The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the spiritual heart of Krk. Built on the remains of Roman baths, the site has been used for Christian worship since the 4th century. The present Romanesque design dates back to the 11th–12th century, though the first written record is from 1186.
The cathedral forms part of a larger complex with the Church of St. Quirinus, a 16th-century bell tower, and several chapels. Inside, visitors can admire Corinthian columns, medieval chapels, and details added by the noble Frankopan family. Despite its long history of transformations, the cathedral remains a peaceful and impressive place to step back into centuries of faith and tradition. The cathedral is beautiful, but it can feel very crowded with tourists — not the easiest place if you’re seeking a quiet moment of prayer.
