Castlemartyr Resort (County Cork, Ireland) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Set on 220 acres of parkland amid the woodlands of East Cork, Castlemartyr Resort is a genuinely unique luxury escape: an 18th-century manor house, expanded and adapted to 21st-century hospitality, right next door to the ruins of a 13th-century Templar castle. This level of luxury is uncommon in Ireland, and this depth of character is uncommon in luxury resorts no matter the location." - Tablet Hotels

An overall good stay, a good deal for 2 nights and 1 dinner, however not a "luxury" experience as marketed. ||Beautiful grounds, we enjoyed walking around the gardens, cycling, the food and drinks were lovely in all the restaurants. The staff at the front door were very pleasant and we were even sent up a complimentary dessert to celebrate our anniversary- a very thoughtful touch. Our dinner in Canopy was absolutely beautiful- amazing food, great portion sizes and a bargain for 3 courses. ||We did however request our room to be turned down at around 2pm our second day (as we had ordered room service the night before and I wanted the trays removed). We were told cleaners would be around at 3pm, so we left the room at 3 to go to the pool, around 4.30 we returned and the cleaners had not come by yet. I decided to hop in the shower and just as I finished, the cleaners arrived. We asked the cleaners to wait 5 minutes so I could put some fresh clothes on as I was still in my gown at this point after the shower- which was met with a very unfriendly attitude from the cleaner. We promptly left the room and noticed the cleaner had skipped our room to do the one opposite us first. Which is totally fine however it meant our room was not cleaned until around 5.45- which is a very late turn down service, and left us rushing to get ready before our dinner reservation. I understand the time pressure the cleaning staff face however her unfriendly attitude towards us left quite a bad impression- certainly not a 5 star resort experience. ||The spa facilities were a bit of a let down, just quite dated the steam room was out of service. ||Overall an enjoyable weekend, and a good deal for 2 nights away- but certainly not a 'luxury' experience as marketed.

From start to finish it was one of the best trips away and experience I ever had. |From Trevor the manager down too people at reception every single person was so lovely and friendly. Hands down the best hotel and service me and my partner have ever had! Highly recommend and will 100% be back. Thanks again Trevor and staff 👍

The grounds are gorgeous, the hotel is fab, their food is amazing, and the staff couldn't be nicer. Their allround professional, helpful and friendly ethos made our stay at the Castlemartyr one we will remember fondly. All of our wedding party agreed that the staff were just outstanding.

What can I say. What a wonderful hotel. We attended a wedding yesterday. The food was spectacular. The staff were brilliant. The location is amazing. Can't find any fault.

I was considering joining the Castlemartyr leisure centre but given the reviews on here, I’m guessing that I would be better joining another pool and gym. Such a pity for a 5 star hotel that no money has been invested into its leisure facilities. I would appreciate if management could respond as to whether there are plans for improvement to cleanliness and things working.

I spent 3 nights here and the hotel is a beautiful spot to visit, especially if you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy R&R. The rooms are spacious, clean and air conditioned, comfortable king size beds, nice sized smart TV to kick back and watched your favourite apps on. The staff were friendly and accommodating with several restaurant's on site and nearby for tou to choose from for food. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would recommend Castlemartyr Resort highly as a place to visit.

My partner & I stayed for 2 nights midweek. The room was beautiful, spacious, & very clean. We booked dinner on our 2nd night in canopy restaurant which was very nice.| We went to the pub in the village which is hotel owned, the staff were so unhelpful & the pub needs a good clean. The food was not great either. |The leisure centre is ok. No jacuzzi or steam room working. We were informed by members that the jacuzzi has not been working for months. Not 5star standard! Changing rooms were not well kept. |We tried to have a cocktail with our lunch at the bar, to be told there was no alcohol served until 5pm & after our dinner that night all bars were closed at 10pm. |Poor standard overall for a 5 star & definitely would not recommend to friends.

I stayed in room 122, which was a beautiful suite for my Birthday in October 2025. Having stayed in the Castlemartyr on a few occasions in the past. The reception in the Manor House has moved to nearer the car park. The female staff at Reception are so awful, no friendly welcoming smiles, no speech at all, so robotic and they look so unhappy to be there. Lars don't be so obvious about looking for a tip, obvious much when you don't assist with a bag when we checked out. The Bell Tower Restaurant is all changed, it's awful looking now, horrible ugly decor and totally different to what it was and it no longer serves breakfast or afternoon tea but Michelin ⭐ food. The Canopy Restaurant and Bar are terrible, Elaine that works there is fabulous, except to be waiting a long time for your food and don't sit near the piano as it's very cold. Knights Bar is still there thankfully, it's so divine however, you can not get food there any longer, Coran and Yawerk are so lovely. Myself and my sister won't be ever returning to the Castlemartyr. We couldn't wait to check out. We are well used to staying in 5 star fabulous amazing hotels like The K Club, The Hayfield Manor, The Negresco, The Cliff House Hotel, The Winter Palace Hotel, The Westbury and many more and I have to say that to me now the Castlemartyr has gone too modern and the new section is awful I give that 1 ⭐ and the Old Manor side of the Hotel was a luxury 5 star ⭐ experience for sure . Why change it when it worked, such a shame.

Yelp
Hotel is 4 stars, experience was 3 stars. The resort itself is beautiful, but our check-in experience was frustrating. I had emailed to let them know what time we would be arriving and they said they'd make note of it but couldn't guarantee anything. We arrived around 12:30 pm, after an all night flight from Boston with a layover in Paris + jet lag + a 5 year old who hadn't slept. Check-in is at 3, we're told that they'll get us into the room as soon as possible. No problem. We left our luggage at reception and went for a walk around the grounds and afternoon tea. We come back around 2 to sit in reception and wait... we're fine with waiting except it's not yet 3 and other guests are arriving, checking-in and going to their rooms. Now, we start to get a bit frustrated. We continue to wait and watch others be shown to their rooms. We decide to inquire and the staff notice that we're unhappy and around 2:45 they say we can go to our room. Unfortunately, when we get there the room isn't ready and the poor guy cleaning/setting up is beside himself trying to do it as fast as possible while we awkwardly wait in the hall. The room, a superior deluxe room, is nice, but dated. The cot for our daughter wasn't properly set up and sank in the middle. The grounds are lovely, food is ok, though we did have one extraordinary meal at Terre. It was a nice stay but didn't feel 5 stars at all.

Yelp
The easiest way to describe this whimsical accommodation is a hotel nesting in an art gallery. With stunning pieces of local sourced art and picture perfect architecture this is truly a perfect place to visit. From our check in to our check out I had no complaints. Rooted in a historical estate my room had a great view facing the clearing where horses and sheep wandered. The room was spotless with a castle like interior and outfit with modern technology. The staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the space. Overall the experience was unlike anything I have experienced.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of eating at Terre and it was a wonderful stop. We like to visit Michelin starred places to dine and this was a great addition to the collection. The meal at Terre is served in courses in different rooms. We began with champagne in the drawing room. Lovely. All diners begin with a tour. Very theatric in a fun way. The 20 course meal was well done. We left satisfied but not stuffed. All courses were innovative. No losers. Major yum. We had the pleasure of an art exhibition at the resort that included a Salvador Dali sculpture. A really pleasant surprise. The grounds of the resort are stunning. Built around an old castle and a newer manor house built in the 1200s, the entire resort is a wonderful combination of old works charm with new appointments. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Exceeds expectations in every way. This historic property is more magnificent than the photos can reveal. There are whimsical touches everywhere and the rooms are so elegant. I am in love with the design and decor of this resort as much as the lovely friendly people who work here. It really is a destination in itself although there is plenty to experience off the property as well. Try the afternoon tea which includes gluten free options. wander the gardens, walk through the forested grounds, sit on the terrace or in the living room and enjoy a book or play a game of chess right in front of the old ruins at the edge of the property and enjoy the spa with an appointment. The art installations by local artists are top quality, as is the level of service everywhere on the property. This is a location not to be missed in Cork.

Yelp
amazing, fantastic, I spent my birthday and Mother's Day here. Couldn't imagine a better location. The staff is wonderful, the property is absolutely beautiful. We paid twice as much at a hotel close to the airport, get that it was close to the airport in dublin, but that hotel was pricey and sucked. I wished I was back at Castlemartyr. I will be going back . . . as soon as possible.

Yelp
This resort is amazing beyond words. My group of 4 stayed here as we toured around the bottom half of Ireland. Castlemartyr was beyond our expectations. Lovely staff all around, very accommodating and knowledgeable. There are so many different parts to explore and explain. A portion of the main hotel section was being remodeled when we were there but did not limit our stay. the hotel section is gorgeous, rooms were immaculate and spacious, and the restaurants were delicious. the bar had a wide variety of offerings. The spa and pool are indoor with a beautiful glass wall to look upon the lush green grounds. The garden is immense and there were ruins to explore and quite a bit of hiking trails. They have a golf course as well. We stayed one day in the hotel and then the rest of our stay was in the lodge areas. The lodges are similar to mini homes with everything available. I loved the heating racks in the bathrooms, the glass wall to look out, and the expansive size of the lodges. A convenient option is the resort vehicle that will take you to and from the local bar, Hunted Hog. Beautiful location, history, people, rooms, and service. Beautiful spot for a wedding. Would love to go back. People to note: Gerald, Michael, Marisa, and Paul

Yelp
The absolute best place to stay! The staff is so accommodating and friendly. The grounds are absolutely incredible. We had dinner at the new restaurant Terre and it was hands down the best meal of my life. We will 100% be back to this property and will recommend to friends.

Yelp
Absolutely blown away by the beauty of this resort! They have every last detail worked out here. I loved that the shades and lights were all remote controlled from the bedside. The bedding was fabulous. The view of the horses grazing was breath taking. There are 2 restaurants and a bar on site. There's also an old castle looking building that is lit up at night. We loved lounging around here!

Yelp
Wow Wow Wow!! This hotel and spa is unbelievable and an absolute experience. I was here a about 6 years ago for a wedding, but didn't get to avail of all the facilities. Firstly, they welcomed me back, even though I didn't mention I had stayed pervious, they help you with your bags, valet parking, the guest relations manager walks you to your room and introduces you to staff members, shows you all the areas and how to get there and talks you through everything in the room. They gave us a jar of sweets and a card welcoming us back to the resort, and also it was my birthday, they delivered a card to the spa, which was super thoughtful, and also a surprise desert after dinner. The spa is heaven, I was fortunate to have a massage and a facial on two separate days, and use the relaxing areas with the sauna, steam room, jet bath area too. After each treatment you are given a home made granola bar, fresh fruit skewer and home made smoothie. The therapists and the treatments were amazing. I could keep writing and writing about this hotel, from the staff, all the tiny little details, the food (wow the food!!), the surroundings itself, EVERYTHING!! I can not flaw this hotel at all, it is 100% perfection.

Yelp
I am very glad we stayed here. The rooms had to be some of the largest in the entire country! You couldn't find anything wrong with them if you tried. I enjoyed the rain shower and the large soaking tub. There is so much to see at this property - it is an immaculate setting with interesting decorative pieces here and there. Our room was in the back near where the golfers pull up and it was beautiful as is the entire grounds. We even had a view of the ocean in the distance. I am so disappointed that we did not get to use the spa. Book early because they were full even on a weekday. I have to mention that there were some downsides to our stay that I imagine are often repeated. We were going to use the pool, but we saw that there were children using it after the posted hours for children, and the way the children on this entire property acted, I preferred not to even try. The bar was a beautiful place to have a drink and sit and the bartenders are into crafting cocktails, but you must know that our drinks were TWENTY FIVE EURO EACH!!! WTF! All I had was a Hendricks gin and tonic! There was a wedding reception party that took over the second night we were there. This resulted in many children running up and down the hallways on the first floor for literally hours, some of which are hardwood. I felt sorry for those whose rooms they ran in front of. We went back and forth to our room to dinner, from dinner, to the bar, to the courtyard, etc. for several hours, and each time there were at least two children doing this. At one point, they were running up behind us and I was afraid someone would knock us down. It was an unfortunate black mark and some wouldn't blame the hotel, but you need to know that it is quite family friendly and kids seem to be allowed to do whatever their parents allow, in case that sort of thing bothers you.

Yelp
Most unhelpful front desk staff I've ever encountered- promises of call backs that are never fulfilled. We stayed for 34 days - this was our temp accommodation after relocating from US. Had to move from lodge to hotel and back again. Each move required us to wait with pets, children and luggage to check back in for hours. The junior suite was next to the wedding venue so we had 2 nights of being next to a loud party until 2am and hearing drunk wedding guests loudly going past our room. The mini courtyard stinks from being next to smokers in the evening. Beautiful location and prob great for a short break but our experience has not been positive and I would not recommend.

Yelp
Went here for afternoon tea to celebrate my Mom's birthday. We used to go for afternoon tea here a lot a few years ago but hadn't been back since. The afternoon tea was amazing! We were given a complimentary 'sweet treat' to start off- I've never tasted anything like it! Beautiful food - we were stuffed before we could even get to the desert course! Lol Special thanks to Tara who looked after us so well! She helped to make the occasion even more special!

Yelp
Outstanding, beautiful, comfy resort right near Cork, a short drive from Blarney Castle. Rooms are spacious and modern, and the food is sensational. Staff is friendly, helpful and attentive, and they have a wonderful indoor pool as well as a nice full gym (and spa). Overall an excellent experience, and the food (in particular) is top notch. An all around 5-Star experience!

Yelp
This place was a beautiful hotel and was very clean abiding but covid guidelines. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms were amazing. Breakfast was delicious as well. But what made this resort (and the reason I'll for sure be back to Ireland) was the event manager Chris Harold. If perfection existed it's him and if the resort could get a 6* rating it would be because of him. He was literally the most helpful and accommodating person but he genuinely cared about our experience. Top notch service is an understatement!! Chris pulled strings to get us reservations that normally are made weeks/months in advance. Chris not only helped us during our stay but stayed in contact for the rest of our vacation ensuring we had everything we needed to include sending a personalized hand written note on our wedding day!! (Which took place 2.5 hours north of his resort) it's people like Chris that restores faith in humanity and if anyone needs a place to stay I'd recommend this place 10/10 because of how mind-blowingly amazing he was!! The resort truly has great staff and made our entire vacation!!

Yelp
One word.. Heaven. Love this hotel has to be my favourite place to stay in Ireland. 1. Bell tower restaurant is Michelin star grade food 2. Service is second to none 3. Leisure centre is very relaxing 4. SPA is heaven in a stick, relaxation room is so peaceful and no pressure on you to leave. Selection of treatments is great 5. Rooms are massive and very comfie 6. Cork city and English market is 25min away 7. Beach is 10min drive away 8. Bar is relaxing and has great live music with house band on Fridays 9. You can walk the dogs around the lovely grounds. 10. Quite family friendly hotel

Sarah B.

Yelp
The hotel is lovely. And so was the room. The customer service was great. My partner was on crutches and they got a wheel chair for him. But what let them down was, breakfast. The egg was like jelly and the rashers had no colour to them. The dining room was a bit dated.

Catherine B.

Yelp
We decided to stay here for one night as part of our tour of Ireland. The location is fairly obscure but there is no doubt that the grounds are absolutely beautiful. The location includes acres of green farmland (with horses) and a beautifully renovated hotel. The rooms are very luxurious with any amenity you need. The mountain and farms views are stunning and the perfect background for morning coffee. We enjoyed dinner at the bell tower (their fine dining restaurant). Be sure to make reservations ahead of time. Afterwards we ended the night At the Knights bar which was situated on the ground floor. The bar wAs small but the seating area was very cozy with plush chairs and a fireplace. Checkout is at 12 which allowed us to enjoy a leisure breakfast in the room. Definitely recommend for a romantic weekend away. If you're looking for quiet however I would inquire if they are hosting any major events for your chosen weekend (there was a wedding going on when we went and check in was a bit chaotic). Overall great stay with friendly service.

Yelp
I can not express enough the level of customer service we experienced at this hotel. They went above and beyond for my wife and I on our honeymoon. The hotel manager carried our bags to our room for us and took the time to show us our room and all of the amenities. He then made a reservation at the restaurant so we did not have to bother with it. Also, when he found out it was our honeymoon had a beautiful dessert sent to our table that said congratulations in chocolate cursive. Amazing. My wife and I decided to have a few drinks in the hotel bar and the bar manager gave us a couple drinks and also told us congratulations. The attention that these two managers and the rest of the staff showed us was far superior than anywhere I have ever stayed. I can not express enough how great this hotel was. So good in fact we booked an extra night. Aside from the fantastic staff the grounds were beautiful and the hotel rooms were large, luxurious, and extremely clean. Definitely stay here. -Mario Charbonier

Yelp
Had conference at this castle/hotel and it went well. Spacious rooms, stunning, well kept grounds, friendly, healthy staff, plenty to do on property and a very short walk to village pubs, quick mart which was convenient. I would come back with my family! Close enough to explore Blarney Castle and Cork if you have a car - 30 minutes from Cork airport.
