Cathedral of St. Bartholomew

After climbing more than 300 steps, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful views of Pilsen’s historic center and the wider West Bohemian region. Admission costs 110 CZK for adults and 60 CZK for children. St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral, located in the heart of Pilsen on Republic Square, is the city’s main landmark. Its tower, rising to approximately 102 meters, is the tallest church tower in the Czech Republic. The cathedral dates back to the 13th century and is an outstanding example of Czech Gothic architecture; inside, it houses the rare Pilsen Madonna, a 14th-century Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary.

Beautiful cathedral, the admission was free but it looked like their was price to climb the tower. We saw the cathedral right after Christmas so there was still a Christmas market outside. The inside held beautiful stain glass with ceilings that felt extremely high. The center or were the alter is at had these Beautiful statutes infront of the stain glass at the end of what I believe is the navie. The best time to vist was definitely right before the sun started going down as the yellow/orange light was shinning through the glass and created an amazing glow in the cathedral. Pilsen was a short stop for us but the cathedral is a must see if you are in the area.

Stumbled into this church while visiting Plzen town square and it was quite beautiful. Church is free but tower is 110CZ pp. Didn’t make it up to the tower this time but I imagine the view of square will be best from there! Chanced upon a choir performance during my visit!

This enormous cathedral is located in the city center. It has a great Gothic appearance. It was designated a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic in 1995. By many estimations, it is the tallest church tower in the Czech Republic, at approximately 335 feet. It is absolutely worth a visit.

It is stunning gothic cathedral as a central point of the main square. You should not and can not miss to visit it. It is even more beautiful inside then outside. Church tower is 103 meters high, making it the tallest one in Czech Republic. We did not manage to experience the view from the tower as we visited pretty late in the day so it was closed. Definitely recommend to stoo by.

Visited before Xmas and impress by church with Gothic architecture. It's main and has highest clock town in Czech. And also lucky to meet weekend market. May see all kinds of local food and desert. Also must try the hot red wine with fruit/flower. There're accessories and handicraft. Good luck to find one that you may interested. Glad to visit. Recommended!!

We visited this church this past weekend while visiting the Pilsen Christmas Markets. A beautiful cathedral in the center of the Pilsen Square. Recently renovated over the past few years. We did not go up to the bell tower, but the views from the top must be amazing.

It is located at the center of the old town. It is beautiful inside. I read a little about their history and this place was always the center of this town. Free admission. They told me I could go up the stairs to the top. I just did something similar at the Prague castle and my legs didn't want any more of what seems like a forever climbing up.

How many flights of stairs is it to get to the top? A zillion and then you lost count? This could very well be the stairway to heaven. I don't work out and I'm not at all religious or spiritual, but this one time last year I walked up those zillion flights of stairs at the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, so I figure I'm good on both points for at least a few years. I'll be real, Plzen isn't the prettiest place you're ever going to see. In fact, it's kind of grey, industrial, and worn down, but the city-center with the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew sure makes for a nice view... if you can see beyond the smog. Climbing to the top is no small feat, and certainly not for the claustrophobic, but it's free and if you bring a marking device, you can graffiti the crap out of this historic building. I mean, I didn't and I don't know if officially it's allowed, but about a gajillion people before you did so at this point it probably doesn't matter. I think it enhanced it overall, but I'm into modern art and could be in the minority here. If you're in Plzen, it's redic if you don't check this place out. Plus, there's really not a ton of other sh*t to do in this town soooo... just do yourself the favor. If you're touristing in Plzen this is one of very few thriving things in the community (this in the Pilsner Urquell factory) that you should def check out.

Must do the climb up the tower but be warned, it is steep and many flights up (I lost count). In places it is narrow and the stairs become more ladder-like. But you are rewarded with a stunning view if you can make it outside on the wrap around balcony. Inside at the top of the stairs you can remain inside and look out the windows (which I did) and still see the city. There is also a drawing inside that indicates the buildings you are looking at. It cost us 1,50€ each (for students).

We went to mass this morning at St Bartholomew. It was a very nice service. They had art for sale around the Edges of the interior of the church, which was a bit strange, but it's a single building without a foyer, so where else would it be? Very historical and important for centuries.
