We had a quick overnight stay using 2 rooms. Both were a great size with comfortable beds and big bathrooms one even had a bath! The breakfast was continental, which some reviews complain about. However, this is clear on the website and we found it all very acceptable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel cat was very cute. The location is perfect for a 10 minute walk into the city and free parking a bonus. We will definitely stay again.

5 minute walk into the centre and free parking, staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The room was a good size and it was better, then we expected, I took one star off as the four pillows we had were hard and uncomfortable, also there was a dirty panty liner in the bathroom bin. I thought the continental breakfast was great and lots of choices. However, arrive early, we got there at 9.30 and there was no crossaints left, no ham, 1 slice of cheese left and 2 small rolls left. However, there was Plenty of fruit, cereal, cereal bars, youguts, jams, nuts and dried fruit, Salami, and they brought out toast. We enjoyed our stay and would come again

The room we had was extremely hot and you could not turn the heating down. The bathroom floor had broken tiles which had been poorly fixed and still sharp. Please change the tiles before someone cuts their foot. The mixer tap in the bath did not work and you had to sit in the bath and hold downthe button whilst the water was running. The water is extremely hot and is dangerous. At night the pipes in the room was knocking and making noise, so you did not sleep at all. In the morning the breakfast was the worst continental breakfast ever!.. My wife never even got the toast she asked for!. As a returning customer the hotel needs maintenance and we used to get a cooked English breakfast but instead now you get an awful continental breakfast, the worst iv ever had!.

Fabulous location, free onsite parking and fantastically clean. Staff were very helpful and polite. Our room (8) was very quiet and a good size bathroom. The mattresses in our opinion could do with replacing. The continental breakfast was adequate at best. There was a great selection of cereals but most of the fruit was tinned and the selection of cheese (2) and cold meats were average 'catering' quality as were the tea bags and coffee. A slight upgrade to the quality of the breakfast ingredients would hugely improve the experience. Best features were its location, the car park and the cleanliness of the property plus the welcoming staff.

I booked a room for my mother and her partner after my cousin had a very good experience years ago. I wish I had read the reviews talking about housemaids stealing stuff. My mother found the door of their bedroom open and a banknote missing from the wallet that she had left inside the baggage. When we told the reception we were accused of lying and we even got a little revenge from the housemaid who did not make the room at all. The place is decent enough but don't leave valuables because you might never see them again. We personally don't recommend this place if you want to enjoy your time without trouble.

It's a great place to stay. We had a large, clean, comfy room with a huge bed (No 8). We enjoyed an extensive continental breakfast. The staff were all very friendly. It was a short walk to all shops and sights. Would definitely stay here again.

I, my husband and two children stayed here for one night towards the end of April for a weekend trip to Canterbury. We had the ground-floor family room immediately to the right of the entrance in the additional block - it was a fairly big room but a little tired. The window looked out onto the front car-park of the hotel which I was concerned would be a problem for privacy/visibility purposes; it turned out not to be too much of an issue but I would suggest a blind would be better than the lace curtain it's currently furnished with. The bathroom was quite small and could have done with an update, the tap was difficult to turn off and ended up dripping constantly through the night which was an obstacle to our sleep. We had to get up in the night and try to tighten it - we did mention this to Reception the next day so hopefully the issue is sorted for future guests. One positive was that our room was close to an additional bathroom off the corridor on the ground floor so we were able to use that for our children and didn't get caught up in a family queue. The bar area to the left of Reception in the main building was also very pleasant with lovely picture furnishings referencing literature and comfy sofas, a good pit-stop for planning your day in the city.|The breakfast was adequate but for the price of the accommodations I would have expected a hot, full English. We were disappointed & I'm not really sure why this can't be provided for guests? although certainly the morning shift seemed short-staffed: the tables were not cleared from the previous occupants' in prompt time and couldn't order a pot of tea easily.|Whilst the accommodation and breakfast were lacking somewhat, we did feel that the history of the hotel and the heritage of the immediate area were really intriguing and elevated the experience of staying there. The hotel is located next to the Worthgate, part of the old Roman walls surrounding the city and right opposite the main entrance are the old ruins of the Canterbury castle (unfortunately entrance is prohibited and the ruins are in disrepair, such a shame). The original building is a mixture of architectural styles and ages and can be clearly seen from the date plaques in the very pretty walled garden which is well worth visiting during your stay at the hotel. It was like an enchanted garden and our children loved exploring and climbing the stairs to the little terrace surrounding the bay window (please note they were under supervision!) The hotel is also a short walk to the beautiful John Danes Gardens and the Mound (a former Roman cemetery), a huge bonus as this is a gorgeous part of the city and very relaxing to stroll through. If you like history and places with a heritage character, you may very well prefer this hotel to another option in Canterbury.
