When I worked in town, I used to go to their Pioneer Plaza location quite often. When I heard they were opening a restaurant in the Waimalu Shopping Center, I added them to my Yelp Bookmarks. We usually go to our favorite Italian restaurant located in Pearl Kai Shopping Center to celebrate special occasions but decided to finally try this place for my husband's birthday.
We were all planning to order a salad. Our waitress mentioned that we should share because they give a lot. My husband and I split the Toss Green Salad and my kids split the Caesar Salad. Yup, I think the salad would've been too much for one person...props to her!!! Their homemade dressing for the toss greens was soooooo good! My husband doesn't usually comment about dressings but said he really liked it. I enjoyed it too but included is also their tasty homemade pickled carrots (used to ask for this when I ordered my large salad from their Pioneer Plaza location). Think we may be dropping by often just for this salad...yum!
For our appetizers, we ordered the Sauteed Mushroom and Sauteed Broccoli. Both were cooked with butter and choke garlic. It was very tasty and a huge portion was served for both!
My son and I always order the Chicken Saltimbocca that includes chicken breast, thin layer of eggplant, prosciutto, cheese and mushrooms at other restaurants BUT here at Catania, their Saltimbocca has the prosciutto but not the eggplant. If you order their Chicken Sorrentino, it has the eggplant but not the prosciutto so my son ordered the Saltimbocca and I ordered the Sorrentino to compare. Both of us liked the Saltimbocca better...there was more taste. The Sorrentino was okay...the eggplant was too thick and maybe should've been cooked a little longer because there was a soft crunch to it. I don't think I'll order this again...will try something different next time.
My husband always orders Chicken Marsala which includes breaded chicken breast, cooked with mushrooms, butter and Marsala wine. He enjoyed it and thought it tasted just as good as the other restaurant we go to. My daughter always orders the Chicken Alfredo. She also enjoyed her meal. Both of them would order these again when we return.
For dessert, I usually order Tiramisu but they were out...bummers. We ordered a Kahlua and a Lilikoi Cheesecake and 2 orders of the Haupia ice cream. I liked the Lilikoi cheesecake better than the Kahlua and didn't think the ice cream had too much Haupia taste BUT my son liked both cheesecakes and my husband and daughter enjoyed the ice cream. Hmmm, is my taste buds going bad? LOL!
Overall, the workers are really nice, service was fast, food was tasty, the restaurant is spacious and clean and easy-to-find free parking right in front of the restaurant. I thought the price of the salads, appetizers and main meals were reasonable for the generous portions that were given (enough for 2 meals and then some) but thought the price of the cheesecakes were pricey because it was small for $7.50 a piece.
