectly. The dining hall was beautiful, and the space accommodated our guests and band just right. People continue to tell us what a wonderful event it was, and it was all thanks to Castle Green, Tatiana, and the rest of our team. I can't recommend this place enough!

Yelp
Loved having our wedding at Castle Green! It was a gorgeous venue and had everything we were looking for. An outdoor ceremony on the lawn by a beautiful tree, a cocktail hour indoors and outdoors with fun lawn games, and a great ballroom space indoors for the reception. Tatiana made us feel comfortable and stress free through the entire planning process and Bella was amazing during our wedding day! They were thorough and provided everything we needed and answered any question we had at any point! Our sneak peak pictures are already amazing and that's thanks in part to the beautiful venue! A perfect wedding location in the heart of Old Pasadena!

Yelp
Tatiana and Bella were phenomenal. We booked our venue almost 18 months before our wedding and they never stopped being top tier. The day of my wedding, Tatiana came even though it was her day off. Bella took control because our coordinator was overwhelmed. She executed flawlessly. Not only is the venue beautiful but the staff is amazing. For the event space, it was affordable and worth every penny. I could not give a higher recommendation.

Yelp
Castle Green is a landmark place in the heart of downtown Pasadena. We went to a wedding here a couple of weeks ago. The set up is very nice. There is a large lawn and giant wrap around porch in the front. The architecture is beautiful. Built originally in the 1890s, this place was an addition to a hotel. It looks as if it may have been updated again in the 20s, as some art deco shines through. My bf said there were a lot of touches that looked Russian. Anyhow, this place is actually residences, with a large area that is rented out for weddings and events. I'm not sure I would ever live there knowing that parties were almost every weekend downstairs, but to each his own! The living room and foyer were giant, a great place to wait for the reception hall to be prepped and ready. For this particular wedding, we waited a pretty long time. It seemed as if the people/servers setting up were behind. I am unsure if the catering company is provided by Castle Green or if you can bring in your own. I have read in other reviews that if you have your event here, you can provide your own alcohol. I think a roaring 20s theme would be awesome here. I'm thinking great Gatsby.... There is a parking garage across the street for guests. I think it was about $6.

Rebecca J.

Yelp
We had an absolutely beautiful wedding here recently. The venue was incredible and Tatiana was wonderful to work with setting everything up. Highly recommend checking this place out, you won't regret it!

Yelp
The venue is beautiful and unique and our main point person, Tatiana, was fantastic. Very professional and responsive. They are strict about certain things because it is a historical venue but all of those things are transparent and laid out to you from the get-go so you are not caught off guard. For how special the venue is, I thought the price was reasonable.

Tiffany W.

Yelp
As a wedding photographer, this has been one of my bucket list venues. I didn't realize that it was in the heart of old town until one of my couples booked a wedding here. This has been one of my favorite venues to shoot at! The architecture is beautiful, and there are so many options to take photos. Not much is needed in terms of decoration since the venue speaks for itself. I would highly recommend it to my other couples!

Yelp
Went for the Christmas Holiday Tour, which is a yearly open house event, and it was sooo worth it. If you get a chance, take part in this on Dec. 6th. It's a great way to kick off the holiday season. People open up their apartments and really show them off with holiday flare. You get to go from apartment to apartment, sampling the treats people have out for you, and you get to have a totally voyeuristic peek at people's homes. Some of them are gorgeous, some strange, all wonderful to see. The lobby and environs are also all decked out for the holidays, complete with roaring fire, and it really gets you in the mood. Sign up for it now!

Yelp
Gorgeous historical landmark. This is one of the last remnants we have of the great turn of the century hotels for which the Rose Parade was created (as an advertisement to freezing east coasters to come to Pasadena). The Castle Green is the closest thing that we have to a castle in the San Gabriel Valley (Hollywood has the Magic Castle lol), with its round turret like edges and impressive distinct structure. It's often used for weddings and the like, but is closed to the general public as it is all condo properties and stopped being a hotel long ago. A couple times a year, they will open the Castle Green for public tours, so get on their mailing list or check their website (usually in June/Dec). I attended their holiday tour last weekend, and the place is spectacularly beautiful when decorated. I can only imagine what it is like to live there all the time. Many of the tenants opened up their homes so we could peek in and see how the owner's unique character and style brought the room to life. Those who choose to live there seem to have a common eclectic artsy but wealthy common denominator. It's not cheap to live there... perhaps $3k+ to rent or $300-$400k to buy... and places are typically small considering they used to be hotel rooms. But these tenants use the space well. It's so charming. Each room looked like something that should have been in a magazine. This is a photographer's dream come true. I probably took around 300 photos since the whole place from the expansive lobby, ballroom, basement, to all of the 6 floors. The elevator is something special, but not provided to the general public during tours (unless handicapped). Tours also bring in like 700+ people, so expect to wait in line to get in. Street parking and lot parking (on Green) is available. If you have the opportunity, means, and inclination to live or tour there, you should definitely check it out.

Yelp
Because several of our friends were expecting, we had to plan our wedding on a three month timeline. While we were looking around for a venue we checked Castle Green, a historical building in Pasadena at that we had often walked by. The site coordinator Tatiana was absolutely wonderful to work with from the moment we set foot on the site all the way through the wedding day. She responded quickly to our emails, answered all of our questions clearly, and was happy to arrange site visits several times before the wedding. She was also very honest and transparent. When we asked her about the cake cutting fee, Tatiana immediately told us they don't do small, "hidden" fees at Castle Green, something we hugely appreciated. The bespoke catering provided by Little Lily Kitchen's was a unqiue proposition compared to catering at other venues and proved to be a real game-changer: everything from the hors d'ourves to the entrees were absolutely delicious. We similarly had great experiences with all of the other approved vendors we worked with from coordinator to photographer and everything in between. It was obvious all of them had formed a tight knit Castle Green family with the goal of making every event there successful. On the day-of we had Bella guiding us through the day. She was similarly a delight to work with even as whirlwind of a day as it was for us and helped to make sure we got everything we needed. Additionally, our guests unanimously expressed to us that the venue was amazing and several told us it was the best wedding they'd been to. Castle Green was the perfect venue or our wedding. We couldn't have asked for better!

Yelp
Everybody says the same thing: "oh, it's too pricey." Here's the thing, though. It's worth it! Every single dime. My wife and I were married here on July 27th. We booked the venue back in EARLY 2018 and from day one, Dior and Alexis were incredibly attentive and genuine with our needs. Each time we got to speak with them, we felt more and more at ease. The decor is gorgeous. There's no need for decoration, if you don't want it. The history of this place creates an elegant ambiance that's both casual and sophisticated. The over-hundred year old furniture is refurbished to really make you feel like you're approaching the turn of the century, and the Rose Parade can wait because you're having an excellent time. The Castle becomes a person of its own, that you DON'T have to struggle to get an RSVP from. You're limited with whom you can use as a vendor. But that doesn't matter, because you're going to fall in love with a lot of their choices (We went with Romanesque Catering. Truly, nobody better). We are not wealthy people, by any stretch of the imagination. But that did not stop the staff at the Castle from treating us like pureborn royalty. If you're considering this venue for a wedding or an event, Dior and her team are going to have your back the whole way at the Castle Green.

Yelp
After visiting numerous wedding venues, my daughter selected Castle Green for her wedding in May of 2019. The coordinator, Dior, was very easy to work with. We were able to attend their vendor open house event and ended up selecting our caterer (Castle Catering), our florist (Flowers by Sharen), our DJ (VOX DJs) and our day of coordinator (La Bella Dia) from their preferred vendors. A few Yelp reviews mention that there are a number of rules as this is a historic venue. The rules are in place, but not at all difficult to work with as you are aware of them up front. I will mention that Samantha (La Bella Dia) was on the spot to keep us within the parameters and we did not have any issues at all. The ability to bring in your own alcohol to this venue saves a ton of money. The venue itself is visually stunning and a beautiful backdrop for your event. No regrets and delighted we selected Castle Green. Check it out - it may be perfect for you!

Yelp
We visited many different venues around Los Angeles, Glendale, Arcadia, and Pasadena for our wedding ceremony and reception. We ended up choosing Castle Green, not just because of the historical architecture and mesmerizing view, but because of the customer service. Dior, the Event Manager at Castle Green, was such a pleasure to work with. She was always smiling and so fun to be around with. We also met and worked with Alexis. She was so friendly and helpful. We loved working with them both. The venue was definitely one of the pricier expenses for the wedding but it was seriously worth every time. You get the venue for the entire day. We maximized our time there with our first look, tea ceremony, wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. The venue fit our amount of guests of a little over 100 very comfortably. Everyone raved about the venue. My now-husband's mom even said it was the perfect venue. We were so excited to host our wedding here because it was no-like any other wedding venues that we've been to. From the set-up, the capacity of the multiple rooms, the layout, to the many, many, many places to take photos within Caste Green, I have no regrets choosing Castle Green for my wedding. We even got to go on the manual elevator to the rooftop for photos -- definitely a must-do if you decide to book with Castle Green.

Yelp
I attended a wedding here recently and found Castle Green to have a lot of charm and character. It was a lovely and excellent choice to have a wedding basically adjacent to Old Town Pasadena. The venue had a number of distinct areas for the ceremony, the cocktails, reception, cake and desserts, dancing and photo booths for small to medium sized weddings (up to 75-100 people?). The different spaces allowed guests to be moved from one area to another. At the same time, it allowed staff to set up between different parts of the wedding. One unfortunate shortcoming was the audible (and sometimes loud) traffic sounds of the busy street outside during the ceremony. You can't hear any street noise once you are inside the venue. Be sure to allow extra time to park in the public parking lots nearby (as a couple of lots we went to were filled up by 4 pm) and then you need time to walk up to a few blocks over. Or save the hassle and just Uber/Lyft. I have to admit, I never knew such a quaint and cute place existed despite having been a SoCal resident since I was 7.

Absolutely incredible!!! Beautiful venue! All vintage 1898, with tall ceilings and gorgeous wood work throughout! Large fireplaces, stunning grand entrance, with rounded staircase. Gorgeous setting! Lovely grounds!!Wonderful wedding coordinators who have been there for many years! We could not have had a better experience! From the beginning of the entire process, they were excellent at communicating, responded quickly to emails and calls, were very thorough, had great input and ideas, were very kind and wonderful to work with!! Dior and Alexis, there are none better than you both! I can not thank them enough for all they did to make my daughters wedding exceptional! Blown away by the entire thing!! I'll post professional photos when they come!! Top notch all the way!!

Yelp
Just married here on 2/17/18 was the absolute BEST PLACE and we looked EVERYWHERE and I am not kidding! Castle Green was the absolute best location to get married if you are in to vintage decor, history, historical structures, and the best ambiance around. It has everything that you will need and Dior was so helpful and lovely while we were planning, I recommend this place to any and every one who is looking for a spectacular venue to get married in! Plus it is very affordable compared to other venues in and around Los Angeles! Check it out! You will NOT regret it.

Yelp
Venue Search #2 I was looking for mansions/museums/barns for a antique feel to it. I looked at various websites and as a avid yelper, I looked among yelp as well as Here Comes the Guide, The Wedding Channel/The Knot, and other wedding websites. This placed looked beautiful in photos. I scheduled a visit in the afternoon with Shannon. I walk by Castle Green all the time (since I work in Pasadena) and never noticed it. I came to the gate and was buzzed in. When you enter, the lawn is pretty taken care of. They have a fountain and it was pretty. I came in and put my stuff down and filled out information for Shannon. She came down and started giving me the tour (she also gave me a packet with information on catering and such). The cocktail hour setting (indoors) was gorgeous. Very antique and historic. I loved the structure and furniture... then we walked to the ballroom... I was kinda disappointed... it was able to fit 200 guests but it looked pretty tight especially if you wanted a dance floor. Also, the walkway was straight through the ballroom so it kinda separated the sections. I wasn't a big fan of that because then waiters and just people can walk back and forth in the hallway. It just felt separated. They would provide the tables, chairs, linens and such, which is standard. They also had their own caterers but you could also have a outside caterer for additional fee of $10/per person and to be approved by Castle Green. Totally fine. For the ceremony, you need to provide your own chairs and decor. So you bring your own arch and such. This part of Pasadena can get noisy because it's Old Town Pasadena. She said it would be quiet during the 3-6 period and that's when the ceremony should be. It's gated all around so that is nice. I wasn't really impressed with the exterior of the Castle. The interior looked nice (that cocktail room) but other than that... it was alright. PARKING: Valet $22 per car Parking garages - $6 max (first 90 min free) She didn't give me the option to buy validated parking from her for the parking garage. Also, I thought about the girls in heels walking from the parking garage to the castle and felt bad. They didn't even offer parking for the bride/groom. PERSONALITY: I felt like I didn't click with the coordinator. She was so nice but I really felt like I wasn't really welcomed or wanted. I don't know. I just didn't feel comfortable talking or expressing my questions or thoughts to her. And you always want to feel comfortable talking to the coordinator. Overall, the place is nice and historic, but it just didn't move me the way I wanted it to. Yelp
A large renaissance hotel - looking structure right smack in the middle of Pasadena. I think its used as apartments and as an event venue these days. My cousin's wedding was held here, and it did make for some gorgeous photographs! I suppose they call it a castle because it does have a covered allure connected to a watchtower, connected to the rest of the main building that gives it a scenic look to it... But all the romantic charm of the building and the decor could not overcome a few blaring aspects to make me fall in love with it. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vUbFLzrvcCNYN1XJt3IclA?select=PBVactVikCiXQ-BN5SgVbg What I liked: -The grounds are well kept and beautiful. -There is a very pretty fountain in the middle of courtyard. -Rich Gothic furniture in the lobby of the building. What I did not like: -Insufficient restrooms for the facility. Two stalls in both men's and ladies restrooms... hope you can hold it. -The street is literally three feet from the reception grounds. Hearing a car alarm go off during the exchange of vows was NOT romantic. You see that fence covered in vines around the perimeter of the reception area? Yeah, on the other side of that is the very busy STREET! You'll hear cars going by / random honking. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/vUbFLzrvcCNYN1XJt3IclA?select=eJHiAOtkqRWeT7fmtmElCA Other than that, Castle Green really is a unique place to host your reception. They do have a nice indoor ballroom area. If your event has less guests, (I'm assuming around 125 or less) it would be a magical venue indeed!!

Yelp
We love Rosalinda! I wasn't one of those brides that had their dream wedding planned since they were 5 years old. The wedding planning seemed a bit daunting and I was extremely nervous. After meeting with Rosalinda I was super excited and confidant about the wedding planning process. Unfortunately, Castle Green was the first venue we looked for our May wedding so we had to do our due diligence and look at other venues. No other venue compares to Castle Green, not in LA county, OC county, and Ventura county. We spent months looking at other venues before we finally agreed that Castle Green was the place for us. Not only does Castle Green offer distinctive architecture but also multiple spaces (indoor & outdoor) that's fenced off so you don't have to worry about strangers walking in off the street or kids wandering off. Also, I loved the fact that it's so hidden, I felt we were treating ourselves and our wedding guests to a behind-the- scenes treat. But you're in the heart of Old Town Pasadena so guests don't need to drive far and there's plenty to do nearby. The multiple spaces was important because I wanted there to be a flow, guests start in one section and move through new spaces for different parts of the wedding. I'm not a fan of weddings where guests are corralled into one giant room (usually done at hotels). There were some cons but we were able to overlook or work around them. The first is the price, Castle Green does charge a high venue rental fee (understandable when you see the historical place) so we had to increase our budget just to rent this place. Since this is SoCal we always look at the parking situation, there is no parking lot for Castle Green but we were able to get validated parking tickets from our caterer for the nearby School House parking structure so our guests didn't have to pay. Being a weirdo I also judge on bathrooms, the ladies restroom was tiny and only had 2 stalls (maybe 3); however, I heard no complaints and the bride gets her own restroom in the bridal suite. =) In the end we were both happy that Castle Green was our wedding venue and look forward to visiting it again on our anniversary!

Yelp
My husband and I absolutely fell in love with Castle Green as soon as we stepped inside the front doors. Don't get me wrong, the venue is stunning from the outside as well but it isn't until you step inside that you feel yourself taken back in time. The venues is kept in immaculate condition which is impressive considering that almost everything inside is vintage or an original. Because it was so beautifully decorated inside already, we didn't have to worry about bringing in our own decorations. Also don't feel limited to the vintage feel of the venue. We had a lot of fun with our wedding and used a lot of both vintage element and modern colorful components. The beauty of the venue really speaks for itself. The staff there at Castle Green are AMAZING! They really made us feel so comfortable as soon as we walked in and they really were an integral part of our team through the whole wedding planning process. I really can't say enough about how genuine both Dior and Rosalinda were in wanting to create a memorable and truly unique wedding experience for us. If it weren't for those two ladies, it really wouldn't have been the same. Lastly, they're very flexible on the catering and you can bring your own alcohol which is a huge money saver. I would highly recommend that you speak to Ron at Castle Catering if you're going to have your reception here. He's so easy to work with and they have a program where they partner with a lot of different local restaurants so they can offer you a wide array of cuisines. If you love a local Pasadena restaurant, chances are you can have them bring their food in to serve your guests. It's so easy and very convenient. I would highly recommend the Castle Green to anyone looking to host an event at a beautiful location without the hassle or breaking your bank.
