3 Best Day Trips from New Orleans

"Historic churches and cathedrals are hardly a rarity in this religious part of the world, especially with the Catholic influence that looms so large in Louisiana. This imposing red and white brick cathedral, though, is impressive even within that well-populated arena. The cathedral is just a century old and is a memorable example of the Dutch Romanesque Revival Style, the striking brick structure framing historic stained glass windows imported from Germany. The domed interior opens up to reveal a wonderfully-preserved, colorful and airy church. It's a tranquil place for reflection, as are equally the cemetery and the beautiful, centuries-old Cathedral Oak tree. There are no regular guided tours on site, but they can easily be arranged by contacting the cathedral through a phone number on their website." - Paul Oswell

Beautiful cathedral inside and outside. With free parking. The art work on the windows are amazing. Peaceful . Really worth visiting. I loved it. Don't miss the cemetery next to it. Also very nice.

Beautiful Cathedral with beautiful designs. I got to see the statue of st Jeanne d'Arc, st. Mother Theresa, and more I didn't have chance to do a complete tour. I am surely going back.

Amazing place as well as the people. The church and clergy, graciously donated the funeral service for my mother who recently passed away, when they heard of us trying to raise enough money to have a burial and service. This cathedral is stunning and just went through a complete restoration, and the art of the interior is extremely intricate and exquisite. The grounds and cemetery are very well maintained and beautiful. the history this cathedral offers as well as some of the oldest live oak trees located throughout its property are breath-taking. Highly recommend this place to anyone for any occasion. Guaranteed to be a highlight memory for each person who gets the opportunity to experience this place in person.

Very pretty red brick Cathedral with a truly enormous live oak tree protected in the yard and a really interesting cemetery out back. We arrived on Christmas day in the afternoon when it wasn't open ahead of the Mass but I think it's normally open.

Such a lovely place to sit and reflect. Even if you are not Catholic.

Beautiful place. It was raining when we came, but it didn't take away from the beauty of cathedral. The great big tree was amazing as well. Nice little historical place to stop if you are in the area.

So beautiful. This gorgeous Cathedral totally captures the love, mercy and appreciation for all life as bestowed on humankind by God Our Father. Daily mass with faithful followers of “The Way” was a highlight of our vacation. The family that prays together stays together. The stained glass windows with statements of faith written in French reflect the faith, hope and love of past generations that trusted. Let us take a lesson from the history books! Come to see and experience this beautiful home of God.
