Was a bit worried after reading some negative reviews. Totally unfounded! Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Room was modern, clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our view from the balcony was just overlooking the restaurant, but we didn’t spend much time out there. Didn’t use the pool. Had steak at the restaurant, no seasoning and very thin, but cooked properly. I think the Mexican dishes would be better. We used the shuttle multiple times. Had absolutely no issues! Shuttle drivers were responsive, friendly and helpful. The hotel gives you the shuttle phone number so you can call the driver directly. We never had to wait more than a few minutes for the shuttle.

Completely Unacceptable Room Conditions, But Great Front Desk Staff! I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to share how deeply disappointed and upset I am with my experience at Catalina Canyon Inn. When I first arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Jackie at the front desk, who was absolutely lovely -- professional, friendly, and incredibly helpful. She was the highlight of the experience and made check-in feel smooth and promising. Unfortunately, everything fell apart the moment I entered my room. Just two hours after checking in, I pulled back the blankets and found blood stains and/or some other unknown substance on BOTH beds. I was horrified. This wasn't a small oversight -- this was a complete sanitation failure that made me question how often or how thoroughly the rooms are cleaned. To make matters worse, when I brought this to the hotel's attention, no one apologized. A staff member simply came in, took the blankets, and left. No acknowledgment, no apology, no attempt to make it right. When arriving back to my room again the blankets that had been replaced, were replaced with stained dirty blankets. Finally the front desk lady's solution was to send a different kind of blanket, with color, making stains difficult to identify. This further worsened my fear of how unsanitary this place may be. As if that weren't bad enough, the shower was visibly dirty and rusted, which only added to the overall feeling that cleanliness is not a priority at this property. The front desk lady named Dawn was a horrible experience for me, and very nasty+rude to me as well. I had looked forward to a relaxing stay, but instead I felt uncomfortable, disgusted, and let down. Jackie at the front desk deserves credit for doing her job well, but sadly, the state of the room and the hotel's lack of response to a serious hygiene issue ruined the experience. Which was more upsetting, as it was my first experience/time being on the island. I will not be returning, and I hope management takes this seriously because no guest should have to deal with what I experienced. The front desk totally dismissed me when I was upset about this, telling me to "calm down, that she could not see any stains." I don't care if it is 3 small specs of blood, no one should be sleeping in bodily fluids, and no one should receive this sort of customer service and care when faced with such a thing.

Rooms are small but nice & clean. Exterior could use some updating. They really need to have multiple shuttles running. I was there for nearly three full days and only managed to use the shuttle twice, despite going into town multiple times each day. Most of the time, I ended up walking or paying for a taxi. When I first arrived, we waited over 20 minutes at the port before I gave up and took a taxi. Every other time, the shuttle line was so long it would’ve taken two or three trips to get everyone, so walking was the faster option. If you’re staying here, don’t plan on relying on the shuttle. The hotel restaurant was also a big disappointment. We waited over 30 minutes just to get our drinks, and when the food finally came, the steaks looked like something you’d get at a Denny’s. I was especially surprised because both the reviews and even the captain of our boat charter had spoken highly of it.

We stayed in many different hotels on the island. This was our first time at the Canyon Inn. Impressions: large room, which came with 2 queen beds. beds were very comfortable as close as we're used to at home with 4 pillows each. sheets were clean and the room had neutral smell. Surprisingly, the TV had way more available channels than other hotels we stayed at, I even got playoffs hockey game! Balcony and whole atmosphere of the hotel was pleasant and the front desk staff just adorable and very friendly. Now the best kept secret of this place is the onsite restaurant!!! UNBELIEVABLE...the food honestly tastes as good as it is presented, way cheaper than the other restaurants down the hill. Speaking of hills. Only small drawback is that the hotel is located on a walkable hill less than a mile away from the downtown Avalon. Hotel does provide free shuttles every 30 min or so but if you don't feel like getting some fresh air and some exercise you'll wait. We got the shuttle from the Cat Express to the hotel and that was def worth the 10 min wait. Bottom line is, family decided that we will definitely stay here again and if not, we are 100% walking up the hill to the restaurant for this amazing breakfast that you honestly won't find anywhere on the island!

Staying here was like starring in my own horror movie—“Attack of the Moldy Bathroom.” I walked in to find mold so bad I thought it might ask me to pay it rent. I reported it and asked for it to be cleaned. Spoiler alert: no one ever showed up. So I rolled up my sleeves and tried scrubbing it myself. On vacation. In a hotel. Love that for me. But wait, it gets better—there was no shampoo or body wash in the room. I asked for some, and after what felt like a full lunar cycle, they finally brought it… the next day. Luckily I had my own or I’d have just bathed in frustration and sarcasm. This place needs serious help with cleanliness and customer service. If you’re thinking of booking a stay, maybe also book a backup tetanus shot and a travel-size cleaning kit. Just in case

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Catalina Canyon inn, and it was an incredible experience! The location is stunning, surrounded by breathtaking views and serene nature. What truly made our stay memorable, however, was Jackie. She has been nothing but amazing and accommodating throughout our visit. From the moment we arrived, Jackie went above and beyond to ensure that all our needs were met (especially my 2 year old, Lily, who adored her). Her warm hospitality and attentive service made us feel right at home. Whether it was providing recommendations for local attractions or ensuring our stay was comfortable, Jackie was always there with a smile and a helping hand. If you're looking for a beautiful getaway with exceptional service, we highly recommend Catalina Canyon inn. Thank you, Jackie, for making our stay unforgettable!

Our room had several issues. The biggest one is the cleanliness. Several hair found on sheets and bathroom. Toilet did not work, room smelled like human urine. Old furniture, room appears it hasn’t been dusted in years

This hotel is located in the back of the island so I was hesitant to book but they have shuttle which makes it easy to get around. The restaurant there has amazing food. When I got there Jackie was all by herself but she made sure to make us feel very welcomed. She took her time on everyone and still managed to give everyone great service up front while checking in. Her amazing attitude made it so much more worth it. Thank you!!

Yelp
I liked it here! Employees in lobby are very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I saw a bunch of bad reviews of the rooms being dirty or moldy, but mine was very nice and clean. The aesthetic is so cute too. Love the little outdoor patio. They have the nice blinds in the windows too. Very quiet atmosphere. The restaurant inside is soo good. They were playing Hunger Games in lobby so extra points for that. Some points- snacks in lobby are so overpriced. The shuttle is a hit or miss- get the number and save it. We were able to get a consistent driver (shoutout to Jose) but the timing of when they come isn't consistent so get ready to get your steps in. I'd come again!

Yelp
Well I said I'd wait to see how the last couple days went at this Hotel Not great at all... The people were nice enough but unfortunately the hotel itself was terrible. Not clean, restaurant was nothing to write home about. It took forever to just order and get drinks. And there were only 4 people eating at the time.. So it's a no for us...

Yelp
The good- We only book this place because it's pet friendly. The kids loved the bunk beds. Staff is very friendly. The bad- The air conditioner smelled like mildewy socks, and didn't really work. It was freezing right next to it, but didn't cool the rest of the room. Just slept with the window open the second night. 4pm check in is ridiculous. Pool is small and dingy. Everything is slightly dingy and run down.

Yelp
Cute nice hotel. It's your typical 3/4 start hotel. The room was clean, front desk was friendly, all amenities were provide, and they have a pool! They have a nice play area and lounge area. They have a small little restaurant inside the hotel and brunch was delicious. Restaurant staff was also very friendly. They also provide a free shuttle to and from hotel to downtown to the boats. We enjoyed our stay and will stay here again. Only bad thing I can say is that the wall are pretty thin and we could hear our neighbors.

Yelp
The photos may look appealing, but they're incredibly misleading. This property is completely isolated in the middle of nowhere with no walkable areas, stores, or restaurants nearby. Once you're there, you're essentially stuck. There's no reliable transportation available except for a single, poorly maintained "shuttle" that runs on its own inconsistent schedule. Calling it a "shuttle service" is generous at best. The entire experience felt unsafe from the start. The grounds and buildings are poorly lit, and there was a constant smell of cigarette smoke throughout the property, both inside and out. Several intoxicated individuals were loitering near entrances and outside common areas, some of whom stared in a way that made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Cleanliness was another major issue. The room was dirty stained linens, dusty surfaces, and a bathroom that looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly in a while and has a bad odor. The communal areas weren't any better. Trash cans were overflowing, and the overall maintenance of the property was clearly neglected. As for amenities, they were practically nonexistent or not functioning as advertised. Customer service was also unhelpful, rude and inattentive. Staff seemed overwhelmed or simply indifferent, and any requests were either delayed or ignored completely. This feels worse that staying in a $25 motel. They don't even offer you a bottle of water. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I felt compelled to warn others. If you're looking for comfort, cleanliness, safety, or basic hospitality this is not the place for you.

Yelp
Booked this hotel 2 days before our trip to Catalina, it was about $370 for 2 nights in Feb. I personally think the hotel is nicer than what you'd find elsewhere. I've been to Hotel Atwater and the room is pretty small. Here you have a little nook area where you can sit and eat, a microwave, fridge - which most hotels don't include anymore. There's also a pool which is a plus. The check in ladies were super nice. The only downside was the bed was a little springy, which wasn't too comfy and the shower pressure is kinda slow. But overall pretty nice hotel/room!

Yelp
I stayed here because this was one of the locations for a work conference. I was a bit worried about the negative reviews of dirty sheets, mold and broken furniture, but was pleasantly surprised by how decent my room was. Clean sheets, comfortable king bed, updated furniture and perfectly working shower. The hotel is located at the top of the hill, so they offer free shuttle vans to and from the downtown area and Catalina Express dock. Otherwise, it's a good 12-15 minute hike. There's a pool and small fitness gym. No jacuzzi. There's a restaurant, but it was closed for renovations. Lots of tropical vegetation and chirping birds, giving a vibe like you're somewhere more exotic. One of the staff at the front desk was not the most welcoming when I arrived and she was not helpful when I was looking for the fitness gym. FYI- for anyone looking for it, it's located all the way in the back, past the pool and looks almost like a guest room, but there's a small sign that indicates Fitness Room. Pretty minimal with a treadmill, elliptical, cycle machine and weights. The equipment worked fine though. Overall, I had a positive experience here, but will probably rather stay at one of the cute Airbnb homes next time.

Yelp
I truly debated between 3 and 4 stars. But I think the free shuttle is what really bumped them up to 4 because that was extremely convenient!! This hotel has a FREE shuttle that picks you up from the Catalina Ferry and takes you to the hotel or the downtown area where all the shops and restaurants are. It runs all day until 8:45pm. The hotel itself was cute. They recently renovated it, so the room was nicely decorated and clean. The lady who works at the front desk (day shift during the week) was extremely nice, helpful and accommodating. Now the woman who comes for the night shift (during the week) was rude! Very unprofessional. She would be having personal conversations on her cell phone, had her kids in the back that she was yelling at, and hung up in my face when I called one night inquiring about the shuttle times. The only other negative reviews was their toilet didn't flush, we didn't get housekeeping when requested, and their restaurant on site was closed for renovations. You can check out games to use which was fun, their pool was clean and relaxing, their are snacks and drinks in the lobby you can purchase and they'll hold your luggage for you upon arrival if your room isn't available yet. I would stay here again. Hoping next time, their restaurant is open!

Yelp
Staff: The front desk staff was very welcoming and kind when they checked us in and we let them know we were celebrating a birthday. Anytime we needed anything they were happy to accommodate. Pool: A bit clouded. Towels were very limited and small (to be fair the loungers are very long and my boyfriend is over 6 ft tall). The towels do not adequately cover the chairs and since they're dark, they get extremely hot in the sun. Be careful. Room: We stayed in the Deluxe King, but there was nothing deluxe about it. You can tell the hotel has been around for a long time as there are chips in the walls at every turn, the shower leaked, and the products offered in the room were cheap. For the price we paid, this hotel fell short. Location: The hotel is located up by the golf club, which is far enough away from downtown that it's quiet, but you do need to hike up and down a hill if you walk into town. Take that into consideration if you want to be "near the action". Restaurant/bar: We only had appetizers at the restaurant, and the chicken wings were okay though the price point for six wings was a bit high. What really put us off is the bartender/server took my boyfriends name off his credit card when paying, googled him, and then showed everyone at the bar pictures of him online and asked for a picture. Extremely unprofessional and we were put off from returning.

Yelp
The room is OK. The reason I'm giving one star is because we called the hotel and they told us that the shuttle will be there to pick us up. We kept waiting for over 30 minutes. We called a few times and they kept assuring us that they will be there to pick us up, but ultimately they stop picking up the phone. We have a small baby and my husband is not in good health so it was really frustrating to have to walk all the way up to the hotel (slopes included) because nobody was picking up the phone and it was past 9:00 PM. We called the cab, but they weren't responding either. So it was frustrating to have to walk uphill at night time with a baby and a partner who is not in good health due to medical conditions. This is why I'm giving one star because of poor customer service. If you are on notice that your paying customers are waiting to be picked up and you assured them that the shuttle will be there, but you fail to deliver, that's poor customer service.

Yelp
Beautiful location, very accommodating, and the restaurant is a great addition. The staff was very nice, a specific shout out to Jackie, she was LOVELY and went above and beyond in her kindness! We didn't get to thank her before we left and we hope this review gets back to her, you are great! The restaurant is adequately priced, everything on the island is expensive so finding a good meal for under $30 was pretty challenging- their prices were much lower than most of the other places down by the ocean.

Liz R.

Yelp
Overall I don't think I would stay here again, especially for $550 a night. The sheets were clean but the sink was clogged and shower smelled really bad. At night we turned on the A/C but it made so much noise along with the rattling from the mini fridge. The walls are also very thin, to the point where we could hear the neighbors snoring. Check in isn't until 4pm and they make you check out really early at 11am. The only good thing I would say is the shuttle transportation service that is constantly on route. The guys running the shuttles were very nice and friendly.

Yelp
I don't know what all these negative reviews are about. This place is what our family calls "Catalina Nice". It has everything you need- a lobby with snacks and drinks to purchase (both N.A. and alcoholic), a restaurant, a pool and a free shuttle to take you into town. The rooms are clean and a huge bonus is, it's quiet from golf cart noise, which you don't usually find in Catalina. The staff were incredibly friendly and the shuttle drivers made our days. The restaurant was great, too, and the prices were beyond fair + they have happy hour! I am not sure how crazy busy it is in the summer months, but this review is from September 2024.

Yelp
Still giving this hotel 5 stars, love the rooms, staff, location, layout, pool, and restaurant. One of the favorite places I've found after traveling in over 30 countries! HOWEVER check in today felt very rude and impersonal, I felt I was checking in to a Hyatt or hilton. NOTHING like what I experienced on my first Stay - friendliness and welcoming vibe. PLEASE get rid of this new front desk person, we won't be coming here again as she ruined it all for us. She was impersonal, rude, and offered no help when I asked for an extra night added to our stay. Such a shame to ruin everything with this mean, angry person. Hire someone else.

Mild and water damage in shower 4th floor. Pool wasn't warm enough in winter and closed down for painting. November

Yelp
spent 3 days at the Canyon Inn. located on Catalina Island. Beautiful grounds, beautiful, colorful chaise lounges all through the property towels were soft and plentiful beautiful beach towels loved the service of a shuttle, taking us into downtown Catalina and picking us up every 15 minutes at a stop. Everyone was helpful friendly we felt so good to be there and I slept great Ellie Bracken

Yelp
Had a beautiful day here. The place sits up in the hills about a quarter mile outside of town. This place has been upgraded. It was pretty clean. The pool is nice and the prices were ok considering i was stranded on the island like Gilligan because no boat could come and get us because of the rough waves. I wasn't about to pay $650. and $450. a night for the hotels right across the street from each other on the road by the beach. Anyway... with all the beautiful plants at this hotel and relaxing atmosphere... i got a good night sleep. Note: Tell your employee not to be serenading at 4 am in the laundry room. It echoed through the whole place. But... he did get a wide eyed awaking when i went downstairs and screamed "silencio" meaning shut up. He did have headphones on entertaining himself. FYI... you don't know how to sing

Yelp
At $200. A night I do have some expectations. Clean sheets and soap being some of them. We got neither. Empty soap, shampoo and conditioner in the shower. And to top that off when we turned down the bed, a big brown stain. So gross When we did receive new sheets the employee just handed them to me as to say " make your own bed " If you are going to Avalon I would recommend staying at another hotel and don't waste your money staying at canyon inn

Yelp
Our Catalina experience was amazing and we loved everything we did and the island. The only thing that messed it up was this hotel. Easily 1 star review here. Not sorry to do it. Not to be that reviewer but if you look at my other reviews I've literally left only 2 and they have been positive. I'm going out of my way here. 1: told us they would contact us for check-in but never did. She said she could show me the time they sent it but i never got the call. Possible i just didn't get it but along with the other issues, seems like they just didn't call. 2: mold on bathroom 3: no body wash in the shower. When i called to have them bring more up it took them 45 minutes and they gave us bars of hand soap and said they had none left. 4: dirty sheets, blankets, towels AND pillow cases. Called to have them replace them and they gave us a new set of dirty everything. 5: Ophelia, the manager never once apologized for anything and seemed completely apathetic to every situation. 6: Weird things going on there, such as charging 1 dollar for a set of plastic spoon/knife set. 7: ants 8: this one is our fault but it's easily the farthest hotel from things so the location isn't great. See all attached photos/video. Stay somewhere else.

Yelp
I have a 19-year-old son who is going blind and I wanted him to see the ocean with some friends in case transplants were not in his future. I only had so much money. Unfortunately, one kid backed out. The website says the room rate is based on three people. Two people ended up going which I understand. It was a last minute thing, even though they say the room is based on the rate for three people, I understand, not getting my money back to that. I ordered this on Expedia, everywhere I have searched it says $50 upfront for the room. I paid the whole $1700 for 4 nights. A lady I spoke to on the phone said it is $250 because they are not 21. I spoke to her supervisor she said the same thing! I cannot find it anywhere on any website saying $250 only $50 at hotel. Now my son has to go without doing one of his activities he wanted to do because the hotel is taking $250 from him now he has about $400 left until Saturday. I called back and tried to speak with someone and a man answered - this is on Tuesday, March 27 at 5:38 Eastern time and he had the nerve to tell me this is more of an adult hotel. If this is an adult hotel, why is it not specified? You don't have two hoodlums coming there you have two respectful young men on their first vacation away from their parents before my son goes blind, and I am appalled. I understand if I didn't have enough money I should not have sent him. My total bill was $2,101. I paid for this vacation for these boys before my husband fell off a roof April 4th and became now has a sever brain injury. He had had two surgeries on both arms, hands, and wrists. There are no more surgeries left next time he's getting them cut off. On top of that he has several refreshers and many facial fractures. Go to my Facebook page Denise McCaw and look unfortunately my son would not have gone on this trip. Had I known all this was going to happen but you think the hotel would at least be somewhat understanding when nothing on their website says 21 and younger has to pay $250 for their room, especially with one didn't show up and they still have it as three people and it says charged as three people. I don't know. I'm in tears this supervisor as a joke who wouldn't have some compassion. I'm so worried my person is going to run out of money. What a disgusting thing for their employee to say as well this is mostly an adult hotel nowhere on your website does it say that! They haven't even got there and I'm sure they're wishing the friend that didn't show up. Would've never chose a place like this. I have never dealt with such rude employees with no understanding. All I wanna know is where on the website does it say that under 21 is $250? A joke for a hotel and if you want to support a boy who has worked his butt off in school to become a fire fighter and paramedic, and now his dream is over, I would not book a room with this hotel through Expedia or through them, I don't care what kind of ratings they have! Pretty pathetic. Of course I'm upset. The third boy didn't go and Spirit only gave me credit, unfortunately which there is no more vacations in our future with the situation we are in. We will probably be homeless within the next month or two. God forbid this hotel shows me where it says 18 and lender a $200 fee because it certainly isn't on Expedia or their own website.

Yelp
The hotel was beautiful HOWEVER our room was infested with ants! Also I called ahead to verify if there was a required deposit just to be prepared, in which they told me no, although upon check in they actually DO require a $50 dep. It wasn't a problem just wanted to be prepared. If not for those issues, everything else was cool!

Yelp
Save yourself the money and do NOT stay here. Check in isn't until 4pm, and our room wasn't ready until 4:30pm. The front desk receptionist have no idea of how to work in HOSPITALITY. We dropped off our luggage at 11am and the receptionist couldn't have been ruder and made 0 attempts to lift a finger to help us with our questions. We grabbed a water bottle but couldn't charge it to the room because "we weren't checked in yet" and it was a $10 minimum for Credit Card usage. PS. each 16oz water bottle at the hotel was $3 and we bought 24oz bottles for $1 each 2 blocks away at Vons. The rooms were DISGUSTING. The showers had mold along the bottom and along the shower doors, the toilet paper holder was barely in the wall, the safety latch on the door was broken, the comforter had blood on it.... Check out is at 11am and house keeping knocked on our door at 10:45am (why on earth check in is so late, I have no idea). We never used the "complementary" van service because it was never around and ran every "30 to 60 minutes". The one time we caught it, there was a line. We ended up walking up and down the hill with cars going VERY fast around us, since there isn't a side walk. PS. this lovely stay was $465 (including tax) for ONE night. I feel so ripped off. I asked for a receipt/folio because I didn't trust that they would continue to charge the room. They never emailed it, I had to call the next day and re-request.

Yelp
beautiful view from the room, staff were super friendly will definitely stay here again in the future

Yelp
Not sure why this hotel only has 2.5 stars, but my stay was INCREDIBLE. Couldn't ask for anything better. From the amazing room, the grounds of the hotel are well kept, maintained very nicely. The Staff were so delightful. The Restaurant staff were really awesome too. Whoever their chef is, Top Notch. Special shout out to Juan. The host and server, was the epitome of a great worker. Overall 5 stars for this hotel and stay. Def will be returning

Yelp
Staff was dishonest, and rude. Room was dirty and overpriced. Not sure why I didn't believe all the bad reviews this property had already and just booked another Hotel entirely. Catalina Canyon you guys are the worst.

Yelp
Reasonably priced here on Catalina island. They are a 15 min walk from the ferry dock. We packed in a backpack so it was easy to walk up the hill. If you have larger luggage, they have a shuttle. There is a restaurant on site with indoor seating, and beautiful outdoor seating areas. Nice size rooms are to be found here and ours was very nice with a balcony overlooking the interior courtyard. We are very happy with the staff and accommodations here.

Yelp
Left my Tory Burch sandals there by accident, dishonest staff said "nothing was found". Whoever stole them, that's disgusting. If your feet start itching, that's on you (:

Yelp
We arrived in the morning to Catalina for Mother's Day. First thing we did was call to see about early check in... just to see what our chances would be. We got shot down and the told us it would be ready by 4.. the scheduled time. while site seeing the island he asked if they could call us at the earliest time if ready. We received no call, as expected... we waited for the shuttle van that didn't show up so we hiked up the hill all the way to the hotel just to find out that the room is not ready! Not only did we reserve and pay for our room, they kept running us around about not knowing when the room would be ready. As the time keeps going on, other guest with reservations are still waiting for their room and they said they've been waiting for 45 mins and still no solid answer on when it would be ready. The staffs customer service is rubbish and misleading. We asked to Al cancel the reservation to get the refund back and they couldn't even give us a straight answer with that. Do yourselves all a favor and book at the other hotels. If I could give a negative star I would. Mother's Day looks like a disaster on my end because it was suppose to be a get away for us and we spent a good amount of time of our trip in the lobby and walking around the resort we can't even stay in. Trash trash trash

Yelp
This property is an extreme disappointment and severely overpriced. We spent $728 for one night and it was criminal that we paid so much. We stayed in room 301. Upon entering, we had to wipe down the desk and other surfaces because they were dirty with grease layer. The bathroom showed signed of wear with so much deferred maintenance. The linens and towels were stained and like sand paper. The bed was dirty asf. The television didn't work and required maintenance The toilet paper holder literally fell off the wall. The pool was cloudy and the pump was barely running mid day. We have a pool at home and familiar with dynamics. It's clear that the pool is not well maintained. If you pay more than $125 on this place, you are over spending. Wish there's a means for a partial refund. If we could, we would've went to another hotel that gives a damn and tries to present a nice product.

Yelp
Pros: Property: Beautiful layout, with pool and restaurant on site. Clean and spacious room, w/ king and bunk beds. Cons: Location, location, location: hotel sits about 0.50 mile from the dock and downtown Avalon, on a steep hill. Free shuttle service is provided but the wait times can be long. The walk from the hotel to town isn't so bad as it's all down hill but the walk back up to the hotel can be challenging if walking isn't your thing or if you have small children and/or luggage. The last shuttle supposedly runs at 945pm but on our last night after dinner, we called the hotel at 8pm and was told the driver was gone for the day. Wonderful. Next time we visit Catalina Islands, we'll probably stay at one of the hotels down town, even if it costs a few more bucks, as the distance, uphill climb, & spotty shuttle service was just way too inconvenient.

Yelp
Booked our hotel too late so I paid $450-$500 a day. Was it worth $450-$500 a day -- no. They allowed us early check in to accommodate our first vacation activity. But they didn't allow late check out so we had to pay for luggage holding fee at the terminal; I only needed an hour extension. Service was good. Front desk wasn't that friendly but the housecleaning crew members were very nice. They don't clean the room during the stay. I had to ask for towels and refills for our multi day stay. Pool is nice. Place is safe. Shuttle takes you to and from the hotel to downtown or terminal which is a 10 minute walking distance. Best to plan on walking as there are time shuttles were just not available. The resto bar on site has really good food!

Yelp
Jayson & Linzis checked us in. We didnt have a lot to do before checkin so from 7am to 12pm it was a bit rough before we called over and asked if we could use the pool while we waited for the room. Jayson who was now helping us was pleasant and incredibly helpful. Linzy assisted us with the beach towels next day. Hotel provides shuttle that can carry most people/luggage. Ruben & Steven Segal aka Camillo will help you. They do not operate on a schedule but* as of 10/20/2022 They both got us around town from 7am to 8:45pm last shuttle. The hotel advertises 10:45pm and 9:45pm no, both times we were corrected to 8:45pm. The point of pickup: spot 1# Boating Dock - wait by taxi sign. Also ask around if they spot him so he can assist hotel guests. People are helpful.. spot 2# Nearby drop off closest to lobster trap on 3rd. Spot 3# infront of hotel by bench There is an island shuttle service that drops you off at the bottom of the incline "country club rd." It's a good 5-10 min walk no luggage and is conveniently down the street. In most of these other reviews they must be people not willing to cough up $600/night for beach property and arent avid walkers. If you have a hard time with being physically active or are not a moderate walker/hiker this hotel might not be for you. The hike to the hotel is a commitment. Steep hill no sidewalks & narrow street that golfcarts use. I'd say it was harder with luggage roughly a good 25 min. but! in addition to the free hotel shuttle for about $5 a day you can ride the island shuttle. A tip: get use to hilly walking all over catalina. Catalina is very hilly and not just flat in inland parts of avalon. Hotel: allows you to check your bags for free if you're checking in only. upon check out, they told us no. So Take the free shuttle down to the boating dock and have your luggage stored before 7pm for a $7 fee each luggage piece. Free beach towels: this hotel offer free beach towels to borrow and they were actually really nice towels to me. Thank you!! We took our towels to Descano beach and had a wonderful time. Pool. Yes there's a pool, and no they have not had a working hot tub in several years. Don't bother calling to confirm they haven't updated this for a while. Fitness center. small and their only treadmill is out of order. The cove: Our bartender Elizabeth was very friendly and nice. The room: We were situated in room 126. It was just outside their patio and was not noisy or anything noticeable. The door doesn't close fully. The room itself is mildly dirty, carpet stains, broken torn furniture, filthy shower. I actually injured myself on this trip and ask the hospital nearby to clean my wound since I didn't trust this bathroom. We unfortunately didn't get to use the spatub. Considerate of the drought and injury. It was nice to pleasantly walk out and around inclined from 126 and the hotel itself is off a hillside lots of steps. their patio lighting is whimsical and one morning we witnessed an island deer outside of our hotel room door. Perfect weather all 2 days. Very relaxing and enjoyable.

Yelp
Good exterior but the experience awful for the $300/night pricepoint. - Hotel shuttle unreliable and who knows when it shows up - They house construction workers - Workers smoking pot that filled the hallway and our room at 5pm - Hotel is under construction but priced as if it matched the pictures - Hot tub closed - "Restaurant and bar" is independently ran by one waitress with an attitude. And menu is not stocked. - Tiles cracked and mildew in showet

Yelp
It pains me to leave such a negative review but I feel compelled to warn potential future guests... The room and bathroom was not properly cleaned (or cleaned at all). I found nail clippings under the table (See in photos). There was hair and makeup on the toilet and walls. 2nd set of towels were missing as well as the extra roll of toilet paper in bathroom. The sheets were stained with footprints and makeup. I couldn't use their Keurig becuase it was grimey. The 'sealed' plastic cups had holes in the plastic wrapping so it was unsanitary even for pre-Covid times. We booked three rooms total between our group and it sounds like the cleanliness issue was not isolated to one room. Everyone in my group had to call several times to gather information about the shuttle since the staff on the phone were unhelpful and curt. Our one-night stay was last minute and we couldn't find any other place to stay. If you have a choice, I would stay away from this hotel at all cost.

Yelp
The bed was too soft, I could hear the television all night next door, the hot tub has been out of order for years, the pool is disgustingly filthy (not clear), it is not worth the price they want for the night at almost $400.00 for a king room bed, and the snacks are limited and over priced. I'm not returning. The restaurant on the sight is severalty owned and just okay. The restaurant closes at 9pm, which is difficult after a long day traveling to the hotel. The shuttle service was the best as the drivers were nicer than the hotel staff at the front desk. The front desk staff acted like I was a stranger and stared at me as if I didn't belong. Stay away!

Yelp
When we checked in we got a key it didn't work. I had to pee very badly and fortunately an employee was able to help us open the door. Took about 10-15 minutes for them to fix the battery on the door to make the key work. That part a little inconvenient but not too bad it was around 11 pm and I went to pee again and the entire bathroom floor flooded on us and my boyfriend was asleep they sent up a plunger I had to ask for towels once to clean up all the pee and sewage water off the ground and again to take a shower. As far as I could tell no maid ever came up to clean the room when we got back from being out. Was also told that I could have a charger free on the house because of the door issue but ended up getting charged. Employees were not bad actually, pretty nice just not worth staying here again the toilet thing was traumatizing.

Yelp
Recently visited Catalina Island with My girlfriends and it was a blast of a good time. We arrived and our room was ready to go and we were too! We had a thousand or so questions and Lindsay did not skip a beat from greeted us with a smile and did not Hesitate in answering and giving us great recommendation. Not only was Lindsay great with us at the hotel she saw us trying to walk up the hill late after shuttle hours and she made two trips up on her personal golf cart and made sure we made it back to our room. Thank You Catalina island, thank you Catalina Canyon Inn, and Lindsay thank you so much for everything! Safe to say we will be back :)

Yelp
This is exactly what we were hoping for. We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Avalon. This one is a little off the strip, but they provide a shuttle service, and we never had to wait more than 10 mins for a shuttle. The room was very nicely appropriated and clean. We loved the little patio outside our back door. Minuses: Internet was pretty poor, but it wasn't great anywhere on the island, so it may not be the hotel's fault. This place was really nice, nothing fancy, and perfect for a couple of days in Avalon.

Yelp
Got a great deal booking early. Sometimes great deals are not "great." The place is under renovation. Not a bad thing because the floor we were on was already renovated. The front desk receptionist, Lindsay, was terrible. We arrived at around 1pm. She greets us with "what do you need?" Not having been here before, we asked to check in. She said "4pm." Is there a place we can store our luggage? She says "over there." That's pretty much our conversation. So we put our luggage into the storage place and went for a great hike. Came back after dinner and was greeted by a lovely young lady. She was not only polite, but put us into a newly renovated room. We were delighted by the room, fresh paint, new carpet, etc. Our delight turned to disappointment rather quickly that evening. The rooms are paper thin! We could hear every snore, laughter, TV and fart on both sides of our room! This is NOT an exaggeration. We felt that we were sharing our room with another couple or two. The inn also has a shuttle service which I don't recall see on their website. The driver picked us up from the Catalina Express and also picks up / drops off at other spots. After our hike, we had dinner at a lovely place called the Lobster Trap (highly recommended). When we inquired about when the shuttle picks up from there, the receptionist replied "the driver comes and goes." I asked if there was a schedule. To which she replied again "he comes and goes." What kind of answer is that. One important thing to note. The inn is about 1.5 miles from the city core. Going down to the city is easy, but coming back up is a bit more difficult on the steep incline, especially after a couple of drinks LOL. I'll still give the inn 2 stars or slightly less. 1) Lindsay needs some schooling on her attitude - seriously. 2) I'm sure they can't do anything about the insulation between walls - so you'll have to live with that. 3) The renovation created a lot of commotion there. You might be ok if you're going during the summer. 4) The shuttle service needs a real schedule, not just a lah dee dah mentatlity.

Yelp
Our stay was a very pleasant surprise. The setting is peaceful--away from the bustle of central Avalon and surrounded by unspoiled hillsides. The view of the canyon/garden from our spacious balcony was wonderful. Our room (420) had recently been tastefully renovated; it was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. We asked for a quiet room and were given what we wanted. Our friend in 502 had an especially elegant room. Drawbacks: 4pm check-in time, because they don't have enough staff. Unpredictable shuttle service. Most of the time it was fine, and the drivers were helpful; but once we had to wait a long time for the shuttle back to the Inn from town (it's a long, uphill walk), and we met one couple at the Inn who finally gave up on the shuttle and walked to town. The restaurant only serves breakfast on weekends, and the lunch menu is uninteresting.

Yelp
I have a few things I really did not like about this hotel. First I tried to get a late checkout, just one hour. They said they don't do late checkouts which does not make much sense because they can't clean all the rooms at once. Then I asked if I could put my bags and golf clubs in the storage room and they said it is only for the guests that are checking inn. That made even less sense to me, especially when the entire storage unit was empty. I even told them I was going to get food at their own restaurant which I did but with my multiple bags... And when I left the hotel 3 hours later the room I could not stay in for 1 extra hour had still not been touched. This hotel does not seem to care when you leave. Which says a lot to me. We stayed at this hotel because there was kids in the group and they have a pool. I would think twice and forgo a pool for a different hotel.

Yelp
Substandard place. No coffee. Personnel rude. Blood on sheets. Unsanitary. Please do your research and find another place.

Yelp
Holiday inn "UP UP UP" on the HILL...."TAXI"!!!! FRONT DESK STAFF IS ANGRY all shifts. Pick a time just unhelpful...star... This hotel has a restaurant in the center courtyard overlooking the pool. I was "BLOWN AWAY" amazing!! Best south of the border type food on the "ISLAND"!! A very close second is the "SAND TRAP" a locals favorite. DOWN THE HILL BY THE GOLF COURSE. My opinion

Yelp
1st glance the hotel was really nice looking even for night, well lit, the pool was warm (and clean) the front office was easy to access from shuttle drop off point. The Single King room that we stayed in was nice and cozy, had an excellent balcony view of both the mountains and the resort not only that the room was very modern and stylish in decorative design I even liked the shower. Amenities inside inlcude cable TV, mini fridge, microwave, and hair dryer. I would recommend this hotel to friends.

Yelp
Dirty bed sheets! Poop and blood stains. I called and a male receptionist-man was very rude and kept asking us if it's old stains or new. What?! He talked very slow and talking to us as if something is wrong with us. The room is disgusting. No room service. Shower doesn't close and it flooded everywhere. Towels were dirty. We asked for new sheets and they brought it but we had to put it together. The new sheets and blankets had stains too!!! Nightmare in Catalina!!!!!!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! The only good thing about this place is the area but everything else is ZERO!!!!!!! It hurts me to even put one star it should be zero stars. The man called the sheriff on us because we complained about a dirty room. Twilight zone! Do yourself a favor, STAY AWAY!!!!

Yelp
We arrived to find urine and hair on the bathroom floor. Room smelled like the sewer. Could not sleep all 3 nights we stayed there as the ceiling was really poorly insulated. Can hear footsteps. Thin walls can hear other guests. The worst was every few hours something would burst a loud humming noise. We never received housekeeping. Had to ask for extra supplies and towels. Poor service. Poor maintenance. Unsanitary. It was so bad they gave us a complimentary night. The hotel sent us an email justifying their actions just as the Mgr is doing in replying to each of these reviews. Please believe all the reviews. Unfortunately we booked before reading all the reviews. We chose it bc it was close to the golf course, however it was far from all the restaurants (extremely inconvenient) and of course we only found out the hotel restaurant was in renovation when we checked in.

Yelp
Room was kind nice although we had ants all over the place and a lizard came in through a gap in the front door. The beds weren't very good but i was able to sleep. The cons, they are pretty far from downtown and the walk from downtown is mostly vertical. They need to implement a second shuttle. If they don't i wont be staying here again. Their shuttle is often an hour plus wait which can really kill your day. We got stuck downtown because the driver told us they stopped running at 945 when it was actually 845. The local taxi service had stopped running but we we were able to hitch a rid from a really nice lady in a gold cart. Why didn't walk? Because i have a four year old that i have to carry everywhere. It's not a bad stay if you don't mind waiting around for the shuttle based on our situation i wont likely be staying here again unless they implement a second shuttle.
