"Historic churches and cathedrals are hardly a rarity in this religious part of the world, especially with the Catholic influence that looms so large in Louisiana. This imposing red and white brick cathedral, though, is impressive even within that well-populated arena. The cathedral is just a century old and is a memorable example of the Dutch Romanesque Revival Style, the striking brick structure framing historic stained glass windows imported from Germany. The domed interior opens up to reveal a wonderfully-preserved, colorful and airy church. It's a tranquil place for reflection, as are equally the cemetery and the beautiful, centuries-old Cathedral Oak tree. There are no regular guided tours on site, but they can easily be arranged by contacting the cathedral through a phone number on their website." - Paul Oswell

Very pretty red brick Cathedral with a truly enormous live oak tree protected in the yard and a really interesting cemetery out back. We arrived on Christmas day in the afternoon when it wasn't open ahead of the Mass but I think it's normally open.

Beautiful place. We were there a couple of days after the snow storm, which added to the beauty

The oak is glorious! One of the biggest you can see in the US. We were so happy that the cathedral is open to the public. Check out the cemetery as well.

It is such a beautiful cathedral, the stained glass windows are so exquisite! The people are very friendly. We enjoyed watching almost the whole service. I didn't take pictures inside out of reverence for the ongoing service (I do regret it now). The nearly five hundred year cathedral old oak stands right beside, it's a wonder to behold. The graveyard is very interesting. It's worth a stop if you passing through Lafayette, LA.

So beautiful. This gorgeous Cathedral totally captures the love, mercy and appreciation for all life as bestowed on humankind by God Our Father. Daily mass with faithful followers of “The Way” was a highlight of our vacation. The family that prays together stays together. The stained glass windows with statements of faith written in French reflect the faith, hope and love of past generations that trusted. Let us take a lesson from the history books! Come to see and experience this beautiful home of God.

I was the visitor of the town, and went for the service. Very friendly Priests and Parishioners. Attended 11 am Sunday mass. Choir was excellent. The church is beautiful. Serene. The Cemetery is creatively managed and the 500 years old Oak tree has it's own special place . By luck, it was the Parish family picnic on 3rd November 2019. I was warmly welcomed by the Priests and Police Marshal. Had a good time and tasty food all for free.

This is a beautiful, and historic church in downtown Lafayette. We are fortunate that this church is open to the public, so you can see how beautiful it is. There is a beautiful, huge oak tree outside, that you can’t get close to. Come inside, take a seat, and take in the beauty of this church. This place is full of history, and the detail work in this church is amazing. I highly recommend that you come in and visit this church.
