"On the square in front of Santa Marta's cathedral and in the streets surrounding it, sidewalk vendors and stores sell handicrafts and traditional clothing, leather products, jewelry and other souvenirs. If you're looking for a more substantial keepsake of your time in Santa Marta, there are also a number of antique shops in the neighborhood."

A very attractive church Basilica with great history. The Cathedral Basilica of Santa Marta is also known as the Whitewashed Cathedral and is the oldest cathedral in Santa Marta and one of the oldest in the country. It was completed in the late 18th century, around 1765 to 1794, and is considered the first basilica built in South America. It features Roman Renaissance style with Baroque details and an elegant neoclassical facade with white stucco, columns, and stained glass windows. It is located in the historic center of Santa Marta, at Plaza de La Cathedral. Historically, it is significant as the original resting place of Simón Bolívar, the liberator of several South American countries, whose remains were interred there from 1830 until they were moved to Caracas in 1842.

A very beautiful piece of colonial architecture, both outside and inside. I was amazed at the elegance. Maintenance is ok. Ventilation inside the church is good. Statutes are beautiful. Historically very important in not just Colombian, but also in Latin American, as the city is one of the oldest surviving cities in South America. If you are in Santa Marta, this is a must visit place. Be watchful of people asking for money.

I attended Mass at 10am on Sunday. The other Mass times for Sunday are 7am, 12 noon and 5pm. There is a Saturday Mass at 5pm which I assume is a vigil Mass.
