Just had a one night stop over in this lovely hotel. As the name suggests, the castle is literally opposite! The hotel itself is a very beautiful old building but our room had a lovely modern twist. Recently renovated, beautifully bright and spacious. The bed and bedding very comfortable (we had a great night sleep) Our room was number 5 that looked over the back gardens. Very peaceful evening with the gentle sound of the pond trickling in the back garden. Breakfast was lovely and relaxed and the service was fab. Lovely and friendly and laid back. We would most definitely stay here again if ever in Chepstow. Thanks for a great stay 😊

Perfect! We stayed here for a gig at the castle. Could not ask for a better location, its directly opposite the castle, a public car park which is only £6.80 for 24 hours. The hotel itself is clean, bed was very very comfortable and the shower amazing. Breakfast was also perfect, freshly cooked and plenty of it. The staff are friendly and helpful. Definitely stay again. Highly recommended

Called in here for morning coffee and scones. A delightful little dining room at the front of the hotel serving breakfast and lunch. The coffee was very good and the homemade scones absolutely delicious. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. They bought the hotel only a year ago and have been busy in that time with major renovations. Next time we’re in Chepstow we shall certainly return there for lunch next time.

This place should be closed down on several issues. As an ex Hotelier I know what basic standard are. This hotel met not one of them for me. The building is old, can't hide that fact and it's location is lovely and it has so much potential. We were there for the races. We managed the keyless system, not very personal in my opinion. Went to our room, instantly it was boiling hot, not windows would open. The bath mat was stained and dirty and the bin was full of used sanitary products, bath not clean, checked the sheets, they did look clean. The door to the room didn't fit properly and someone tried to get in during the night. |Restless night due to the heat and up super early for breakfast. Someone had bought back Indian takeaway and ate it in the lounge leaving the remains on the coffee table, grim to see first thing. |Went to the restaurant, eventually got asked what we would like for breakfast either full English or eggs, fine ordered one of each, only two other couples in the restaurant when we arrived. Had a tea and coffee and glass of juice, dinning room quite nice with a nice feeling and a bit of effort put in. We waited for over half an hour wen I asked how long it would take. The waitress had clearly forgotten and said it would take another 15 minutes or so, we could not wait any longer as we had to get back to Somerset. She just flippantly said ok and of we went. |The carpets and hallway were in such a terrible state, actually threadbare and dangerous I caught my heel in one bit on the stairs. This place is an accident waiting to happen. Impersonal hand written note with instructions. |Maybe if the Hotelier was present we could have addressed the issues, but then again when money is taken upfront and they are not present it feels like they are literally robbing you of money. You do not get what is promised and what you think you are paying for. This is the worst place I have ever stayed and I've travelled extensively. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It's ultimately unclean and unsafe and should be closed down. |This is the first time I've ever left a review I was so appalled.

Attending Chepstow Show to return trophy so had dogs with me. I would have liked to give a 5* rating in fact I think it deserves 4.9*. This is because in terms of service, staff helpfulness, food, drink, location with free parking and unexpected garden setting this hotel is excellent. I could not give the extra 0.01* however because although the en-suite room was spacious and quiet and the bed comfortable, I had problems with operating the shower, the blinds and window opening. The hotel is in a Catch 22 situation as it needs custom to update and maintain rooms but few know how good it is looking at it from the outside which needs a refresh

We visited this beautiful area 3 years ago to see friends & stayed in the same hotel.|Talk about a Jekyll & Hyde difference, from very good to bad.||The owner had to come out after we couldn’t access the impersonal key code to get in.|We then had to listen to how much he’d spent on the property after it falling into disrepair from being owned & managed poorly by previous owners.|Then he needed to look at which room we were allocated|We were already late for the party for our friends!||He then rushed off without showing us to our room or staying around to check if everything was ok?!||We struggled up to the attic, I have a bad back & truly struggled whilst my partner tried to carry the luggage|God knows what a disabled or elderly person would do.|The room was roasting|We called Colin straight away & said we wanted to change rooms & needed a fan|He came back to then tell us /bore us, about other guests who had complained earlier & that he couldn’t move us even though I struggled with the stairs as all rooms had been allocated.|He did get us a fan, which,to be honest should be in every room this weather with no aircon!|Room old, very dated, broken windows, zero pleasant touches in the room|And the carpet around the hotel & in our room was dangerous & disgusting.|The money they charge for this room at £96 is laughable.|Bed & pillows cheap & uncomfortable |This cannot be described a hotel.|I don’t like leaving bad reviews so I will end on a slightly better note|The cooked breakfast was nice.|But, only 1 lady & her young son serving|No fresh fruit or fruit|Juice, just orange or mixed fruit Tesco squash which comes with instructions to not drink neat?!|Only 2 cereals in Tupperware Alpen & Cornflakes!|No pastries or yoghurts.|There’s zero nice touches & no music and no atmosphere.|First time in Chepstow we felt unwelcome & people were not friendly!||Sadly we wouldn’t come back to this place|But love Chepstow so will need to find somewhere else!

We booked in to this hotel for a 2 night stay. We had stayed here over 20 years ago and it was the first holiday we had together. In the those years it has obviously undergone some changes and the current owners are spending a lot of money to renovate it. A labour of love. Our room was excellent - very comfortable with a view to the castle. There was a bit of trouble with the draining of the water from the basin, but our call about this was answered promptly and it didn't detract from our holiday. Some instructions on how to work the television would have been helpful for us technophobes. Entrance was gained by lock codes (which were sent to us by text) and key boxes which worked really well. The owner was in charge of the breakfasts and he was lovely, although a little distracted as he didn't usually do the breakfasts. However they came in a timely manner and were good, with a veggie option. It was interesting to talk to him about all the changes, and he should be proud of the work that he has already done. Although it's still a work in progress I'm sure once complete the place will be excellent and is already a good place to stay and marvellous value for money. We would be happy to go back, although we'll try not to leave it another 20 years.

A poor start got worse.||I’m not a fan of absentee hosts. I don’t expect there to be door codes and key safes when a place is advertised as an hotel. I expect there to be someone on reception to deal with the little problems that might arise. ||And the big ones. ||The first big problem was that the room had been double-booked. The other people were already in the room when we arrived. They were very gracious and let us have the room on the grounds that we booked it about six weeks before they did. The proprietors were in Mallorca. ||We are in Room 14. The biggest problem is that you cannot open the door from the inside. There is a fault with the Yale lock. I eventually managed to open the door by using two hands. I shudder to think what would happen if there was a fire in the night. ||The general level of cleanliness is pretty skanky. There could well be mildew around the place, the carpet is stained and the room has a stale smell about it. ||There are some good points, but they are all to do with the location. Chepstow is lovely. The Panevino Italian restaurant across the road is great. And there is a car park immediately opposite with electric car charging points and we’ve taken advantage of that. But it’s such a shame that the hotel best placed to take advantage of all that is such a dive.

Stayed here to greet my friends returning from their epic walk along Offa's Dyke. It was a last minute booking, and they were helpful and booked me in easily, with just a name and phone number required "as it was a late booking". The room had everything it needed, we actually had a family room, so it had a couple of beds surplus to our requirements. The room was slightly quirky... the whole floor on a slant, so I felt like I was tipped up when lying in bed. The mattress was well worn, you could feel the springs, and it had definite dents where previous occupants had sat on the side of the bed - I felt like I was going to roll out in the night!!! The bathroom had an equally uneven floor, and the shower was under the eaves, meaning anyone over 5'7" would struggle to get their head under the water! The shower pressure and temperature were great though. Breakfast is included in the price. But is disappointingly only served between 8am and 9am - even on a Sunday! Service was hit and miss, we had to ask for bowls for our cereal, and sauces for our cooked breakfast. Tea for hangover-sufferers should have been a bit more forthcoming too - but I guess that they didn't appreciate us coming to breakfast at 8.55am! Overall - did the job for somewhere to stay in Chepstow, great view of the castle, but breakfast hours and old mattress let it down. Parking is available in the public carpark for the castle opposite. and is free after 5pm Mon-Sat and all day Sunday.
