"The location among the vineyards of Paso Robles offered just the right mix of beautiful rolling hills and vines with access to appealing family-friendly wineries, coffee shops, and takeout venues—we ordered my father’s celebration dinner from Catch Seafood Bar & Grill in downtown Paso Robles and brought it back to the house so we wouldn’t have to worry about small kids wreaking havoc in a restaurant." - Michelle Baran

We came in ready to sail the high seas of seafood, but this boat had a few leaks. Let’s start with the “steamers.” Or as we call them on the East Coast, not these. They tasted like they came straight from the freezer, not the ocean. On the bright side, the escargot was surprisingly good and definitely the highlight of the appetizers. The cioppino was just okay. Not bad, not memorable. Pasta was solid, though it seemed like every dish had the same sauce. Shrimp cocktail was overcooked. Halibut was extremely overcooked. It was honestly inedible and we sent it back. Crab legs were also overdone and a bit of a letdown. By this point we started to wonder if seafood was just not their thing. To their credit, the server was very kind and apologetic throughout the meal. They handled the situation with grace and made the experience more pleasant than it could have been. Maybe this is just the local standard, but for us, it missed the mark. Still, we had fun and made the best of it

I've been to France many times and this escargot beats it! Fantastic flavors. I went with the swordfish special and my goodness amazing. Potatoes were crispy on the outside with the perfect softness inside. Swordfish was perfectly cooked and served with the shrimp scampi sauce (not a heavy dish!). All paired with seasonal vegetables that were lightly salted and peppered. With a glass (or two) of local wine, you're looking at your next favorite restaurant. I will be back and I cannot wait. Complements to the chefs!

Small place. A lot of loud people. Food looked beautiful but not anything spectacular. Would definitely say it's overhyped. Scallop and shrimp pasta: scallops had the metally taste, shrimps still had the tails on them, pasta wasn't flavorful. Shrimp cocktail was decent. Creme brulee was cold, like it came straight from the fridge. The catch of the day: halibut: was soft, lot of bones still inside, had be to extra careful eating that. Pretty much all their other "Catch of the day special" were out, so very slim pickings. Wine list was okay. Overall: overpriced, overhyped, underwhelming. Wouldn't be a place I recommend. Especially with the random drunk lady offering everybody to drink out of her wine bottle.

Google
What a great place for seafood. Had the seafood pasta and was not disappointed. Big flavor, ample sauce, and serving. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. If you like great service & good seafood food, this is your next stop!

Google
The trio was amazing. Expertly prepared. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The sea bass was to die for. 5 Stars!

Google
We found this fantastic little seafood restaurant while exploring downtown Paso Robles. We ate dinner there our first night and loved it so much. We came back the next night for another meal. The owner, Chico, is the head chef and does a fantastic job of cooking and entertaining guests at the same time. We had halibut and salmon the first night. The second night he said he’d make us something special, which is shown in the picture below. He served us a piece of Chilean Seabass, a piece of swordfish, steak, and a piece of ahi tuna. Fantastic!! he also added a side dish with scallops and shrimp scampi! We plan to return to this restaurant every time we go to Paso Robles, it was that good! Also, must try the Calamari, it’s unique and delicious.

Google
Fresh and tasty seafood at this local restaurant located in the heart of Paso Robles close to shops and theater. It has extensive menu and daily catch specials. Reservations for parties of 4 or more are recommended as it is not too big with seating for approximately 45 people. The counter is the spot to sit if you are a couple or dining by yourself as you have front row view of all the cooking activities. The staff is friendly but quite stretched and busy at peak hours.

J Junkin

Google
Absolutely the best place for seafood in Paso. Try to grab a counter seat to watch it being prepared.

Maria T.

Yelp
The food is delicious, Chico is great and their service is very friendly and they make you feel like family. The place is great you can choose to sit outside, inside or even at the bar. Everything is just GREAT .

Yelp
I wish we were hungrier and not just wanting a snack after the Sensorio experience. The food was delicious! And everyone else's food looked and smelled wonderful. We had calamari appetizer (it's a steak, not rings/tentacles FYI), clam chowder and a salad with a bottle of Pinot Noir. Julio was wonderful. They were very busy but he made sure to acknowledge everyone and thank them for their patience. It's a smallish place but hopping! We were late evening walk-ins but I'm sure during the dinner hour you'll need reservations!!! We had vanilla bean ice cream with berry compote for dessert. It was perfect. Not too heavy or too sweet. Very creamy ice cream with warm compote! Divine! The place is casual. Lively without being too loud. We are already looking forward to coming again.

Yelp
Paso Robles is home to many excellent restaurants, especially around the downtown city park between 11th and 12th streets. Catch is one of our favorites, and this was our third visit, each time with reservations. Every time we've dined here, the restaurant has been packed, with a line of eager diners waiting outside. Reservations are definitely a must! For this visit, I made a reservation for 6 PM on a Friday for four people. My son's girlfriend was visiting, and they were craving seafood, so Catch was the first (though not the only) place that came to mind. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated immediately. Our table was near the kitchen, but it didn't bother us at all. We started with drinks and two appetizers: calamari and Blue Point oysters on the half shell. The calamari was outstanding--meaty, lightly breaded, and perfectly fried. The oysters were large, fresh, and delicious, especially with the horseradish and cocktail sauce. For the main course, three of us ordered pasta dishes: clam linguine, shrimp fettuccine, and pasta primavera. The fourth opted for the sea bass special. The food was excellent, just as it had been during our previous visits. The seafood was incredibly fresh, cooked to perfection, and bursting with vibrant flavors. I tasted the sea bass and was blown away by its preparation and depth of flavor--it was a true highlight. Even on a busy Friday night, the service was fantastic. Our server was attentive, and the food arrived promptly. The only drawback was the noise level. With an open bar and grill area, along with full tables and lively conversation, it's a bit loud. If you're looking for a quiet, intimate dining experience, this might not be the place for you. However, if you're after some of the best seafood dishes in Paso Robles, Catch should absolutely top your list. This won't be our last visit--we'll definitely be back for more. Highly recommend Catch!

Yelp
A co-worker recommended this place and we are sure glad he did. The staff was friendly and very efficient. The food was fantastic! My seafood pasta was one of the best I've ever had, just simple good quality ingredients and excellent flavor! The relaxed vibe just added to the whole experience. We will be back for sure!

Yelp
This was a last minute decision. Got a seat at the bar. We got lucky, most of the bar had reservations. You can watch the chefs prepare all the meals. We ordered scallops and shrimp plate and swordfish with pasta and vegetables. The swordfish was cooked to perfection! All delicious AND the vegetables were fresh!l Generous portions, great staff, good food, clean and I am fat and happy!

Sharon N.

Yelp
I called for a reservation and the person recommended the bar seating. The chefs were amazing. It was so entertaining. The selections were great making deciding which to have a problem. The wine selection was varied and reasonable. We will definitley be going back.

John F.

Yelp
Great food, great service! Chico and his staff are amazing! We cannot come to Paso Robles without eating at the Catch Grill!! We had the Sword fish last night and it was amazing! Calamari steaks seem to be a favorite will try that next time!!! Thanks for a great culinary experience!!

Claire L.

Yelp
I came here with some friends for my birthday dinner and it was absolutely incredible. My first time in Paso and this made the experience so wonderful. We sat at the bar and really enjoyed ourselves. The seafood was so fresh and flavorful. Piping hot from the grill, and chatting with the Chico and the guys was so fun. We will be back every time we visit!

Leo B.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner for two on a Wednesday! We enjoyed Blue point oysters that were delicious. So fresh and served with fresh horseradish and sauce with lemon and was so good! We enjoyed the scollops and scampi and the shrimp Alfredo entrees. Both were very tasty and spiced well. The bread was also perfect for soaking up some of the great sauces. Good local wine choices complemented the meal as well. The waiter and cooks were very polite and it was fun to watch them from our end of the bar seats. It was busy early and got moreso as we were finishing up, festive sounding but not overly loud. On the way out another couple just offered out loud to us "that was amazing food!" I agree. We will be back!

Joanne J.

Yelp
Chico made a delicious dinner platter of salmon, mahi and calamari steak with a side of scallop and shrimp scampi. It came potatoes and fresh veggies cooked to perfection....fresh bread and butter to boot Sit at the counter so you can watch the magic

Kaitlyn P.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!!!! They were able to squeeze us in at the bar when our reservation wasn't saved on the books when we called. Honestly, best mistake ever! Chico, the owner, poured our wine and helped us out with our order. What a gem that guy is! The food was great and so was the wine & service! You get such a great experience sitting at the bar, highly recommend it! Super fast and SUPER YUMMY!

Johnny X.

Yelp
Still our all time favorite restaurant ANYWHERE!!! Calmari steak is nothing like any other restaurant. So tender. So flavorful Missed Chico the owner tonight but Martin filled in admirably! Love this place. BEST CALAMARI STEAK I HAVE EVER HAD. We come here EVERY time we come to Paso.

Bruce S.

Yelp
Fabulous meal .... Chopino was amazing ... sea bass was amazing .... You won't be disappointed !!!

Oscar B.

Yelp
Been going here for years, Chico and crew are great . Sea Food is out of this world , traditional but has a Mexican flair to it...GREAT.

Ali V.

Yelp
Open only for dinner, Catch Seafood Bar and Grill is amazing. If you can, sit at the bar to watch the masters as they prepare various dishes, ask them questions, and if you're lucky they may give you a couple samples here and there. Their Calamari appetizer is terrific. If you ask, their is another way they can prepare it without the breading, but with with wine, mushrooms, etc, and it's fantastic (and gluten free). The clam chowder is great, chunky, and with a kick of black peppers. All of their seafood is fabulous, of course, but the "Trio" is my favorite as it comes with salmon, mahi mahi, and snapper. Many of their pasta dishes can be ordered with gluten free pasta, and they use Brian's sourdough bread for their garlic bread, which means you may be able to enjoy it if your gluten intolerant since Brian's uses sourdough starter which breaks down the gluten. Highly recommend this restaurant and making reservations (very popular and packed).

Yelp
Stopped by for a "quick" meal while traveling back home. Overall enjoyed our experience. It was an early Sunday evening, so there was still plenty of seating inside or outside. Given the heat, we opted to stay inside. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server. I wasn't quite in the mood for fish, so was pleasantly surprised to see additional options. Decided on the chicken Alfredo, with a side of clam chowder. The chowder was delicious, and they didn't skimp on the clams. The Alfredo on the other hand needed some love. Added some salt in there to help. It wasn't bad, just didn't excitement me. If I'm in the area, I'd go back to give it another try. Definitely looked like it was good spot for a date night.

Randy B.

Yelp
I was a little disappointed, as I've heard rumblings about town that it's great. Casual decor, casual service, at very upscale priced seafood. What we got was fairly good, but pricey. The bread served at the table was at best, common -- not warm, or super fresh. I'm moving to Paso soon, so I'll very likely be eating here again.

Susan W.

Yelp
Everything was spot on! LOVED the food and service was excellent! I highly recommend the scallops. Sautéed perfectly in white wine with mushrooms. Bread was yummy! Lava cake for dessert was the best way to finish a great meal! We will definitely return! Thank you!

Richard W.

Yelp
It's like going to an old school seafood restaurant. With an open kitchen, you can watch the fish go into the broiler or pan fresh! The entire place smells of garlic and butter as they make fresh shrimp scampi. Nice wine list and a low corkages means you can bring your daily wine finds. Service? Terrific, the best place is to sit at the counter! Yummy!

Yelp
We went to have our anniversary of our first date 19 yrs ago. We celebrated here last year. The rack of lamb was very disappointing. Looks like they took a hack saw to cut the chops. It tasted ok. But looked terrible. My husband had filet mignon. Tasted good. But it looked like they threw it on the plate. Very skimpy serving of veggies. For 42.00 it should look better. The lamb was so sad looking. They need knife skills. The service was ok. Just seems like they've cut corners since our last few visits. Thinking we won't be back for a long while.

Shereen M.

Yelp
Excellent food. Unmatched service. Talking with the chefs is an amazing ambiance. For heavens sake what else can I say about this place and its wonderful people?

Lauren S.

Yelp
Delicious!!! 10/10. The Calamari Dinner is a popular dish and for good reason. It is a breaded steak cut and is SO good. We also had the seafood pasta and the clam chowder. The portions are very generous and we left 100% satisfied.

Niki R.

Yelp
My husband is an east coast transplant and always jonesing for seafood. AND he's a seafood snob. So I was excited to check out this restaurant. When we arrived, they seated us right away-- it was loud and the tables were pretty close together. We'd had a big lunch so we decided to do all appetizers instead of main entrees. We ordered oysters on the half shell, they weren't shucked well, we really had to struggle to get them loose from the shell. And, the horseradish was so mild (old?) that we needed to use a huge dollop to get any flavor. The cocktail sauce tasted like ketchup. The mussels were overcooked and the broth was completely bland. It had great ingredients in the broth-- mushrooms, tomatoes, garlic--- but the broth literally tasted like flavored water -- and not even salted well. The sautéed mushrooms-- we expected a small portion of these since it's an appetizer-- it literally was an entree size dish of sautéed mushrooms-- which were absolutely delicious. The garlic, white wine and whatever else they used to create the sauce was really delicious. We also ordered shrimp cocktail but the waiter mustn't have heard - because we never got it, and weren't charged for it either. Given how many places there are in Paso -- we probably wont go back.

Marty S.

Yelp
Delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, great service, great location. We were able to sit on the enclosed patio, with heaters. It was very nice.

Tomomi S.

Yelp
What a disappointment... I hate to leave this low star review since our last visit was nothing but amazing. So amazing that we made our reservation a week ahead to make sure that we can get out seats at the counter. We arrived several minutes ahead of our 7:30pm reservation. The place was pretty empty inside (only couple of tables were occupied) but as usual, the counter was full of customers except for 2 chairs open all the way at the end. I thought those were our seats? Maybe? Nope!!!! Right in front of our eyes, the hosts told another couple who were seated at a table to go ahead and they can move to those 2 counter seats. Then he found out that our reservation was at the counter (yellow highlighted on their book), and told us that we can take a table seating, or need to wait for at least 30-40 minutes for the counter depending on when the customer leaves. Doh! So we went to a restaurant nearby who had a more competent host. It is disappointing that chef and owner work hard to make this place so popular, but this kind of service would lose some loyal customers like us.

Shannan F.

Yelp
My husband and I love this place. The friendly staff is so attentive and welcoming , it feels like your home with no clean up afterwards. I usually get The lamb chops that are incredible but this time I ordered the Calamari dinner. Best Calamari I've ever had. And their serving size is huge.

David J.

Yelp
Tried a new place upon our recent visit to Paso. The entrees we had were enjoyable. Substantial portions, easily shareable, food was good. Open kitchen concept. Good service at a local spot with that hometown vibe.

Martin T.

Yelp
I found myself with Saturday night off from work...Oh My. My partner C said good, I said lets have dinner out, take me to someplace you like and she did. She made reservations and seating tine was 7:30, excellent. Parking karma kicked in and I got a parking spot literally steps away from the restaurant...wow. A few extra minutes before we were seated no problem. Table was a cozy duce against the wall by the specials board and counter, defiantly my kinda spot. The menu is simple and to the point. We started with a bottle of pellagrino for me and C enjoyed a rose wine. A half dozen oysters and a couple of crab cakes. Now I like crab cakes and I was interested in trying theirs, I was not disappointed in the flavor. If I had a critique it would be the thinness of said cakes. Thinner cooks faster, is less crab meat and two is better than one but thicker is better period. Yea Okay Oysters were fresh and tasty, a benefit of a busy restaurant. So dinner already, C ordered the Scallop entree with standard red creamers and fresh veggies. I had to try the Seafood Pasta with all those bits of fish and shellfish. Oh yea this is good stuff, seafood something in every bite. The light broth wine sauce is outstanding. The linguini out lasted the rest but the balance between the protein and carbs were well matched, yes I cheated as used the bread to mop up a few more tastes of that sauce. Yummy Desert was cheese cake mouse slice with some real whipped cream our sweet treat tonight. Defiantly worth the wait, the restaurant synergy finished our very positive dining experience tonight, thank you C your choice was perfect. Foodguy-martin

Yelp
Yet another amazing dinner experience at Catch. Tonight my husband and I both had the Filet Mignon, he had his medium and I had mine medium well. Both were cooked to perfection. We enjoyed a lovely conversation with the owner and the cooking staff at the bar. The GSM wine called The Offering was tasty! If you're a visiting Paso Robles you must stop here even if you don't like seafood. Ramiro and Martin are great cooks and Chico is the owner.

Ed M.

Yelp
Came to visit and see a concert, but before we stopped at our favorite place to eat. Boy... Chico never disappoints. Last time we were there, 6 mos ago I asked Chico if he has made steamer in a white wine garlic sauce. Chico said. Yes those are "old school steamer". Said just ask for them that way, we will know what u want. Ordered them and they were amazing, just what we expected. Followed that with their hands down best calamari, which was cooked perfectly. And for the entree, we split the Chilean Seabas.... So delicious. And of course we sat at the bar, is the only place to enjoy dinner. Ambiance was quiet and enjoyable, got to talk to the chefs. They have once again not disappointed. Great establishment, we will be back.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Food was hot and this place was super quick with their food. 10 out of 10. Only bad thing,I forgot to take a pic. I recommend making reservations as they are only open 4 to 10.

Mike A.

Yelp
Great good!! Amazing ambiance! Treat you like your someone special:) Great service! Never tasted anything I didn't love. We have been here multiple times. Locals hangout:)

Henry J.

Yelp
Absolutely the best seafood in Paso. The smells in here all blend together perfectly when you walk in. We had a table for 8 for a birthday dinner. They easily had us set up. We were allowed to bring in our own wine also. The fresh catch of the day is posted on the wall. I ordered the Halibut Florentine. The fish was cooked to perfection. And the speed of our food preparation was amazing. If you're in Paso visiting, this is a must see and eat!

Karlie S.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this restaurant on a trip and oh my, what a find! Very cozy and friendly atmosphere and we were welcomed very warmly by the chef owner. The blackened salmon was delicious and everything was very fresh and perfectly cooked! Super juicy and tender dishes. We would visit again!

Pamela P.

Yelp
Aside from the food being delicious the experience if sitting at the bar and watching all of the meals being prepared was so much fun. Great experience.

Taylor R.

Yelp
Absolutely incredible food! I ordered a ribeye, oysters, lobster, beef stroganoff & calamari. Every dish was phenomenal to say the least. I am from Las Vegas where we have a large selection of restaurants and this place definitely topped them all! Chico gave us incredible service and hospitality I will definitely be back! Thank you Chico!

Mike Y.

Yelp
Good food and staff and great wines, love this place, say hi to everyone My favorite restaurant in Paso Robles!!!!!!!!

Jordan K.

Yelp
My mom wanted seafood since they were driving through Paso and wanted to make a quick visit. So I took them out to dinner for their 35th Anniversary at this nice establishment. We started off with the calamari and was happy to see that it was not those small calamari pieces. My mom had the halibut florentine, pops and I got the seafood pasta. Wow the portions were worth the price! Mom's florentine sauce was great and the scampi she ordered on the side. Our seafood pasta was loaded with protein. All the flavor was at the bottom in the wine sauce. But other than that it was all good. I wish they had fresh ground pepper, that would have set off my plate. The server brought out my parents a crème brûlée which was also good. Service was A+ as our server checked on us periodically and kept our water full. Thank you for a great meal and wonderful service.

Jodi M.

Yelp
It was our anniversary and our 4th time to Catch. Every time the food and service has been perfect. We got to sit at the bar and watch the cooks work their magic. So fun watching our dinners be made. My favorite dish here is the Ciopinno. My grandma used to make this dish from scratch and the broth at Catch is the closest I have even able to find of hers. It reminds me of home everytime I order it. Fully loaded with fresh fish, scallops, mussels, class, and veggies. The best ever. On this visit my boyfriend ordered the seafood pasta and it was equally loaded with seafood. The pasta texture was perfect. We can't wait to come back.

Sans S.

Yelp
Food, Service and friendliness! Chico and the gang provide a family style friendliness yet the cooking, the taste of the food, the arrangement and the plate decoration is second to none! Their oysters on half shells are plum and delicious, Tuna was prepared to perfection. We are in town only a few times a year and always look forward to seeing Chico, family and the gang. Thank you.

Jenell B.

Yelp
Food was great, sat at the bar and watched them cook. Service was awesome and loved atmosphere! Would definitely go back.

Luis C.

Yelp
Service was ok, however the food was too expensive for what it is, scampi and scallops came with only one scallop, the pasta was tasteless, soup was ok missing a little salt but ok.

K C.

Yelp
Ordered medium rib eye, a big portion of it came out rare. Clam and linguine was just so so, needed more garlic and only a few clams and some were in pieces, maybe not so fresh. A bit disappointed.

Philip F.

Yelp
Food: Steamer clams app. House Salad, Red Snapper Veracruz. Affogato dessert. All perfect. We make Veracruz at home and believed ours was better than any restaurant/ we were wrong- Catch's beat ours! Service: attentive and friendly. We said we would share salad and fish dishes/ the staff split the halves onto separate plates and I'm sure gave us more than a half order each, Ambiance: noisy, crowded & fun.

Stefany W.

Yelp
Came as a large party a couple weeks ago and this was probably the worst place we went to for our entire trip. It wasn't absolutely horrible but it wasn't great. We got oyster Rockefeller to start which tasted off. It didn't taste like bad seafood but something didn't taste 100% right. Plus the oysters came lukewarm which is really weird. We also got calamari to start which was actually delicious. Probably my favorite dish. Another appetizer we got was the shrimp cocktail. This was fine. Nothing special. Not a lot of shrimp though. For my main I got the shrimp fettuccine which was actually pretty good but would have been amazing if it was actually seasoned. It was just undersalted. Someone got the calamari steak for his main which he seemed to really enjoy. For the most part people thought the food was decent but when you compare to so many amazing restaurants nearby this one was subpar.

Joe C.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. The special menu board is where it's at. If you like grilled seafood don't sleep on this one.

P A.

Yelp
Yes, I will definitely come back here. Had the Snapper Veracruz style, one of the daily fresh catches listed on the board; it was a large portion and prepared perfectly. The tasty traditional sauce was very fresh and well balanced and there was plenty of it too. I tried the Cioppino a friend had ordered and that was great as well. It's spicy but I liked that, but the heat may be too much for some people. The kitchen could use some stronger exhaust fans because when the cooks were really jamming a bit of smoke made it's way into the dining area but it wasn't really bad. Overall, a very good meal at a fair price.

deb c.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. Sat at the bar. You can see your food being made. Best seafood pasta I have ever had. Service was great. Will definitely be back.

Mario S.

Yelp
I would have given this place at least 4 stars. The food was tasty and having the opportunity to practically see a show in the kitchen was awesome. Unfortunately, my wife and I both got food poisoning after eating dinner here. We ordered the fried calamari, cioppino and snapper. Some of the seafood must have been bad. Bad start to our vacation.
