Castle Inn

Absolutely lovely place, great, friendly and helpful staff. A cracking roast dinner with the best crackling I've ever eaten... totally recommend. Right next to Bodium Castle, it's a fantastic location too.

After rainy day at the Bodiam Castle we had a pleasure to enjoy such an amazing dinner. Loved everything about the place. 🥰

Great looking pub, perfect for a meal, after our walk around the Castle opposite. We were able to get seating outside in the beautiful sun shine. There is a field adjacent for the kids and dogs to be entertained in while the drinks and food is being prepared and cooked. We enjoyed the burgers, Sunday roast, soup of the day and fish and chips. All very tasty and nice generous portions. As you walk into pub, the bar is straight ahead, you can't miss it. The toilets are to the left and well kept. The only let down was the person smoking around the tables, no need as there is a designated seated smoking area just up from all the tables. Also if they want to be dog friendly, there needs to be easy access to water, the only thing I saw was a pot bought out with sparkling water in it.

A gem! Open on a Monday for lunch which not all pubs are. Welcoming and attentive staff, and cozy log fire in these colder months.Very close to the castle. Dog friendly with snacks for them. Varied selection of quality meals to cater for all tastes, good size portions at a reasonable price. The brioche bread and butter pudding with custard was Amazing.👌

We were a bit concerned because the pub was full and sometimes that means long waiting times and less care in the kitchen. But everything was very good! We liked the creative menu and the availability of English wines by the glass. We enjoyed the sea bream and jerk salmon a lot. A perfect stop during a very long hike.

Great location just across from Bodiam Castle. It has a large parking lot at the back and massive garden area with benches leading to the run with views of the castle and steam train in the distance. Food me y looked really good and there is an extensive list of beers and wines. Staff was friendly and quick to help.

We were staying at a B&B 10 minutes away and took a flyer on this pub for dinner because we knew Bodiam from previous visits. We loved The Castle Inn so much we came back the following night! Wonderful, pubby space inside that manages to be "tarted up" but still authentic and without looking like a gastropub. Food (fish and chips, sticky toffee pudding, risotto with sea bream) was superb across the board, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, even to us tourists. Lots of dogs, too (a big plus in our book.)

We had a delicious lunch the other day in the lovely garden at the Castle Inn. The service was great, the food was really tasty. I had the Kofta salad, my husband had the Teriyaki Salmon, both excellent. He then enjoyed a sticky toffee pudding, whilst I had a delicious jelly with ice cream. Would definitely recommend popping in here. We will be back given half a chance.

The Castle Inn in Bodiam is a barely a cannon ball's trajectory from Bodiam Castle itself. We stopped by at this pleasant country pub, before heading to the castle itself, for a Sunday lunch. We were well pleased but hardly blown away. The place was in minor chaos with a long queue at the bar when we arrived. It was almost as if they were taken aback by the fact that people might stop by for lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon at 2. But we got there in the end. I had roast beef. I was personally disappointed that this Shepherd Neame boozer, within sight of hop farms and oasthouses, didn't serve a pint of one that brewer's sensational brown beers like Spitfire or even Masterbrew but I had to settle for Oranjeboom lager. Not much of a compromise, as it turned out. Some minor quibbles. At close to a tenner for roast, I do think the cutlery can be delivered to the table. I also don't think sachets of horseradish and mint sauce (she had the roast lamb) cut the mustard. (The mustard came in sachets too, now I think of it!). How about little ramekins of these vital condiments? Also: spuds. Three spuds is a stingy serving on a roast dinner. Let's have four or even five. It's not too much to ask. More potatoes!

Service ladies and gentlemen, that's the bonus with Castle Inn. I have loads of food allergies and the waitress, owner, and cook all immediately jumped on getting me something I could actually eat. They personally came out to work through things and were in no ways annoyed or flustered with the amount of special requests I had to make. The pub defied EU tradition and was open on a Monday to catch us tourists visiting Bodium castle. With the food you got what you payed for. I payed 12 pounds for salmon and penne that was actually quite good, but suffered a bit in the pasta department.

I have been to the Castle Inn a couple of times, it's not the most beautiful place I've ever been to. Anyhow, perhaps wrongly I say, because the place is not so pretty "One's" expectations are not so high. Now, I even feel a spot embarrassed about that, because it's what's on the plate not how pretty the place is for sure that counts. None the less I'm sure you know what I mean. Well, all balanced up, for what you pay, and what you get it's a big surprise. The foods fine, actually if I am being very fair it's probably a bit more than fine, it was actually very tasty, hot and well presented. Nothing whatsoever to complain about. I have enjoyed the food there on each occasion I have been, and have been treated well by friendly staff. Basic pub, basic ..but good food! Well done to the Castle Inn!
