"BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE!!"

PASO ROBLES CITY GUIDE
View Postcard for Castoro Cellars Vineyards & Winery

Sat. Aug. 6 This was our first time doing this, and I think we picked the perfect Winery/Vineyard. And we got the perfect server as well. The scenery was gorgeous. We sat outside, under a canopy of trees, with a beautiful view of the vineyard. It was so peaceful and relaxing. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable. He answered all our questions about the winery, vineyard, and gave us a couple of good tips on where to go for our next stop. The grapes/wine in the Paso Robles area are a little on the dry side, and not our favorite. But the flavors were amazing. This is a great place for couples or small groups to sit and relax outside in the fresh air. Oh, we bought a bottle of their Trentotto Anniversary Blend. We would definitely come back.

Amy was amazing, we were sold and signed up to be club members. Amy was super friendly and made our wine tasting very comfortable specially that it was super cold out when we arrived. Will definitely recommend Castoro - Zinfandel and Malbec were astonishing..

My partner and I visited on a Friday morning (Nov 18th) having searched Google to find a winery to visit before we left Paso Robles and we were so glad we chose this place! We didn't book in advance but that wasn't a problem as we were seen to as soon as we walked through the door. The service from Greg was amazing, we had such a fun morning trying the wines and chatting. We would highly recommend this place. The cost of the wine tasting was very reasonable when compared to others in the area and was refund after we purchased a couple of bottles.

Seriously incredible. Both servers I interacted with were amazing to talk to and a wealth of information on the vineyard. The disc golf course is gorgeous (just bring water!) And overall just makes you excited to be there. I wish I lived nearby because I'd pick up a membership and be here weekly if I was.

SerpAPI
We didn't have a chance to try the wines, we came for the disc golf course. The course is very well kept and unique! Challenging enough for those with experience and fun for beginners. You really develop an appreciation for the beauty of the area while playing this course! They have discs for rent if you didn't bring any.

Wonderful, well thought out design. Trees give nice shade for parking. Fantastic service, great tasting menu. Siblings own the winery across the road.

SerpAPI
Excellent experience. The vineyard is lovely & the setup for tasting overlooking it is picturesque. Good wine for reasonable prices. The servers are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and they pour generous servings even for tasting. Also has a pretty great annual membership deal to ship out of state especially.

Played the disc golf course and it's terrific. Was about 100 out today, so that was a challenge. Often under shade of majestic oaks. Multiple pin/basket placements on most holes. Go early on hot days, bring hydration. The winery looks very nice with a welcoming shaded patio with tables. Too hot and early to drink, but place looks first class.

Yelp
Upon a recommendation from a friend, my wife, dad, and I came here before a wedding we were to attend on a Saturday. It's a beautiful winery space, and we were glad that we could walk in and participate in one of the tastings they offer. We were welcomed by checking in at the bar inside, and we opted to sit at the covered patio space, since the weather wasn't too warm, luckily. I opted for the winemaker's flight, which featured whites and reds, including a selection from a couple grapes I haven't heard of before (Falanghina and Tannat). I appreciated how our hostess, Kathy, sat down with us to explain a bit about the history, tasting notes, and answer any questions we had about the wines, and she was kind enough to also bring out some grape juice for my pregnant wife to be included. Overall, a fantastic experience with nice views of the vineyard, and great wines too - we ended up purchasing Tempranillo, Cab Sauv, and Zinfusion to take back with us to the Bay Area to enjoy :)

Kathleen W.

Yelp
Came here upon recommendation from the stable owners we were visiting. While the rest of Paso Robles was under a massive dome of heat, the location of this winery has a lovely breeze coming in straight from the water so sitting here enjoying the view and drinking some crisp whites was perfect! They offer a white flight, red flight and a bit of both. I enjoyed several of the whites, took home multiple bottles and have already drank them all. Service was super friendly and they are dog friendly!

Harrison M.

Yelp
Just had an awesome afternoon at Castoro Cellers! The tasting area is beautiful and tranquil. Amy was extremely nice and gave us a great explanation for our first time wine tasting. They have a $20 tasting fee that gets waved if you buy a bottle over $25, which I think is a great deal! I have been here a few times previously to play their amazing disc golf course. You should definitely check this place out if you are ever in Paso!

Lori O.

Yelp
This was a planned stop for our road trip north which satisfied everyone's needs. Not only was it absolutely beautiful, the service was excellent, and it had a gorgeous disc golf course. It was pretty warm the day that we visited but there were plenty of shady spots to enjoy wine tasting. There's was a breeze, but again just so incredibly beautiful.

Adriana R.

Yelp
Parents, this is the winery for you! First, the grounds are gorgeous. We stopped by on Thursday, a very warm day, but on the outdoor patio with the canopy of trees it was perfectly fresh and relaxing. Our server was super knowledgeable and friendly. I tried the winemakers's flight, a combo of white and red wines, and enjoyed learning about them and the history of the winery. She even gave us tips for opening up our taste buds that legit changed the flavor of the wine (I've been to dozens of wineries and this was the first time getting such tips). The $20 tasting fee can be applied towards the purchase of a bottle so the Viogner I was going to take home anyway because it was so crisp and refreshing came out to $5! The experience was elevated for us because of how incredible our server was with our children (ages 5 & 9). As a former teacher, she knew exactly how to engage them. At one point she asked if she could walk them over to one of the cork trees they have and explain how corks are made. She also gave us a fun history of how the area used to be covered by sea and how whale remains have been found on the land. At the end she even had the kids hold a whale vertebra that is on display inside in the tasting room. What makes this winery even more family friendly is their Grape Juice. They brought the kids a glass (well, a plastic cup) of it to taste and I ended up taking some home. The juice has no added sugar, just the natural sweetness from the wine grapes that are used. The kids felt special participating in the tasting and we got to relax for a bit. Thank you, Castoro!

Yelp
We came by for disc golf and a wine tasting. Had a blast with disc golf on the property! The tasting was not as great unfortunately. We've been to a few other tastings around Paso Robles and we're from the Bay Area so frequent trips up to wine country, and the pours here seem to be quite stingy. There were also long lulls between pours, we could see other tables getting their pours more reasonably spaced out. There was a group at the next table that came after us and finished before us. Perhaps it's a one off...we did enjoy the grounds and learning about the various varietals and how they come through in the wine.

Arleen G.

Yelp
We love this place! The staff are all so friendly and helpful. My family enjoyed visiting the winery with us and loved the wine as much as we do.

Brian K.

Yelp
Nice spot in Paso. Really liked the Whale Rock Pinot. Sat outside on the couches overlooking the vineyards. Service was awesome, non-rushed and knowledgeable. Definitely worth stopping by for a relaxing tasting or just a glass of that awesome Pinot.

Emi G.

Yelp
Beautiful winery with a more casual vibe and lots of greenery by the seating areas. They have literal grapevines you walk through when entering from the parking lot. I don't remember receiving a food menu, and wished that maybe we had signed up for a pairing tasting if there was one. Our host/server gave us a thorough lesson on how to fully taste wine using every part of the tongue and mouth, which was really interesting and fun.

Sarah J.

Yelp
Stopped on our way into Paso and was very impressed! Didn't try too many wines but was so happy to find a purely organic winery with such a huge solar impact. The bottle and tasting prices were better than many others in the area we saw and the employees were so kind and helpful. The location is beautiful, and when it's warmer outside I hope to return. They happily welcomed my pup inside and we got to enjoy the beautiful rainbow on the way out walking out with our delicious cab :)

Laura D.

Yelp
Always a favorite. We attend the members dinner every year. Lovely evening with fellow wine lovers, delicious food and live music all free! Image my surprise when last year's musical group included my former chiropractor from Southern California. The vineyards are lovely and they really know how to throw a great party!

Tria M.

Yelp
Last minute, later afternoon stop and taste out in Paso Robles last weekend, (as it was minutes from our airbnb, and good friends in Chicago/Phoenix love their Whale Rock Zinfandel). Well...what an awesome visit!! Beautiful outdoor seating in a garden overlooking the vineyards under a pergola. Very friendly and informative service and delicious wines. Sent home a 1/2 case of their reserve Zinfusion Cabernet and have already polished off half in a week. The fact that Castoro could happily accommodate 3 of us so seamlessly (while all our other tastings were reservations made via Tock, which, while super-easy dampens any spontaneity), means I will be adding Castoro to my all time favorites and will be ordering from them again soon. As a band was setting up nearby for a members event that night, I totally get that our wine guide mentioned several hundred of their local member's come out in force for their pick up events...great venue, nice people, well done wine!

Sarah C.

Yelp
We were fortunate to get them to give us a table on their back lawn - which was perfect for our kids to play on. Our server was really kind and flexible with our kids running all over. Their wine is really solid. I particularly like the East to West blend. There was also a special reserve she brought us an extra tasting of which was quite nice. Beautiful vineyards all around.

M K.

Yelp
So, to get straight to the point, our visit to Castoro was very underwhelming. Which was disappointing. We're visiting from the Bay Area, and for context, very active in the wine industry; on both the consumer and business side. Immediately upon entering the tasting room, we noticed one of two hostesses (the woman), very engaged with two customers. Seemed like everyone in the tasting room knew each other. That's cool. No issues. But when it came to our turn, all of that engagement turned off. My partner expressed excitement with being at Castoro for the first time, and the hostess could give two shits. "Oh ok, cool. Here's our whites option. And here's our option for red." That was basically it. Damn near before the purchase finalized, she was on to the next guest, who by all appearances, she was familiar with. We were extremely disappointed with the lack of service. She didn't bother to even ask basic questions about what kind of wine we liked, where we were from, nothing. I don't expect her to get information to write our life story, but the basic customer service was lacking. It's all good though, I'm sure I'll have to opportunity to voice my displeasure in a business meeting.

Julia S.

Yelp
Amazing experience with a well educated and fun pourer making the whole experience memorable. Beautiful facility with open space and tons of views. Great wines and fun host

Sara S.

Yelp
El castor, the beaver! This is a gorgeous winery. You can definitely get some good shots for your instagram. Making a reservation was very easy as well and I do appreciate they can accommodate large groups rather easily outdoors! They had 2 tastings available for $20 each. The Beaver tasting had a few whites mixed with reds and then their Red tasting was all reds. We also played their disc golf course which was definitely a unique, fun way to burn off some calories. It's $5 each person to play and you sign a waiver. I will say that their wine was just okay. They were all pretty easy to drink but the flavors weren't memorable. We did buy a bottle of one of their whites, and I recommend trying their famous grape juice. Would come back though as it's got a very nice ambiance.

Annie L.

Yelp
I came here for a catered event. The staff was organized and professional and the food, although not particularly memorable, was well above average. Everyone in our party enjoyed the various wines served. One thing Castoro is known for is their amazing grape juice, which tastes like the grapes had just been pressed off the vine! Move over Welches!! You'll never want to go back to store-bought grape juice again after tasting Castoro grape juice! The grounds are beautiful with their abundant vines flowing with grapes. It would make a lovely backdrop for an outdoor wedding. The staff is friendly and well organized.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Beautiful winery. The entrance is beautiful and they even have an electric charger. The seatings are around the stage and views of the vineyard. The service was good and they do allow outside food in. We came here because we heard their zinfandels were great, but it fell short of being good, the zins were 3-3.5 stars. It was too sweet, like a beginning to a port. We only found one wine that we liked and it was their Primitivo. Bought several bottles... let's see how it taste at home. If you're in the area, I would suggest visiting anyway. It's a beautiful winery. Have a picnic and enjoy the views.

Janna L.

Yelp
Loved it. Got a nice bottle of their $14 Moscato (my fave) to share complete with an ice bucket. Great recommendation as each glass would have been $10. It was busy and we took a chance with no reservations but got a nice 2 top table in the shade and took in the beauty of the grounds, the live band (playing oldies) and all the people up and dancing on the grass, livng their best lives. Nice restrooms. Clean. Cornhole found at the back of the property. Lots of cute dogs, so, dog friendly. Many had big coolers with them so you can bring your own food on site. People also brought their own chairs to be closest to the band on stage. Didn't want to leave, loved it. Would be so romantic there at sundown too. Vines and vines of grapes adorn the pathway as you come and go. Will return!

Yelp
Super pretty, down-to-earth winery. We went for their Sunday local music scene and it was perfect. Not too busy, all shady and the music was great - not too loud so we could still talk at our table.

Maria J.

Yelp
This place is worth checking out. Nice, small tables on the main patio, larger "family size" tables in the back. You can enjoy the sunset over the vineyard here while sipping on your wine of choice (their selection is pretty well known, but I'd say the rose is super on a hot day). There is a very nice art gallery with multiple works by local artists right on the property - totally worth checking out! You won't really get to nerd out about wine with a member of the staff, which is why I give it 4 stars. However, if you just want a nice glass of wine (or three) with a pretty view - this place is definitely a good one to check out!

Galit G.

Yelp
A unique stunning beautiful winery. Very peaceful and romantic. The staff ,Angela was super friendly. Each wine we tasted was delicious. Next time I'm joining the wine club.

Savannah R.

Yelp
Atmosphere: This place is definitely on the list of the most beautiful places I have been in my entire life. From the hundred year old giant trees to the beautifully kept gardens, coupled with the view of the vineyards, you couldn't ask for a more tranquil setting. Our host Greg was very relaxed and welcoming, and really helped put us at ease, as this was our first ever wine tasting . They allowed us to bring our own cheese to pair with our wine flight, which was very accommodating of them. Wines: We got the beaver flight and really enjoyed our tasting experience. We ended up taking home a bottle of their rosé to enjoy on a special occasion.

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Recently visited Castoro Cellars and had a great experience with the help of Cathy who made our tasting very enjoyable. Cathy shared her experiences of the wine and background on how everything works. Very enjoyable

Stefanie S.

Yelp
we had such a fun experience wine tasting! The woman who served us gave us a tutorial on wine tasting basics, and was just so friendly and knowledgeable. The wines are great too! Will definitely be back!

jennifer w.

Yelp
So glad I took the advice of a friend and made a stop here on our way out of town. Good wines 4 stars. Great service (5 stars)He had one of the best hosts! Shari is amazing! We loved our experience and will be coming back when we can enjoy being outside.

Erika A.

Yelp
I randomly picked this place on Yelp because we had a small morning window on New Year's Eve day before we had to hit the road and Castoro was one of the earlier places that opened at 10a and was close to our hotel. Out of all of the 400 wineries in Paso Robles we could have ended up at I am so thrilled that Yelp helped us find this one! The wines were delicious (favorite being the Zinfandel). They had lots of yummy local snacks notably the frog balls (pickled brussel sprouts!) I snagged gluten free crackers, local salami and peach vinegar as my take home treats to go with my wines. It was $20 for the tasting per person but that can go towards a wine purchase at the end which we obviously chose to do! We drank the Zinfandel for New Year's Eve and saved our white to celebrate the end of dry January next month! Also notable the bottles of wine cost about half here that they do vs Napa, $25-40 range. The space was absolutely gorgeous, our sommelier was epically knowledgeable about Castoro and the area! I know there are more places to go in PR but we loved this one so much we will definitely return when we go back to PR! Highly recommend!!

Bob O.

Yelp
Not like it used to be. Standard customer service, standard pours, so-so wine. It feels like the accountants got their hands on the winery and turned it into as assembly line experience.

Mster M.

Yelp
Cathy helped us , and she was engaging in friendly. I like her energy. She gave great service. We like white wines . We tried falanghina wine and it is awesome with 20 percent of albarino . It was superb. We also tried the tango viognier and Chardonnay blend.

Kenneth R.

Yelp
Was in Paso for the weekend, decided to come check out the disc golf course. I walked up to the front counter, asking if it was possible to play a round, was immediately greeted by an incredibly rude woman who's response was "absolutely not! This is a winery we cant have you traipsing about in the mud, you'll destroy the vineyard" it had been raining that morning, and there was indeed mud, i'm sure. which is fine if it wasn't available. The attitude of this employe, as if she was talking to someone who just asked her the most ridiculous question ever, and decided to scold me like a child, instead just offering a simple, "sorry we close it when its wet outside". Do not waste your time here, Heilman park is right down the road, a beautiful course, open to the public, and I played a round in the pouring rain no problem.

Emily P.

Yelp
This is the best winery I have ever experienced! I became a member a few years ago and haven't regretted it for a moment! Their wine is fantastic and every time I go to taste the service is exceptional! Recently I went for a tasting and Tony was our server. He was magnificent! He gave us information I had never heard before about the wines. It was a fabulous experience. Whether we bring friends or come just as a couple Castoro never disappoints! E Porter

Charles B.

Yelp
Great winery. Summer concerts are very much fun. The grounds are comfortable. The cork trees are a good addition.

Rayna W.

Yelp
My boyfriend & I went to Castoro Cellars for $20 wine tasting. We got the mix of white and red wines. We really enjoyed our day out tasting. Beautiful views, excellent customer service - we loved our experience! Our favorite was the Pinot Grigio. We would definitely come back if we were back in town :)

Ava C.

Yelp
The most lovely experience! Our pourer, TONY, was an absolute angel. He explained all the wines and their backstories so well, and went above and beyond in terms of kindness and hospitality. The wine was delicious and well-priced, and the ambiance was absolutely stunning. With outdoor patios shaded by overarching trees and sprawling green vineyards, Castoro is a slice of paradise. Stop by, you won't regret it!

Bruce H.

Yelp
We were with friends on our wine tour that are members of the Castoro wine club so this was on our to go places for the day. Beautiful grounds, view and fantastic wines but I think the way they did the tastings could have been thought out a little better. I understand during these crazy times and with our states requirements, everyone is trying to figure out the best way to survive and being a winery you have all sort of challenges but bringing a new glass out for each tasting was a little excessive plus it made it take longer between tastings. We had reservations like we had for most of our stops. We were seated promptly on a picnic bench placed out on the edge of their patio. A group near us who were sitting on nice cushioned outdoor furniture got up and left so I asked if we could shift over to the shaded more comfortable location, no big deal I'm thinking but they said NO. No one else sat there the whole time we were there. I felt like we were the bastard step children.

Kathleen H.

Yelp
Loved our experience and the wine. No ambiance but our guy coordinating our tasting made up for it! We loved the wine too. Bought multiple bottles.

Kat D.

Yelp
This is a nice winery in Paso Robles. We went there not to taste wine but to pick up Grape juice, of all things. My daughter in-law loves there grape juice and since she hasn't been there for a few years we thought we would pick some up. It's a nice place, they had live music and the food looked yummy. I would like to go back and taste the wine. From what we saw this is a definite wine stop.

Adam F.

Yelp
This one's an easy one to rate - I'm just still catching up on our wine trip a couple months ago (we tasted a lot of wine that trip!) The tasting is normally $10, which would be very reasonably priced to taste 7 very good wines (we ended up tasting 8 when we were there - 7 plus a dessert wine), but it's also comped with checkin right now. It was a pretty chill place when we were there (the Sunday before Christmas), with plenty of space, and friendly people working there. I tried a great white blend, a pretty good chardonnay, and several great reds, including one truly fantastic primitivo (only $30 a bottle, which isn't cheap, but is pretty reasonable for a wine of that quality). Extra bonus: they also have a separate craft distillery, Bethel Rd Distillery, basically across the road, that also makes some phenomenal spirits, and is also currently giving free tastings with checkin.

Michelle R.

Yelp
First time in Paso Robles last week and visited this one winery. It did not disappoint!!! Beautiful outdoor area and our hostess Sherry was AWESOME!!! She was so sweet and very knowledgeable! We learned things we never knew about wine and I've been to quite a few. Wines were very tasty and very affordable. $20 to taste and refundable with a $50 purchase. That was easily done with a great variety of wine.

Till W.

Yelp
Their Templeton location can seem intimidating but the shady trees and beautiful Vineyards here are wonderful. They have concerts here for special occasions. You can also get to see grapes up close as your walking in the entryway. It's the perfect place for big groups as they have a lot of outdoor room and seating.

Jen S.

Yelp
Love everything about this winery. The location is stunningly beautiful, the people are friendly and knowledgable, and the wine is absolutely amazing. Paso Robles at its finest!

Amy K.

Yelp
One of the most beautiful wineries. I can see many weddings, bridal showers or birthday parties held here. The outdoor space is phenomenal! You walk under archway or grapes before entering. Nancy helped us and was so professional and helpful. We bought a soft and a hard cheese, crackers and exquisite salami paired with our wine. Prices were decent and I had the best hard white cheese coated with espresso and lavender. The wines were also very good. The variety is huge but I liked the Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, trenta, Chardonnay (really good not Oaky, buttery, different that other chardonnays). The wines and ambience are superb here and it's worth the visit. If you check in on yelp, tasting fee of $10 is waved.

Cristina C.

Yelp
A million times YES! They are so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable! The venue is so cute! We live 3 hours away and are already talking about going back. Highly suggest checking out their parent company, Bethel Rd Distillery across the street too.

Jason K.

Yelp
Good wine and good views. Very calm setting and a great vineyard to walk around. The service was a little bit rushed but not sure if this is because covid time restrictions but they kept coming to fill our glass before we were done with our tastings and had us finish them quickly.

Amie M.

Yelp
Our group of 4 was greeted by the hostess today. When we told her we didn't have reservations for wine tasting, she sighed and said "reservations are preferred and we are so short staffed today. I suppose we can accommodate you" I really felt like we were imposing on her and the facility. Luckily, Randy came out and said "come on inside and belly up to the bar!" He was awesome and welcoming! After the way the hostess reacted, we were ready to walk out. 5 stars for Randy! 0 stars for the hostess

Angelina H.

Yelp
Stopped in on our way back from Paso and this place was the BEST! Wine was delicious and views were beautiful but Kathy truly made our experience. She was so knowledgeable, kind, and joyful. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary and are already talking about going back next year!

Connor C.

Yelp
Made a 2 hour drive to visit this winery for the soul purpose of playing disc golf. This is quite a drive just to play disc golf but it was absolutely worth it. This property was stunning and well kept to say the least. It is a $5 fee per person to pay and I would pay double that any time to be out on this beautiful property. Big thanks to the staff for keeping this course looking amazing and creating a friendly environment.

Candice H.

Yelp
Moms a member and came in on a cold Monday afternoon with no reservation we were welcomed warmly and given a spot in front of the fire. This winery is a bargain especially the club. Out of the 6 wineries I tasted on this trip this was top 2. They have some solid wines. I actually joined after this great experience. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name that served us because he was amazing , very attentive and informative. I would stop in if your are in the area , centrally located and there is a large patio to enjoy when the weather is fair. There is a extensive list of wines to choose from. We were offered a few off menu wines that were really good too. Don't be afraid to ask to try something that is not on the regular rotation
