Absolutely stunning. This is one of the coolest and oldest places I've ever visited. Located just across the street from our hotel, we checked-in and decided to walk towards this cathedral the minute we spotted it in town.
Unaccompanied children are not allowed (obviously) but tours are family friendly as long as kids are respectful and well-behaved.
What's interesting visually about this cathedral from the exterior is that it appears to be built in two styles. Sort of like the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. On the one side there are gothic flying buttresses and on the other, up a little incline and cobblestone road, the building appears Neoclassical and traditional, almost.
What's remarkable is that the building itself was named a historical monument only in 1931 and then way later in 1980 it was categorized as a cathedral as part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese. So only now are we really able to step back and appreciate the long way this building has come and the amount of time it took for it to be recognized for what it is. I'm still glad it's standing! If I'm not mistaken, I was told it began construction in the 15th century but was completed in the 17th century.
Definitely worth a tour. On a clear, sunny day you can photograph the cathedral and it's so pretty and so photogenic that you come out looking like a master photographer.
