If you visit the town of Era, Portugal, I recommend you visit the cathedral there for several reasons. First of all, we have seen many, many cathedrals in our travels, but this one is special. To be honest, my favorite part was walking around the roof of the cathedral, a unique experience! And of course, the altar and nave were beautiful, as you can see in the photos. Also amazing is that construction was started in the year 1280, still standing and in good condition.

A stunning piece of architecture and one of the highlights of my trip. This is a beautiful site that is well worth visiting and the opportunity to climb to the roof provides breathtaking views of the city. There is a small museum included in your entry ticket and this is a fantastic site that you can spend lots of time at and not get bored.

The cathedral offers stunning vistas of Evora and the plains of the Alentejo. The best views are on the rooftop accesible via the towers. We recommend visiting in the late afternoon (4PM or later) This way you can catch the golden hues of sun entering the cathedral and shining upon the high choir. Please honor the reverence of this space with silence. Photography allowed in all area except the treasure room with sacred relics.

The cathedral, museum, and the tower were all absolutely stunning!! If you’re student, there’s also a discount, not so big a difference, yet still better than nothing. The staff to give the tickets was super friendly and warm, I really appreciated their welcoming hospitality. For 4 euros, the view is so worth it. If you’re planning to visit Evora, you shouldn’t miss this Cathedral for sure!

Stunning cathedral with amazing views from the rooftop! Évora Cathedral is one of the most impressive monuments in the city — a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Climb to the top for a beautiful panoramic view of Évora and the Alentejo region. Peaceful, historic, and absolutely worth a visit!

Évora is a stunning town, and at its heart stands the magnificent Cathedral of Évora, perched on a hilltop like a crown jewel. The town itself feels like stepping back in time narrow cobbled streets, ancient walls, and a peaceful, almost magical medieval atmosphere that wraps around you the moment you arrive. The cathedral is an awe-inspiring structure, both inside and out. Its Gothic architecture is beautifully preserved, and climbing to the roof rewards you with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. From every angle, it’s easy to see how this cathedral became the focal point of such a historic town. It’s hard not to like all of it. The quiet charm, the rich history, and the way everything centers so naturally around the cathedral make Évora an unforgettable place to visit. Highly recommended for lovers of history, architecture, or anyone looking for a peaceful escape into Portugal’s past.

Everything about this cathedral exceeded my expectations. The striking architecture, remarkable history, and breathtaking views from the rooftop made the visit unforgettable. Climbing up is well worth it, the panorama over Évora is magnificent. A must-see when exploring the city.

Absolutely gorgeous. Visited at a quite Sunday. Only a few people there and really enjoyed the whole experience. Beautiful architecture, nice view of the town. Really cool experience to walk on the roof. All for four euro entrance fee and kids are free. Strongly recommend it!

Yelp
It is rare that I give a church low mark, particularly one that is a UNESCO World Heritage site. However, this felt more amusement park rather than a protected building. The exterior of the building is worth seeing in its gothic style. There are several ticket options, such as just seeing the church and cloister or to see the tower. Although I purchased the all inclusive ticket, the stairway to the tower was filled with several screaming children and I didn't have the patience to wait for it to die down. Some of the statues and other adornments in the cathedral feel more like something you would see at a RenFaire, which is why I gave it the review that I did.

Yelp
Sitting on the highest point in the city is the Cathedral of Évora and its Cloisters. The cathedral began construction in 1184 and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. it is built from pink tinged granite and resembles a fortress. The main altar is covered in pink, grey, and white marble, very impressive. The cloister is attached and has a tower for an additional charge with an incredible view of the city.

Yelp
We stopped in the Cathedral of Évora (Sé Catedral de Évora). After Évora was reconquered from Arabs in 1166, the new Christian rulers of the city began to build a cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, though the first building was rather small, and later enlarged. It is the largest of the medieval cathedrals in Portugal, and Gothic style. The most important historical figure associated with the cathedral was Cardinal-King Henrique (1512-1580), who was archbishop and cardinal of Évora. Cardinal Henrique, was brother of King John III, and only ruled for two years.

Yelp
Cathedral of Évora located in the center heart of the UNESCO old town. It is also UNESCO heritage site. Start building at 11th century and final addition at 17th century. The exterior is gothic look with very simple stone building. The interior has vaulted ceilings with Gothic arch look. The lantern or chandelier in the middle has added the the most different than other church. The altar is well decorated. This brick finish has it own character. The art hanging on the wall is interesting. It look like Flemish artists. The last supper painting on the wall is interesting. Just wonder what kind of animal meat they serving at that night. The roof top can be accessible through one of the tower. You can far away of the town. The roof top can be walk on due to their thick stone tile.

Yelp
Visited on September 11, 2019. It was interesting to see a conical tower & mini turrets on the Cathedral's terrace which offered good views of the town. Some also mentioned that the pregnant statue of Mary is uncommon.

Yelp
Cathedral beautiful but staff @ ticket office not very friendly. Our Group became separated from each other & staff didn't want to let any of us in to find rest of Group that was still inside. Not very accommodating to non-Portuguese foreign travelers who don't have cell phone coverage in Portugal to contact lost group members.
