Castlemaine Colonial Motel

Warning! Cancellation and refund policies unclear and unfair. Booked and prepaid in full for 2 nights, had to cancel 5 days before due to unforeseen circumstances and was refused any refund or an alternative date. Cost us $368 to not receive any service and it’s likely our room was booked to other customers. Could not find this policy anywhere on-line and it was not mentioned on the phone when we booked or we cancelled. Very disappointing and expensive - feel very ripped off. Will never stay there or recommend. At the very least should have been offered to transfer the pre-payment to another date in the future but they instead just took our money. Terrible customer service. Don’t stay there and take the risk if you need to change your mind.

Staff (2 ladies) are exceptionally rude, arrogant and everything seemed to be an effort. Toilet wouldn't flush and after requesting it to be fixed 3 times it was still not addressed, linen was appauling, and NO breakfast provided as stated in booking even though confirmed way before cut of. We will be contacting to the appropriate authorities and request a full audit of this premises including staff legitimacy records and recommend actions be taken over the horrendous conditions this establishment operates under. HORRIFIC to say the least! 🤯👿

Stay booked for 4 days over Christmas. We are both over 80 and a bit doddery. We must have been allocated the last room but totally unsuited to our needs. Steps up to door with no guide rail to hang onto, very dangerous. Husband fell once on the steps. Shower base very slippery used hand towel on base as no rubber mat. Doona not in cover properly and doona poorly inserted into it. Very dangerous suitcase rack as it protruded out from bedside chest resulting in my husband tripping and falling heavily. No room service and only 2 towels for the 4 days, one with large hole in it. No milk plenty of tea bags and coffee but no pods for machine and being Christmas no shops open to get any. No light at front outside door and only found the lights in the church entry on the last night. If it weren't for the fact that it was Christmas and too late to change our booking i would not have stayed at this motel. Very poor experience.

Stayed 2 nights. Toilet flush needed special procedure. Reading light above seating area didn’t work. Asked for light to be fixed. Didn’t happen. Room service equals new towels nothing else. General maintenance Extremely poor.

By far THE WORST experience of our lives. We spoke to friends in the town who know the female couple that run establishment, apparently an off the books - under the table deal so that explains the abhorent attitude and filthiness of this place. What a waste of a what could be a profitable establishment. REPORTING to ACCC.

Great location, within walking distance to the main part of town. Clean, tidy room, comfy bed, blockout blinds, nice toiletries. Minor thing was that we stayed for two nights and only had enough milk for one day. Great little cafe, ‘Blackbird’, for breakfast just up the road.

Clean quiet. Could not get reception for any issues...rang twice n went to office not open. No milk had to go to shop. Barely enough sugar n tea. A real shame could be a top notch place with more attention.

The good parts first - great location close to town centre. The room was clean and bright. The bed comfortable. The bathroom had been renovated and the shower was great. The staff were friendly and courteous. The other parts, and this was a big one for us - The toilet didn't flush! The young lady in reception couldn't get it to work but assured us that someone would look at it while we were out. We returned around 10pm and it hadn't been fixed. We made a phone call and another staff member arrived. Of course she was able to get it to flush and told us what to do. Unfortunately we were not able to get it to flush again. Very frustrating and stressful. The other minor negative was no milk in the fridge which we didn't realise until we returned at night. Disappointing as we would have returned to this motel in the future but not unless the toilet issues are fixed!
