This restaurant offers a wide variety of choices on the menu. The portion sizes are generous—our “Paddock to Platter” for two was more than enough to satisfy three adults. The food quality is excellent; we particularly loved the flavorful mushroom sauce and the freshness of the salad. The service was warm and welcoming, making for an enjoyable dining experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

Great night as always. Our server Tim was great, ensuring we had everything we needed and regularly checking in with a smile and friendly helpful attitude. Food was amazing, with only the Pork Belly being a little bit over cooked, but still tasty. Will be happy to go back as it’s always a good experience. ☺️

Overall good dinner experience, especially if celebrating a birthday with complementary sparklers and ‘Happy Birthday’ writing. Food was decent. The steak on stone grill was a bit ‘beefy’/irony in taste. Really enjoyed the octopus entree and main Vodka pasta. Definitely bring a friend for their desserts, as a 2 we struggled to finish it. All their desserts looked beautiful and unique!

Service is absolutely top notch especially the waiter that was serving us (Patrick). he made good recommendation and we are glad that we go ahead with it. Ordered the meat platter as well as seafood platter. The serving size is huge for 1 and can easily share with 2 people. Atmosphere is great as well and can be very crowded during dining peak hour so highly recommend to make reservation first. Reason why I did not give 5 stars is because of the Beer flight, which looks quite pathetic. Would prefer that they use a smaller glass instead a big glass but half filled.

Definitely the best meal I had in Tassie. We went there in a Sunday night and the place is packed with people. Great christmassy vibe and service was neat. Food is gorgeous especially the risotto. Overall, you are paying for what you deserve, no complaints at all.

The restaurant was fully booked The food was excellent. We only managed to get in after 7.30 pm as they were fully booked for the earlier timings We had to delay our departure time from Launceston because of the late dinner time. But no complains since the whole family enjoyed the meal. The variety was wide enough to cater to everyone Highly recommended if you are in Launceston.

We were recommended to visit by our friend and it did not disappoint!! The seafood platter was absolutely amazing, so fresh and flavourful! The drinks were also equally amazing, if you're after a great feed this is definitely worth a visit!

From start to finish the cataract on Patterson experience is nothing short of superb. We were welcomed warmly upon arriving over half an hour early. Service was attentive and fast on a busy weekend evening. The meals were perfect and our dessert was given an extra special touch for my partners birthday. I absolutely love coming here from Devonport every chance I get. Bravo!

Yelp
There needs to be more restaurants like this - It's upmarket, but not uncomfortably so. The price tag is equally as proportional, it will cost you more than a nice pub meal but you certainly get a better experience. It's the kind of place you'd go a few times a year, to celebrate a promotion or a new job or on your anniversary. I went with the Mrs on a night away, we shared the seafood platter for 2 and it had it all: scallops, s&p squid, oysters, fried fish, chips and chowder. It's a lot of food. It was all done very very well, however the best part is the wait staff. They were all very friendly, very attentive and made sure to keep an eye on us without hovering. It's probably the service I've received in Tasmania if I'm being honest - where service is universally less than stellar, to say the least. I didn't particularly enjoy the dessert, it was a peanut butter panookie but was more like a brownie with 6 inches of fairy floss. It's a minor issue really, and considering how well everything else was done it doesn't lower my score.

Yelp
On a trip with my daughter and always looking to try something different. This place did not disappoint. Food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Only wish it wasn't on the other side of the world from home!

Yelp
The fish special of Trevalla with onion pakora, steamed broccolini and salad was quite good and plentiful. My friend's Thai beef salad was large and the beef had good flavor but was disappointing. It was hot, very salty and had little in the way of vegetables. Much too much rice noodles and limited green veggies. The restaurant was quite noisy.

Yelp
Loved this place from the moment we entered. Sophisticated and hip atmosphere. Attentive service. Delicious food. (See photo) We made quite a dent in this seafood platter for two, but could not finish it. Every bite was scrumptious.

Yelp
Decor - modern, roomy Service - pretty good Food - seafood is very fresh, eye fillet is tender, but scotch steak is not so good Price - $20-40 per plate on average. Sunday and holiday have surcharge

Yelp
Had dinner there last night. One of the absolute best restaurant experiences I have had Ever! The staff is only outdone by the food. If your a steak person and don't try the steak on the stone you are missing one of the best stesks you could ever eat.

Yelp
Cataract on Paterson is a restaurant that uses local food products from Tasmania, and it definitely shows in their menu and cooking. The food was great, I loved the decor of the restaurant (modern trendy...I want to say hipster but can't bring myself to use that word), and it was reasonably priced for the quality. We had the eye fillet and the seafood platter, with some oysters and scallops for entrees, and everything was really fresh and just solidly done. The steak was cooked exactly how I ordered it (medium-rare) and the seafood platter was huge. I think they definitely aim to let the flavour of the food shine through, rather than doing too much fancy stuff with seasoning and sauces. Don't get me wrong, everything was seasoned properly and there was a variety of sauces to choose from for the steak, there just wasn't anything super creative on the menu, but that's okay because sometimes the basics are all that are needed. There was also an extensive beer and wine list, featuring Tasmanian beers and wines along with a few broader offerings, so plenty to choose from there. The service was okay but nothing outstanding. The service was at a relaxed pace, and our server didn't really seem to have an opinion on the food or drinks, when asked, she just kind of told us what the popular options from the menu were. There were a couple of large groups in the restaurant at the time, I can see how it's a good place to have a celebratory dinner like for a birthday or something, but it was also good for just two people. Overall, a really good place to eat, especially if you want fresh, local produce.

Yelp
The meals and service were absolutely excellent, 10/10 would recommend. The ice cream cone tasted crummy. 3/10 would not recommend.

Yelp
Once again Cataract on Patersons been an awesome place to dine. I have never had a better steak anywhere. The stone grill is a fantasic experience and as I am not able to eat prawns (illergic) I asked if scallops could be substituted and it was no problem at all. The salad is to die for and if I was vegetarian I could just have a huge salad and love it. My friends are vegetarian and the chef whipped up a beautiful rissotto for her. Dessert was scumpious and a wonderful end to a lovely night. Thank-you Bec for your spot on service and great smile. We will be back soon.

Yelp
We have just returned from the most enjoyable meal we have had in a restaurant for many months. In my travels I get to eat at many restaurants but am rarely prompted to celebrate a meal with an audience such as those of us who use Yelp. The seafood platter was exceptional and one of the best presentations of seafood I have seen for a long time. The lamb shanks were equally delicious. Presentation was wonderful and the waitress, Felicity, who looked after us during the evening was the most attentive and professional we have experienced in any restaurant. She was a delight and made our evening out an absolute pleasure. Thank you Fliss! If you find yourself at Cataract on Paterson we hope you have the same wonderful experience as we did tonight. It goes without saying that the deserts were brilliant also.
