A nice museum but some of the exhibitions were in Spanish only so we could fully appreciate what we were looking at. A little aged too but would recommend anyway I've the price to get in is reasonable. Nice views over the botanical gardens as a bonus!

Beautiful and prayerful. I was disturbed by the amount of anti-Catholic and anti-government graffiti on the exterior walls. The choir area needs restoration. I was so happy to see many people praying in the Blessed Sacrament chapel and the chapel with the venerated image of "El Cristo del Rayo." The cathedral is an official pilgrimage spot for the 2025 Jubilee Year for pilgrims who cannot make it to Rome. Pax et bonum!

This cathedral is just massive and we did come here on the Sunday where there was a service still going on. We didn’t really go inside we just looked in quickly because of this but it was so busy with even people by the front door listening in which was lovely to see. It’s very sweet and a great place to be around. The church is so detailed and pretty. We love all the churches in Oaxaca City, all are similar though lovely. “Jonique Life” If you find value in our reviews please consider following our social media outlets on Facebook and Instagram as we highlight magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.

The Oaxaca Cathedral is the main church of the city and is therefore located centrally, on the Zocalo square. It is easily distinguishable because its built out of the native green volcanic stone. The outside is massive, stocky, squat and fortress like. The baroque sculpted façade and the very tops of the bell towers are the redeeming value of its outer appearance. The interior is a standard basilica layout with a main nave and two side isles. It is not a very tall interior and not very impressively decorated. The Cathedral is free to enter and photos are allowed, however it is foremost a functioning place of worship so its good to be respectful.

Beautiful stain glass up high. Large ancient painting. Antique stone, grey in color. Fundamental fault is making mother Mary of greater importance than Jesus Christ is not Biblical.

Very beautiful church. Even if you are not Catholic, it is worth paying a visit; because this place is like a museum in the heart of the city centre in beautiful Oaxaca. In November they put a beautiful "ofrenda" an altar for the dead, which is not common in other catholic churches in Mexico. You must visit this place!!

Yelp
This cathedral also name as Catedral de Oaxaca. It is located in the square in the downtown. This place is the center of the downtown with restaurants and shop. It is part of metropolitan historic building. The church is not big. But it has it beauty. It doesn't has much of stain glass. It also has few alter that decorative beauty. The visit is about 30 minutes to complete. The ceiling is not much of decoration but do have the architectural dome shape. The building build and complete in 17 century.

Yelp
There are several cathedrals worth visiting in Oaxaca City, one of which is Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion! Its construction began in 1535, and it was consecrated in 1733. Its facade is made of the green cantera stone found across Oaxaca City, and the interior is beautiful. Walking in, you immediately smell melting wax, and it's clear that the cathedral is very loved.

Yelp
There are many cathedrals of nuestra señora de la Asunción (Our Lady of the Assumption) located in different cities through different countries. This one is located in the city of Oaxaca de Juarez. The spaniard started to build this one 40 years right after their arrival to America. The detail this building has is incredible it took them almost 200 years to finish it. This place like the whole downtown area is embelishing and magic. This might be one of those places I would consider to go on my honey moon. Sunday mornings or Saturday evenings in this place are very interesting!
