Castle Hotel & Spa - Luxury Hotel near NYC

After nearly two years of anticipation to visit Castle Hotel & Spa and enjoy its magical atmosphere, I finally booked a Halloween stay in March, hoping to experience the season in this iconic setting close to Sleepy Hollow. Living nearby, I’d always seen it as a perfect getaway and decide to save it for this magical, fall weekend. Two days before my arrival, upon reading recent reviews, I discovered that key amenities—including the spa and restaurant, and all more atmosphere settings details like fire pit and outdoor lights at night—are closed and non-operational. For a property that brands itself as a spa, it was especially surprising that the actual spa has been closed for most of 2024 with no clear reopening date nor with this information written anywhere, including the long message with information they send prior your arrival. The restaurant has also been closed. Much of what makes this place so special is unavailable. The only thing properly mentioned is the opening/closing dates of the outdoor pool. Given that the rates are substantially high compared, since they are meant to include all amenities, I asked if an adjustment or accommodation would be made. No, the rate would stay the same. After 8 months of anticipation, 2 days before my trip, I decided to sadly cancel, explaining that these closures should be disclosed upfront, as most guests likely expect the full experience and would only learn otherwise upon arrival. Their response was simply "ok"—no apology or recognition of my concern, which was another letdown. It’s unfortunate that a place with so much potential isn’t more transparent with its guests.

We won’t be staying here again. Lots of amenities don’t work or are not open. The spa, restaurant, fire pit, tree lights, and lamps on the back patio don’t are not open/don’t work. Some employees need training on customer service. We had black mold in the bathroom of the first room they put us in and thankfully we were able to switch rooms. Overall, the rooms are spacious and served our family well for the stay. But they aren’t 4-star worthy. The history of this place is spectacular and the grounds are gorgeous, but it’s not worth the price with the lack you receive for the price they charge. I would have preferred they told us the amenities weren’t working when we booked, then we would have had our expectations lower.

The hotel is not luxury, in any way. All the amenities were closed for the foreseeable future, including both the spa (it's in the name of the hotel) and the on-site restaurant. The whole place feels old and tired. The room was fine- spacious and beds were comfy- but so dated. Old carpets, furniture all banged up and the bathroom was decorated 40 years ago and not touched since. I would never go back nor would I recommend this hotel. We also were not told the spa was closed. We booked for a SPA WEEKEND. The website had no information about it being closed, and we were able to book spa appointments weeks in advance. We even got confirmations of our appointments two days before but they were actually closed and no spa appointments nor spa weekend for us. Do yourself a favor and don't book here. For $400 a night, I expect way better.

The hotel has stunning grounds and is perfect for a quiet escape; however, for a luxury hotel, the service was lackluster. I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 7 years and our experience was less than favorable. We arrived at your hotel with another couple in the early afternoon. Their room was ready upon arrival; however, our wasn’t. I inquired whether another room was available instead, I was told no. I asked to complete the paperwork while at the desk and obtain the key when it was ready and once again was told no. David was not a pleasant GSA to interact with. A closed restaurant, spa, and bar are significant drawbacks especially since the hotel charges a resort fee - for what I’m not sure. Also the beautiful fountain wasn't functioning, adding to the overall sense of neglect. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a truly luxurious stay. This hotel might be a better fit for a photoshoot only, as the focus is primarily on the aesthetics.

My boyfriend and I had a lovely time here! Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was wonderful. The property was really lovely and totally a new experience for us. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a quiet, relaxing experience away from the everyday chaos. If you're looking to go on adventures, there are nearby towns within 10-15 minutes. If you like to party, respectfully not the place you because it's quiet and tame. For those of us loungers, it's a dream come true!

The outside of the hotel is gorgeous and it’s in a nice location. We were there during Halloween last year and the decorations were a nice touch. The spa and restaurant was closed so that was the first downfall especially since I was still charge a facility fee. The room we stayed in was HORRIBLE. We stayed in one of the large suites at the very top. There were bugs all over the ceiling and the front desk staff refused to come look at them and stated they were lady bugs. The towel rack was falling off the wall. Stains on the floor. The room was very outdated. The front desk staff said they couldn’t get me money off or cancel the second night. I asked to speak with management or have them call once we left the hotel and I was never contacted. I normally wouldn’t mind the outdated room or broken things in room but the bugs and lack or service was the issue. For the price of 900$ for two nights its was NOT worth it and you likely won’t hear back if there is any concerns.

Closed pool, closed SPA, Closed restaurant and no discount. A person could not come, no gesture from the hotel either. We had a chair in the room, the feet moved so much that we didn’t dare to sit on it. The city can be reached on foot in 30 minutes by walking on the road because there is no sidewalk. A bed had perforated sheets.. We were not offered a service to bring our luggage to the room. Meetings were held on site with meals but the catering service was closed, it’s not very logical. Some positive points however, the mattress was comfortable, the garden is nice but many improvements need to be made. Breakfast is simple: melon, bagel, butter, jam, cheese spread, cereal bar, Greek yogurt, muffins, apple, banana and instant oats.Sometimes with a little luck we had pineapple

My wife and I had a lovely stay at the Castle Hotel and Spa, to our surprise on check in we were upgraded to a larger suite. The room was very spacious, had great views of the Hudson and was really cozy for a weekend getaway out of the city. The staff was all very courteous and everything was clean. Only downside was the Spa and Restaurant were still under renovation so we will have to come back and try them out. Otherwise, Tarrytown has a lot of great restaurants that we were able to explore. Overall for the price, history and service, I would recommend a stay!

Firstly, the venue is literally a castle. It's beautiful, the grounds included. The staff was friendly and courteous. The room was clean and well prepared. Also, the pool was lovely and the continental breakfast was delicious. Our stay, overall, was pretty good. However, there were some glaring issues. The restaurant and spa were closed, which we learned by way of the 'welcome' message. It was not listed as such, which would have impacted our decision in booking. Thus, we ended up spending our time at other venues for dining experiences. Lastly, we inquired about a possible wedding there, having emailed and called to set up an appointment never to get a response. We were there personally and met with someone who showed us around and prepared a potential contact - which was never sent to us. So, we decided to look elsewhere for a wedding venue and found one. Big takeaway: It's a nice aesthetic, but not worth the price.

My hubby and I found about this place online. Decided to get out of Manhattan for the weekend (last week of July). Upon arriving and walking into the lobby, the young man at the desk was on the phone. Someone was calling the desk about changing their room. I was clearly waiting and even sat in a chair across from him. He hung up and never even addressed me while he took another call. I had to initiate the convo. He wasn't nasty but, the customer service skills really need to be improved. The drive up the driveway was beautiful and building itself is grand. It has a storied history as well, which is very cool. But this is billed as a LUXURY hotel. Meaning luxury prices and amenities. It definitely is NOT. We luckily did not pay the full rate and got a discount but, it is still way too much money for what they offer. You can clearly see where they are operating on a budget once you've settled in. The room itself was very clean. There was a small flat screen tv (way too small) and 4 older remotes operating different electronic devices, which was a pain. The furniture is dated and need to be replaced. The bathroom was nice and updated. However, the towels were scratchy. The drain in the tub would not drain and we had to take the stopper off so that we weren't standing in a puddle. The toilet seat and shower curtain was very cheap as well. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well in it. The air conditioning unit worked but had seen better days, as it came on and off, it squeaked loudly. The carpeting was dated and was ready for a new installation but didn't look bad. They provided 2 bottles of water, a Keurig machine with pods and 2 tea bags along with mugs and drinking glasses. There was the regular amenities. Small fridge, iron, ironing board, safe, hair dryer, shampoo, body wash, hand soap, etc, clothing hangers and a closet to house some of it. The toilet paper and tissues were cheap. I think this place is well understaffed. You hardly see anyone. I have a feeling people are doing multiple jobs. Other than the dismissive desk clerk. Everyone else was welcoming and friendly. I don't believe there is a porter or valet. I don't believe there is any room service as well. Maybe I am wrong. At night, it is extremely dark while walking from your car. They need lighting specialists to come and illuminate this place. There is a pool area and a spa. But the spa was closed to guests and there was a sign directing you to a spa in town. The pool was open but, the hot tub was not on when we visited. There is a massive chess set that you can walk on and play the game. That was cool. There were seating areas with patio furniture and even a fire pit, which as beautiful. The red cushions were cheap and had seen better days and then some. I didn't even want to sit on them. Warped and old. The dining areas were beautiful and had a room with a view of the Hudson River when having breakfast. We did not go down for breakfast at all. So I can't comment on that. But there was ice water in different locations and tea and coffee in the dining area. We had a pleasant enough stay but, I would not return solely based on the rates being charged and we had a discount. We stayed at a StayBridge hotel in North Brunswick NJ the next weekend and they had WAY more amenities than this place with free laundry room and 24 coffee, tea, juice and soda for guests. With a working hot tub and large clean pool. Also a fire pit on a patio and free happy hours with wine and food to munch on. I keep seeing that the previous owners ran this hotel well. But the current owners are trying to run a mediocre hotel with very exorbitant prices. I have stayed in many luxury hotels but nothing like this. It was cool to spend time in Tarrytown, I love the area and building but, we will not be back to the Castle.

I convinced my family to drive almost three hours to visit this place. We changed our flights over to white plains just to stay here. We arrived and were notified everything was closed because a commercial was being filmed. I tried to make the most of it and walked my family down to the pool. The pool was filthy with leaves and dirt and it closes at 6. If they have the restaurant, library, chess game, and spa blocked off they should have extended the pool hours. We didn't drive all the way here to be locked in a filthy room. This room was disgusting. The toilet was covered in the previous guests urine! Yes , you read that right! URINE!!!The shower drain is broken and it had mold. Everything was sticky and it smells of twenty years of different perfumes. The light switch is broken. The toilet paper is like sandpaper. Walking around you notice all the windows need a good cleaning. Spider webs up by the library are everywhere. I can't believe people pay this much to stay here. Other than the outside being cool looking this place is not even best western quality. Also the outdoor chairs are stained, soaking wet, and covered in leaves. I would recommend people coming to look at the outside but I wouldn't ever recommend staying here.

I enjoyed my birthday stay here. Perfect place for the celebration. If you are looking for a quiet place to celebrate your special day, this is the right place. We stayed on the 4 floor wing side bldg of the hotel. We had a huge room, big bed, good views and there are bath robe and slippers in our room. Smells pretty good everywhere. The bathroom complimentary essentials are really nice. Continental Breakfast is included with our stay. We preferred to eat our meal on the patio with a beautiful view of the garden. My husband enjoyed the life-size chess board and the grounds. I enjoyed the hot tub and the pool. Be advise that the poolHours is only from 10 am - 6 pm daily. We came on a Monday so Restaurant and spa is not open, only accommodating during Fridays to Sundays. We got a good deal for staying on weekday but could be better if spa or restaurant are open. The advantage of coming on a weekday, there is less crowd and the inside portion of the castle can be visited without hesitation. Beautiful staff. Very accommodating. Will definitely come back in the future.

Stayed here last night in one of the suites. I wish we could have spent our whole vacation here. The grounds and castle are very beautiful. To me it felt like there was a story around every turn. My four kids had the time of their lives exploring and playing on the big chess board outside. The bartender is fantastic and very hospitable, we had great conversation and brought up some great whiskeys from the basement for me to enjoy. The front desk manager David or Daniel (can't remember his name) is wonderful. Very respectful and I can tell cares a great deal about the establishment. All of the hotel staff were wonderful. Breakfast was hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, varieties of fruits and some pastries. We really enjoyed our time here and I highly recommend at least one night.

Get a new manager. Maria was the worst. There was an error in our reservation and she refused to help us. Very unpleasant. We are cutting our stay short and going elsewhere. That's how bad it is. To top it off , all they don't even have their Restaurant and spa open .

My wife and I just finished our second stay validating the reason we returned. The quiet, the well-kept grounds and the excellent service vindicated our decision. Special mention is due to Kevin Hunter who for the second time proved that great service, kindness and good cheer makes all the difference!

I rarely write reviews but the rare case I do is because I had either a great or terrible experience. I thought I had left a review here a amonth or so ago when I had visited. Anyways after seeing I'm not the only one calling this place a scam, I'm pretty sure a terrible experience is likely the norm. Seriously look at some of the other recent reviews...it is clearly not just me. I gave them a chance to make things right or at least partially right, but I was told they'd call back or I should try calling them. It took over a month to get ahold of Maria who we were told is the only person who could help us, and even when we finally managed to get in contact with her via calling via another phone number, they left us on hold for a while. I was almost left wondering if they are maliciously doing this in the way a scam does on purpose. Maybe the service is just normally terrible nowadays on what used to be a nice hotel years ago. Let's start with the basics, of why id suggest avoiding this place. They dont have any of the amenities they claim, no gym,no spa, no restaurant. But then the experience gets worst when should you need to reach them, and they leave you hanging after taking (or should I say stealing since they claim theyll resolve it and avoid your calls for so long) your money. Don't sour what you'd want to be a nice memorable time with this place. There are many other hotels in the are which are actually still very nice. This hotel is not what it used to be and looking at other recent reviews here and on trip advisor dont waste your money here.

My husband and I were excited to spend our wedding night at the Castle Hotel & Spa. Unfortunately, we immediately found at least a dozen worms in the bathroom. Upon calling the front desk, the person at the desk came to the room and removed the worms by scooping them with a piece of paper. He then brought us to a different room which had the same hygienic problem -- worms in the bathroom. My husband and I then left the hotel. Since we paid through a 3rd party, we have been trying to get refunded for the past 2 months. The hotel denies that this issue existed and they very rarely answer the phone as our travel company has attempted to reach out numerous times. Not only does this hotel fail to meet hygienic standards, it also conducts itself unprofessionally and unethically. Do not make a reservation at the Castle Hotel & Spa in Tarrytown, NY under any circumstances!

If you are looking for a rare gem, this is it. This hotel is beautiful. Pros: The castle grounds are lovely with many places to sit outside and take in the nature. My children loved the oversized chess game. We enjoyed breakfast outside on the patio. Picture perfect. The rooms are large and the beds comfy. When we asked for extra amenities, they were delivered in a basket that looked like a gift. Top notch. The staff is so nice. We spoke at length to Brian and Nathalia who were so kind and helpful. Nathalia could see I'm a history buff, so she gave me a tour of the hotel unprompted. I was thrilled to see all the historic elements. The breakfast was continental style. It was sufficient for a quick breakfast: coffee, juice, eggs, pastries, etc. Cons: None that we saw! The hotel was very quiet. We got the impression that they were, perhaps, negatively impacted by Covid and struggling to get back on their feet in terms of number of guests. This is a beautiful, unique place to stay with wonderful staff, lovely grounds, and comfortable rooms. They have a beautiful ballroom and lovely dining areas for weddings. We were not there when the restaurant was open, but the dining area was lovely with amazing views. Overall, we highly recommended this hotel.

I will freely admit that after reading all the very negative recent reviews about The Castle Hotel, I was more than a bit apprehensive about our upcoming stay there. But since we had made a discounted reservation that was non-refundable, off we went - and were very pleasantly surprised by what we found. On the whole, our experience at The Castle was quite enjoyable, and we would definitely return. The positives: The Castle is an impressive building that would not look out of place in the English countryside; one could almost imagine running into Lord Grantham. Its architecture is stunning and the grounds well maintained and beautifully landscaped. The premier double queen room we had on the third floor in the newer wing was huge (350-400 square feet), clean, nicely furnished, and with very comfortable beds. The continental breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of offerings. We would also like to commend David, the front desk manager with whom we mostly dealt, for his welcoming attitude and his help with a couple of minor issues. We were also fortunate enough to get a private tour of the ornate rooms in the original castle building where events are held, and they were one of a kind. Needs improvement: A couple of areas where improvements are needed caught our eye. The company contracted to manage the hotel seriously understaffs front desk operations, as it often appeared that there was only one employee to run the whole show - two calls I made to the hotel were never answered, and upon check-in no one was at the front desk. Second, the parking situation can be chaotic, especially when special events are being held, with parking spaces all over the grounds and many marked for valet parking only. Finally, bills need to be simplified, since I found it impossible to accurately figure out in advance the exact cost of the room itself, taxes, and amenity fee - although to my pleasant surprise the final bill was significantly less than what I had calculated (and much less than what I had paid two years earlier at one of the nearby chain hotels).. So, in sum, I would rate The Castle as a four-star hotel, one that needs some fine-tuning in its operation but also one that is definitely very good value for an amazing experience and for its Old World ambience.

This hotel is amazing. Reminded us of Europe. Caesar and Alex were very nice and accommodating and totally made our stay amazing!!!! The property is old but that is the charm of it all and really enjoyed the history and experience. We also did the private dinner and every course was phenomenal. It is a set fixed menu that had a lot of fish so keep that in mind however, I don't normally order fish and thought it was fantastic. If you're expecting modern, this isn't the place for you but if you're looking for an adventure and to get away and try something different, this is so worth it.

Beautiful setting and grounds! The building is stunning inside and out with many exceptional artisan features. My favorite is the boar's head that was carved into a huge stone fireplace mantel. The staff made us feel welcome, especially Kevin and the fine gentlemen at the front desk.

We have stayed here many times before covid and were disappointed when it closed. This is our first time back since then. First I would like to start off by saying this has nothing to do with staff. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating even though they were very, very understaffed and overworked. We had a beautiful suite which was very clean and the bed very comfortable. Unfortunately, the bathroom was infested with inch worm type bugs and beetles. We only stayed one night, there is no way I could have stayed another. The pool had leaves all around the patio area and a lot of dirt and sand on the bottom of the pool. The locks were broken in the outside bathrooms at the pool and you could not close the doors. No shower curtain in the shower. The chair pads on the lawn were wet in the morning (they should be taken in a night and put out in the morning, so they are not wet). Before the new owners took over you were able to get food and drinks and services at the pool and you could get a full breakfast with eggs, etc. They had a magnificent spa and valet service. There is none of that now. Although when you get the reservation confirmation it gives you an area to click on to make an appointment for the spa and restaurant but when you click on it, it says "permanently closed" for both. The owners can't even update their website correctly. At one time this place was quite a gem but no more. I don't understand why the new owners would buy this place if they are not going to any attempt to put any real effort into making it the wonderful place it once was. They just don't seem to care. Again, I want to emphasize this has nothing to do with the staff.

Beautiful hotel. Very Victorian. But I don't understand how this meets criteria for 4 star hotel. Service was almost non existent. Very pricey for the level of service we received. Very difficult to get anyone to pick up the phone if you have questions.

Beautiful property and amazing ambience ruined by horrible management and crazy overpricing. It's a gorgeous place to visit but without proper cleaning, maintenance, ANY kind of service, with a run-down restaurant, and a 2-star cold snack bar protein-less breakfast, this place is not worth the price I'm paying. If they promoted it as a The Shining experience it might be a more accurate description.

We stayed at The Castle at Tarrytown this past weekend 11/3-11/5/23. This was our 4th stay at the property. My husband and I have made a tradition of choosing The Castle as a celebratory weekend getaway for our anniversary 4 years in a row. In addition to the beauty of the property and it being a reasonable distance from our home, the luxurious details the property upheld over the years kept us coming back EVEN during Covid when the spa and restaurant were closed. I booked a suite (suite 6) this year. In the past, we enjoyed the junior suite but I wanted to make this year special for my anniversary. While the room was beautiful and very large, I immeasurably noticed the rugs in the main area and outside the bathroom were significantly water stained (photo not included). I tried to light the electric candles in the fireplace but they didn't work. Ok, no problem. It's an old hotel. Upon going yo bed thst first night, I noticed a lady bug by the window next to the bed. Ok, no problem. In the morning, it was dead, along with two others and then I noticed another on the ceiling and more in the main room of the room. In addition, the shower didn't drain and there was no soap or shampoo in the dispensers. We kindly addressed these concerns to the front desk and his response was , "the ownership changed recently and corners have been cut". After being out all day, we returned to find more bugs, dead and alive in the room (photos enclosed). While the shower was fixed, no one cleaned tge very obvious dead bugs from the room. The soap dispensers still didn't work so we asked for some products be delivered to the room while we were at dinner. Upon our return, the products were delivered but the bugs were still there!? After complaining, again, the front desk apologized and said we would get a credit upon check out. We did. $200. If a customer spends $500/night, the expectation is luxury. There were no chocolates on the bed. Last year, I believe they gave us a bottle of wine and macaroons as repeat customers. Here are the photos. Needless to say, we were justifiably disappointed with our stay.

From the moment we walked in to tour this stunning Castle , we knew it was the one. We were hesitant to go in for a tour because of the horrible reviews but we decided to give it a shot. We were shocked and excited to find out when we took tour, that the new owner Michael Pasqualini of Mansion on Broadway took over the Castle in January 2024. The Mansion on Broadway was also on our venue list to tour. Vincent Corso the sales director worked with us from the beginning to the very end and truly made us feel so at peace throughout the planning process and on our wedding day. The warmth we felt from each and every staff member was like nothing we've experienced before. Our guests were blown away by the exceptional food & drinks thanks to our great bartender David. Our friends and family are still raving about it all to us. Our wedding was truly top notch thanks to all the Castle provided, having attended many weddings, the service here is unmatched. We can't thank Vincent and Johana who was out maitre along with the Castle staff enough for making my dream wedding come true.

Atrocious service. They didn't offer a (digital) room confirmation, I would guess, so that they can overbook and move people around at the last minute. Surprise, surprise, they moved us to another room when we arrived. Then when we made simple inquiries as to what happened, they acted defensively/aggressively with their gaslighting. Very glad I will never have to deal with this place again.

Whilw the grounds were gorgeous, the staff and hotel are a mess. Housekeeping left garbage all over the halls, the tv didn't work and there were laminated instructions with typos. Above all that. the sidewalks were sheets of ice and many (MANY) outside doors were left unlocked so anyone could come & go. While the location & views are majestic, I wouldn't stayt here again for free.

What a beautiful property! Very peaceful and quiet. We felt like the only guests there. The first evening, Brian was working the front desk. He was incredibly friendly and welcoming and offered many suggestions for dining in the area. Later in the evening when I asked for some additional creamer for my morning coffee he was more that happy to run to the kitchen and grab me as much as I needed. The following day June was manning the front desk. I asked a question about the property and she offered to take us on on a tour. We loved hearing about the history of the estate. The only thing more we wished for our stay was the bar to be open during our stay (currently it's weekends only) but the stay and hospitality was so enjoyable it wasn't enough to effect my rating. There is a continental breakfast buffet that was included in our stay that had some nice options such as bagels and lox and chocolate croissants

Absolutely stay here if you want a one star hotel charging five star prices! When we arrived, there was NO one at the front desk, no one to help with the bags. We had to wait to check in (after 3pm) and no one ever offered to help with the bags. There were self-service luggage carts. There were no tissues or soap in one of our rooms. When I asked for more hand towels, I got washcloths. When I asked for more washcloths (they hadn't replaced our when they serviced the room), I got nothing. When I asked again, I got hand towels and was told to use those. But the BEST part was when the front desk clerk was extremely rude when I asked for a 30 minute delay in check out from 11 to 11:30 as we'd booked brunch in the hotel and wished to change afterwards. Nope, no dice, can't help at all. The rooms were nicely appointed, but the front desk staff lacked respect, empathy and knowledge. Would never stay again.

My family stayed at the Castle Hotel over Thanksgiving weekend in three rooms. The staff on site were terrific -- friendly and helpful with young children. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The shower was unusually good. As mentioned by others, the grounds and building are impressive. During the off season, the Spa and restaurant are closed and the breakfast is basic. We understood this when we reserved our rooms. The room prices are reasonable and there are nearby restaurants that are excellent. Before arriving I was concerned by some of the negative reviews on this site but none of them reflect our experience. Highly recommended by this frequent traveller.

Please please save your money and DO NOT stay here. We arrived for a birthday getaway for myself which my boyfriend had booked since June. At face value before you see the rooms and arrive on the grounds it's gorgeous. However, that's all that is it. When we got to the reception Natalia and another coworker (who said she was new) were checking us in. My boyfriend inquired about a 15% discount offered for NY residents as he paid a steep price for day stay with spa services and didn't receive any discount. Natasha proceeded with an attitude to say "it's already on there" we hadn't even pulled up our itinerary and she said it was without looking. I let it go bc I didn't want to let someone's nasty attitude ruin my time. We proceeded to check in and go to our room. When we arrive to the room the room looked SO OLD! Everything was outdated, it wasn't the room we booked and not what we requested. So we went back up to reception to speak with Natalia. We explained that the price we were paying for and the room we reserved was not what we wanted. She proceeded to have a nasty attitude and said it was to her discretion if she wanted to change it or not. I told her the value of the room we were in was $200 less than what we paid for. I had to walk away bc I felt myself getting ready to be really nasty. I let my boyfriend take over since he made the reservation. She proceeded to provide us with Suite 6. All the way at the top of the hotel with a NON WORKING elevator. We had to carry our bags 3 flights of stairs. When we arrived into the room the room was DIRTY! Not like a little dirty. Dirty like someone had checked out 5 minutes prior. So I tell her. Ok I will step out so you guys can clean the room and we will come back. She's like oh there's no one here. I'm just going to get some clean sheets for you guys. So you mean to tell me that you don't have HOUSEKEEPING on grounds for check ins and no one cleans the rooms when ppl check out at 12p. We checked in at 5p and didn't get into the room until 6:40p with all the nonsense in between. I'm disgusted with this place and will never go back. Don't waste your time and money. It's a piece of shit. Staff is snobby and racists. Honestly I'm sure if we were white we would of been treated with more respect. We ended up checking out moments later and getting a full refund. Don't wast your time please.

Overall had a poor experience at the castle. We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The only amenity is the continental style breakfast, which is nothing to write home about. We had a spa reservation and we were not informed during check in that the spa had closed. We found out when we entered the spa with "spa closed" signed. When we asked the front desk there was hardly an apology. We were also then informed the restaurant was also closed at that time. The room and grounds are beautiful however not worth the price of the experience. Would not recommend for anyone to stay here.

Can not believe the good reviews. We were there for 2 nights in a suite. There were so many problems with the room that we asked to be moved, but they said that they couldn't accommodate us. Here are the highlights: Bedroom was uncomfortably hot when we arrived - thermometer said 86 degrees- so we turned on the a/c....only there was no a/c. One radiator blew fan air, but the air coming out of the other was so hot that you couldn't put your hand on it. Called client services...but no one answered. Had to run downstairs to find someone. Maintenance was sent up...said that they would do something and then come back in a half hour to make sure that the room temperature would be able to be adjusted at that point. Two hours later we finally gave up waiting and went to dinner. Back to an uncomfortably hot room. Called for maintenance again...and opened all the windows to try and cool the room off. Of course- there were no screens on the windows. Then we waited afraid to get undressed and comfortable. Maintenance never showed . Asked to be transferred to another room the next day...was told a manager would speak to us. Of course- never heard from anyone. Living room was cold because of the open windows...bedroom still over-hot. All in all very unpleasant. Then for the bathroom...floor was filthy. Shower nice...had 3 dispensers. One for shampoo...one for conditioner...one for soap. No soap in the one for soap. No water pressure in the sink in the bathroom. One of the 2 lightbulbs in the bathroom had burned out. Again...no answer at client services so had to run down to find someone. Maintenance did come right up. Removed the burned out lightbulb -- which caused sparks to fly. Was told that putting another bulb in without rewiring would be a fire hazard. Couldn't get the television in the bedroom to work. The bed was actually very comfortable - but none of the other furniture was comfortable to sit on. Most of the staff were very nice- unfortunately there were very limited hours when there was actually staff. Then we were hoping to be able to use the spa services...only to be informed that they had to shut the spa down a few days before...have no idea why. And the gourmet restaurant on the property... was told that it would not be opened during our stay because it was not getting enough business. None of this disclosed to me when I made the reservation. And - cute little bottles of mouthwash, etc. by the second sink. Unfortunately none were sealed. It was obvious that they were refilled and not replaced after previous guests used them. Not very hygienic. Since nothing was as promised- I asked to be compensate. Was told that I would...never heard from any manager again. So - a very unpleasant stay and not the romantic getaway that we had planned for weeks.

My daughter's wedding was held there in October, and it was a nightmare. We booked with them a year prior to the wedding and at the date of the wedding the hotel was on its third management. 1. Our block of rooms was given away numerous times. At one point, they said that all our rooms were booked by our guests, and they were not. 2. When I tried to call various times to book my room, I got a recording that no one was at the front desk, and it was after hours. Didn't know that after hours started at 2:30 in the afternoon. 3. My daughter's suite had issues with the air conditioning, so the room was at a constant 78 degrees. They offered on the day of the wedding to bring in a window unit, but this was offered 2 hours before the ceremony when people were getting ready, and photos were being taken. We had to settle for one fan. 4. It was an outdoor ceremony and an hour before the ceremony there were no chairs set up. 5. One person was told that they could give her frozen peas and carrots for a vegetarian meal as the wait staff was not told that there were some special plates ordered. 6. The reception hall also had issues with the air conditioning. People were standing in front of the window unit to cool off. I could go on, but you got the idea. I have gotten better service at a Holiday Inn than this so-called high -end hotel. Do yourself a favor, and book anywhere else than The Castle Hotel and Spa.

If you are looking for an exceptional spa experience, look no further. The customer service is outstanding and the massage was phenomenal. I received my massage by Blanca. The service was so good that I ask to extended my massage. Treat yourself to the 80 minute massage. It's worth every dollar!

Such a beautiful place & the staff is very hospitable! The food at the restaurant was excellent, Michelin rated for a reason!! Definitely give it a try, even if you don't stay at the hotel. The spa is quaint and perfect!

I used to frequent this restaurant in the 19802 and up to 2010. Ever since Norman Bates took over the management it appears the ambience has declined from prior times.

What a wonderful place this. One of the nicest places that we have ever stayed at and we have stayed at some pretty spectacular resorts and five star hotels all over the world. Ambiance is everything and staff and service is just fantastic. The grounds are well kept and everything was just great. I highly recommend this place for a nice weekend getaway.

So incredibly disappointed by our most recent visit to the Castle. We have been going there for special occasions for 19 years, since we spent our wedding night there. The restaurant Equus was always amazing. The food, the staff, the ambiance. Wonderful for dinner and their brunches were out of this world. We noticed a difference when it was sold to a Japanese hotel group in 2013, but it was still great. This time was so depressing. The restaurant is only open on Fridays and Saturdays. No more that 15 guests. The menu was prix fix. If you didn't like the course, no substitutions or alternatives. Strange choices. Jalapeño in almost everything. And $150/person. The place looks deserted and not the gorgeous place we remember. The company seems to be using Covid as an excuse, but other restaurants and spas have opened back up. I do want to say that Alex, the only staff in the entire restaurant is wonderful and attentive. He was the best thing about the visit. Bring back the old Equus & Castle. It was so special.

Was traveling through NY and decided to book a room for a night. Disappointed that the restaurant and spa were closed but we intended to stay only for a night. Wound up having a great experience. Wanted to stay another night but they are closed on Mondays (a little odd but I guess Covid has really caused problems). The room was great- large, soft beds, very nice. Beautiful place and grounds. Pool area was nice but we didn't have bathing suits. We would have been the only ones in the pool. Relaxing atmosphere. Grab and go breakfast could have been better but the room overlooked the Hudson- beautiful! The staff was great and attended to a couple of items with speed. Gave us a tour of the Castle- sort of a museum itself. Bit expensive but well worth it. Memorable experience. Wish we could have stayed another night.

Pool is decent hot tub is decent but the food is terrible. Ordered an heir loom salad and arugula looks like it was from last week. Presentation of the food was so basic. You would think tor cost of day passes you would get at least average food! To top it off when was sitting eating turned and foot went under chair melted gum went all over my foot!!!

We went for a special occasion dinner. A very pleasant dining experience right from the valet parking (where they already had our reservation info!) up until the end of the evening where they remembered the special occasion we were celebrating. Gracious, attentive staff. Great ambiance and excellent food. We were immediately seated and served with champagne while we waited for regular menus and wine lists. The staff was attentive and well versed with the new menu, wine list and ready with appropriate suggestions. The pâté and the trumpet mushrooms are a must have! We had a steak and lobster entree which was excellent. So lovely to have Equus in the neighborhood!

Beautiful hotel with magnificent view. The room is definitely a 5 star quality. I gave 4 stars instead of 5, because the breakfast is lacking, some bread and pastries. The sandwiches (the only item containing protein) were gone at 9 am. I requested for more. They brought in another tray with only 8 sandwiches which were gone immediately. Besides that, we enjoyed the time at the castle hotel and its surroundings.

Not my normal choice of stay, but went along with it anyway. Upon arriving, you get a glimpse of the beautiful, maintained property, as you drive up to the reception. From there you get the best view of the castle (in my opinion) and a gorgeous fountain in the center. Vallet is free. Obviously, you are staying here for the unique castle experience and that is what you get for the most part. The lobby gives you a good feel of royal elegance and the experience gets even better as you peek into the grand dining room! The halls are decorated with tapestry and large paintings with exaggerated frames. I can't say they have gone completely all out in terms of royalty with interior but hallways are clean and no sign of muskiness. You will encounter many furnishings that have that kind of antique royal flair. Rooms are spacious and beautiful and the beds are luxurious and comfy and coming in, there was music playing and that was a nice touch. The bathroom isn't updated but still very nice. What's nice is that whatever's in the mini fridge is free, according to the concierge, who by the way, were very nice and welcoming, as expected. The rest of the property is very quaint with gardens and statues and tree lighting. Fancy pool area! Secluded and equipped with a bar. The only downside is they close very early, tonight they close it at 6pm but I have a feeling they do this because of events. Overall this place is charming, beautifully maintained, and a comfortable stay. I don't have anything to say about the dining experience but I bet Castle does a fantastic job at hosting weddings.

The Castle is such a romantic wedding venue! My friend , who had locked in her wedding date over a year in advance, had the misfortune of Hurricane Irene gracing us with her presence (sigh...you can't predict mother nature)! The staff had her move her wedding indoors and 4 hours ahead of the planned schedule, leaving the bride to notify all guests a day in advance of the changes. (Can't really blame them....I'm sure they were concerned about the guests' safety as well as their staff's safety getting home in time). We arrived at the Castle and were amazed....it really did look like a storybook castle. Too bad the weather wasn't better, as we would have loved to go exploring around the grounds. They looked very lush and green even in the icky weather. The food and service was amazing! Props to the bride, who is a vegetarian, but selected a wide array of hors d'ourvres. At the top of the list was by far the mushroom risotto (mmmm, I'm salivating just thinking about the creamy goodness mixed with the perfect amount of parm cheese and wild mushrooms), followed by the HUGE shrimp cocktail (I swear, I have never seen shrimp that big before), and mini crab cakes. In terms of "cuteness" factor, they also served these mini fish and chips that were absolutely adorable, but just tasted ok. The duck entree was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. For dessert, besides wedding cake, they offered an assortment of mini desserts. All were equally scrumptious! I hope I have the chance to go back one day and see the castle and all it has to offer in better weather. Props to the staff for keeping it together and doing a fabulous job despite the impending hurricane.

This is a special hotel because it's a castle! We came for my birthday and I am happy they gave us the extra fruit. We went to the dinner as well, the food was good but not very impressive. While the customer service was great in the dining, and they gave us champagne for free! All of those are great! The only thing that disappoints me was they charge $45 per person for jacuzzi . And it close at 6:00 PM in Sunday. We took the swimming suit for nothing... only can take a bath in the bedroom in this way. I wish they pointed out you have to pay extra money for jacuzzi for stay over. Because I thought it's free for granted .

Attended a family wedding this evening and I have to say I wasn't all that impressed with the place especially knowing how much my family spent to have a wedding here. I was impressed when I arrived to valet parking so I had high expectations already before walking in the front door. Cocktail hour was outside on the back lawn and it was great. They even had musicians playing instruments on the lawn and a full life size chess board. So far so good, the place looks great. For dinner the room looked great. Waiters however seemed to be moving around so much it seemed like we were always in their way which was frustrating. Every time we tried taking pictures, waiters were standing behind us with plates in a rush to get passed. Food wasn't great either and maybe that's because of the selection that was chosen however regardless what was chosen it should of had some kind of flavoring. When I eat at a local diner food tastes better. For what the place cost I have to say we were sorely disappointed but the place does look nice although it didn't seem all that big.

My husband and I went to Restaurant Equus for my birthday! I really loved the outdoor scenery of the castle in general and specifically, they seated us in the room with floor to ceiling windows and amazing lighting - on a gorgeous spring day! Views of the hudson river and green landscapes were beautiful. Cuisine was excellent, with a prix fixe menu that extended their brunch way into 2:00pm. Truly delicious. I recommend the spring risotto, along with the cobb salad which had a mousse of avocado (photos attached). YUM! What I mostly loved was how the waiters actually gave us time to dine and did not rush the experience at all. A+!

Truly confused with my experience this morning. I'm 39 weeks pregnant. It's been a difficult pregnancy which is while my husband brought me here for my 30th birthday. I just woke up i don't feel well. I called front desk to ask about late check out, i was told it wasn't possible. (One again very confused at this service i managed a hotel before and i currently own a spa). I asked to speak to the manager. Kimberly, the manager came in the phone and said no again after telling her i don't feel well i walk like a turtle and i just work up. She offered me ginger ale . WTH. This place is far from cheap. Check in is at 4 pm. Everyone needs to be retrained in customer service. Because this is not service. If you are pregnant don't come here.

My wife and her friends went to the Castle Hotel & Spa today for a relaxing day. The valet left sometime between noon and 2pm and took THEIR keys with HIM. It took the Castle Hotel & Spa 55 minutes to get them their keys back. And what did the hotel do? Nothing. The manager (I believe his name is Caesar) declined to do anything to compensate them for their time and the inconvenience. While a hotel should always do the right thing regardless of who the guests are, this particular situation is made worse by the fact that these are four moms who all need to get home to their kids. Baby sitters and child care providers may understand if you are 5 minutes, late. But 55 minutes is egregious. I would think that a hospitality establishment would understand customer service. To loose someone's keys for 55 minutes is unacceptable. To then tell those guests that you refuse to do anything to make it right is inexcusable. Castle Hotel & Spa, you should consider finding a better valet. And a better manager.

I first came to the Castle Hotel and Spa in April for their Casino Royale Gala and was absolutely wowed by the experience. Impeccable five course menu, open bar including top shelf champagne and vodka, casino games, professional photographer, and friendly vendors. I learned that the night was masterminded by Alison, their special events and maitre-d coordinator. *She* is what makes the castle hotel worth the price. I returned to the castle for my partner's birthday for another Alison event, a Thursday summer nights Caribbean-themed, poolside shindig. Again, a fun, boozy, tasty experience with a good DJ. When we got back in, there was a classy, chilled champagne waiting for us, chocolate covered strawberries, and the porter offered to bring us in extra minibar bottles of rum and vodka (on top of what was already in the complementary minibar of Heineken, Sprite, Coke, and water). In the morning, we had breakfast in the sunny parlor overlooking the Hudson. I stood at the window with my coffee cup and was absolutely charmed. Passing by the front desk, I requested late check out, which they were happy to accommodate and we spent the rest of the morning languidly preparing for the day in the city. My partner was as wowed by the experience as I was that first time. We're told that the castle should be like our second home and we feel like it is (if somewhat an aspirational, fantasy getaway home). Pros: -Beds were comfortable clouds with soft sheets -Shower was roomy enough to comfortably fit two people -Separate vanity area to put on makeup -Spread of magazines for local food and travel destinations -The castle and its grounds are immaculately maintained and super fun to take pictures around or just breath in the atmosphere -The breakfast parlor and the bar are both darling spaces with a lot of character Cons: -For as expensive as the rates at the castle are, I think service is just a beat behind. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating, but they don't have the caliber of service I've experienced at other top tier hotels where there's a lot of work so that one, everything is perfect and two, they are constantly asking if you need anything to make sure it is perfect. At the castle I felt like I had to make sure to be the one to ask. They didn't tell me what time check out was or when the restaurant time were, so I was constantly going back to the front desk to inquire about things. I had to request late check out and had to correct my event ticket pricing. -Breakfast was decently priced ($14 for an egg benedict) and the food was solid, but not amazing (I was wowed by the food at the events). And while I love the breakfast parlor, service was slow. The seat by the window we wanted to sit at was not cleaned and it took a long time to get our orders in and coffee poured. Overall: It's a magical experience even at its price range. And while I wouldn't stay here for a casual night, I would always be up for staying over after one of Alison's parties.

I am not sure what happened during our stay but we came for an 'experience' and the service was terribly lacking. it seemed there was a skeleton crew who were stressfully running in circles while we waited and waited and waited.....for a menu, for a drink, for the check. It was the same at breakfast the next morning. We sat for 15 minutes before someone offered a menu or cup of coffee. I felt badly for the stressed out staff but the patron, who paid for luxury, shouldn't be punished for poor management.

From the minute you pull in, the immaculately manicured grounds lead you to the breathtaking castle! We were met by the most accommodating valet, and then entered the castle. Upon entry you feel as though you are royalty. Coffee and freshly baked cookies at Check in was a pleasant surprise. Our room was spectacular! Robes and slippers, the linens, turndown service with lavender and truffles! We played chess... 3' tall pieces, which was an entertaining compliment to the grounds! Anna, the bartender, took the time to show us some of the majestic portions of the castle that we may have overlooked without her assistance. The staff was so pleasant and helpful! Our visit ended with a trip to the pool and spa! Our visit was absolutely one of the best experiences and highly recommend anyone wanting the royal treatment to stay at this castle!!!

Unfriendly staff at front desk. Neglected to call and advise that our room was ready. The room furnishings were totally ugly and nothing matched. It was just thrown together. The bathroom towels were frayed and worn out. The bathroom amenities were from a hotel in North Carolina, Occitane, Bigelow's,, and The Castle.( Quite the assortment). The pool rules were unforgettable: "No Urinating, No Feces, No Spiting, No Nose Blowing." What caliber of guests are staying at the hotel that would warrant that sign. Not us. First and last visit.
