We just came for desserts and we definitely weren't disappointed. The service was excellent and the Christmas-themed desserts were sensational. Every ingredient and texture perfectly balanced and you could tell that a lot of care and thought went into both the design and execution of the dish. A wonderful experience and definitely would recommend C/P.

We visited Launceston hoping to enjoy some fantastic food, but unfortunately the dishes were very disappointing. We ordered the Paddock to Platter, which was supposed to be delicious, but what we received was burnt and bitter. I requested medium-well, but does that mean the food should be charred and taste bitter? The cabbage salad was also extremely bitter. I ordered a mango & passionfruit daiquiri, and it was overwhelmingly sweet—almost like eating sugar with a hint of mango. I had to ask for a large glass of water just to dilute it, and even then the sweetness was still too strong. The only dish that tasted good was the abalone. Overall, I do not recommend the food there. I can’t speak for the other dishes, but after experiencing such a disappointing first meal—especially at a price that wasn’t cheap ($139 in total)—I will not return. It was far too expensive for that level of taste. It should have been much, much better.

The atmosphere is relaxed and easygoing, perfect for a family meal or catching up with friends. The portions don’t look huge at first but we ended up feeling really full🤤. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in Launceston!

Great food. Great vibe. We did wait 45mins for our food but we were warned beforehand and it was worth it in the end. Wife ordered the scallops hot stone dish and I ordered the scotch fillet. Steak was cooked to medium and was super tasty and tender. Scallops tasted fresh, sweet and juicy.

The best place we ate at in Launceston, great vibes, beautifully presented food - the best pork belly I’ve ever tasted. Sadly I was to distracted to take a photo of that! But this was the scallops starter which was also great. Everyone at our table of 5 was having raw food envy over everyone else’s meals.

We had the most amazing dinner at Cataract on Paterson! I’m not normally one to write reviews but I had to share just how amazing the service and atmosphere was. The staff went above and beyond to make us comfortable, especially our host Alex who was so lovely and made our night extra special. The food is exceptional and we will definitely be back next time we’re in town!

This is a fabulous restaurant. The food is upmarket and flavoursome. The presentation is artwork. It is in the higher cost bracket but for a special occasion it is worth the trip. Bookings are essential and there is off street free parking. The staff are professional and attentive. The atmosphere is enhanced by the clever separation of tables making it feel private and easy to converse.

I had an absolutely amazing experience at Cataract on Patterson! From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel welcome and comfortable. A special shout-out to Gabrielle, who was an absolute sweetheart. She was the one attending to us and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Her kindness, professionalism, and warm demeanor truly stood out. Highly recommend this place to anyone needing cataract care — they go above and beyond!

Yelp
There needs to be more restaurants like this - It's upmarket, but not uncomfortably so. The price tag is equally as proportional, it will cost you more than a nice pub meal but you certainly get a better experience. It's the kind of place you'd go a few times a year, to celebrate a promotion or a new job or on your anniversary. I went with the Mrs on a night away, we shared the seafood platter for 2 and it had it all: scallops, s&p squid, oysters, fried fish, chips and chowder. It's a lot of food. It was all done very very well, however the best part is the wait staff. They were all very friendly, very attentive and made sure to keep an eye on us without hovering. It's probably the service I've received in Tasmania if I'm being honest - where service is universally less than stellar, to say the least. I didn't particularly enjoy the dessert, it was a peanut butter panookie but was more like a brownie with 6 inches of fairy floss. It's a minor issue really, and considering how well everything else was done it doesn't lower my score.

Yelp
On a trip with my daughter and always looking to try something different. This place did not disappoint. Food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Only wish it wasn't on the other side of the world from home!

Yelp
The fish special of Trevalla with onion pakora, steamed broccolini and salad was quite good and plentiful. My friend's Thai beef salad was large and the beef had good flavor but was disappointing. It was hot, very salty and had little in the way of vegetables. Much too much rice noodles and limited green veggies. The restaurant was quite noisy.

Yelp
Loved this place from the moment we entered. Sophisticated and hip atmosphere. Attentive service. Delicious food. (See photo) We made quite a dent in this seafood platter for two, but could not finish it. Every bite was scrumptious.

Yelp
Had dinner there last night. One of the absolute best restaurant experiences I have had Ever! The staff is only outdone by the food. If your a steak person and don't try the steak on the stone you are missing one of the best stesks you could ever eat.

Yelp
Cataract on Paterson is a restaurant that uses local food products from Tasmania, and it definitely shows in their menu and cooking. The food was great, I loved the decor of the restaurant (modern trendy...I want to say hipster but can't bring myself to use that word), and it was reasonably priced for the quality. We had the eye fillet and the seafood platter, with some oysters and scallops for entrees, and everything was really fresh and just solidly done. The steak was cooked exactly how I ordered it (medium-rare) and the seafood platter was huge. I think they definitely aim to let the flavour of the food shine through, rather than doing too much fancy stuff with seasoning and sauces. Don't get me wrong, everything was seasoned properly and there was a variety of sauces to choose from for the steak, there just wasn't anything super creative on the menu, but that's okay because sometimes the basics are all that are needed. There was also an extensive beer and wine list, featuring Tasmanian beers and wines along with a few broader offerings, so plenty to choose from there. The service was okay but nothing outstanding. The service was at a relaxed pace, and our server didn't really seem to have an opinion on the food or drinks, when asked, she just kind of told us what the popular options from the menu were. There were a couple of large groups in the restaurant at the time, I can see how it's a good place to have a celebratory dinner like for a birthday or something, but it was also good for just two people. Overall, a really good place to eat, especially if you want fresh, local produce.

Yelp
The meals and service were absolutely excellent, 10/10 would recommend. The ice cream cone tasted crummy. 3/10 would not recommend.

Yelp
Once again Cataract on Patersons been an awesome place to dine. I have never had a better steak anywhere. The stone grill is a fantasic experience and as I am not able to eat prawns (illergic) I asked if scallops could be substituted and it was no problem at all. The salad is to die for and if I was vegetarian I could just have a huge salad and love it. My friends are vegetarian and the chef whipped up a beautiful rissotto for her. Dessert was scumpious and a wonderful end to a lovely night. Thank-you Bec for your spot on service and great smile. We will be back soon.

Yelp
We have just returned from the most enjoyable meal we have had in a restaurant for many months. In my travels I get to eat at many restaurants but am rarely prompted to celebrate a meal with an audience such as those of us who use Yelp. The seafood platter was exceptional and one of the best presentations of seafood I have seen for a long time. The lamb shanks were equally delicious. Presentation was wonderful and the waitress, Felicity, who looked after us during the evening was the most attentive and professional we have experienced in any restaurant. She was a delight and made our evening out an absolute pleasure. Thank you Fliss! If you find yourself at Cataract on Paterson we hope you have the same wonderful experience as we did tonight. It goes without saying that the deserts were brilliant also.
