Nice building, pleasant staff but never seem to be around, stood in the bar area for approx 10 mins and no one appeared, we could've helped ourselves to anything. Very quaint with piano music on arrival, felt like you'd gone back in time. Room we had was adequate, served its purpose. Breakfast was ok, weird setup, was in like a function room with random tables and the piano music being played again. Food was prompt with unlimited beverages. Staff very pleasant.

The new management of this hotel has truly elevated the guest experience beyond expectations. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, ensuring every detail of our stay was perfect. The rooms were spotless, and the new dining options were a delightful surprise. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious and welcoming stay. I can’t wait to return on my next trip!"

Stayed there a week and hope to never come back. Positives: - friendly staff (all team members) - good location What made it a bad experience: - its DIRTY. Everywhere. Lift stinks inside. Room windows haven’t been cleaned in ages. Tableclothes in the restaurant were extremely dirty and they have not been changed day to day. They just stayed dity. - Very poor breakfast. No fresh veg or fruit. The only choice outside of cereal is full English breakfast. No other choice at all. You can’t even have espresso, cappuccino or coffee latte as the only coffee available is black, to which you can add some milk. And they advertise this place as 4 star hotel? - They are understaffed. Throughout the week I was there, there were two occasions I had to wait over 10minutes to someone even turn up to reception (they were very nice once they eventually turned up). - Questionable design of the rooms. The desk was in very tight space behind the bathroom, there was TV hanging over the desk and there was no light there at all. It was impossible to take late evening business meetings online in such setup. I frequently visit Derby and I will definitely not visit this hotel again.

I went with my daughter for afternoon tea. It was disgusting. Everything was shop brought including the cakes and sandwich fillers. The place itself was dark and dingy. The cakes were dry and hard. Not a good place to eat. The website says that the sandwiches and cakes were home made. They lied. It was the worst afternoon tea we have ever had. Even the outside of the building was dingy.

Stayed for 2 nights great Central location. Rooms clean, comfortable and delivered a good nights sleep. OK the building is old and parts need a bit of cosmetic touch ups but what really impressed me was the team polite, informative and nothing was to much trouble. Alvin is a real credit making breakfast a joy with loads of information about what's coming up within the hotel. From the hospitality industry myself I know your people are your best asset and the CQH has a team that cares, are facing it head on and looking after their guest. I look forward to staying there again next time I'm Derby. And I definitely don't blame you for the weather but an umbrella would of been a nice touch 😉

Stayed valentines night. We had been looking forward to a night away. Book a table at the hotel for dinner so all sorted.......so, on arrival booked in. Young girl on the desk trying to do her best. ( we all started somewhere) she gave we a key. Normal key. OK old but ok. We went up to our room for that we had for the night. Initial thoughts opening the door, ok again then we walk in and wow. Floor boards. You could not walk anywhere with floor boards squeaking. ( we could here above walking around too) Old building we thought. But it did wake us up when someone above went to the loo in the middle of the night. Restaurant. OMG. Bareing in mind this is valentines night. Only half the tables where out massive space on one side. One couple in the restaurant we thought this will be heaven or hell. Well the waiter walked off as we walked in. Not a good start. We seated ourselves. He eventually came over with two menus. Al a cart and a valentines set meal. He asked for our drinks order went off again. We chose the al a cart. Waiter then came back without drinks and informed us the the chef has said no al a cart tonight. He continued to say it was the valentines menu or the steak night. My mood lightened. I am a steak lover. What's the stack I enquire. The waiter looks at me. What do you mean sir. He said. I went on to ask is it filet, rump, the waiter than gobsmacked me.....it's beef sir.... Was his response. My wife at this point was quite flabbergasted. We both stood up and left. And of course valentines night everywhere was booked up so we ended up having KFC in our room. Not the best valentines night. I was not happy.

Nice well priced hotel near Derby cathedral. Rooms have everything you need, breakfast good and a small bar near reception area. No car park, but parking nearby and good public transport into Derby, bus and train. Very attractive old building inside, recommended

Stayed for one night, overall it’s great, a few oddities but it’s a very old building that is hugely impressive and you need to expect its become a hotel (not the other way round) Our room was small but enough, advertised that way so no surprises and enough for what we needed. Staff - amazing and all so friendly Breakfast - very nice “happy breakfast” was a frost but so nice! Night porter was lovely too. LOCATION - AMAZING !! Right in the heart of the city and near all bars and restaurants (but no noise at all as tucked away) Even free parking if you’re quick! Shame the bar closed early but I’d stay here again

Yelp
This hotel is what I think of when I think of bare minimum European hotels. There are cracks in the walls and obvious water damage. My sink is constantly dripping, the entire hotel smells of old built up cigarette smoke, the hallway light on the top floor is out and the exit sign is flickering like a horror movie. There are no USB outlets or tissues. The mini fridge in my room does not work, and they obviously did not plan on ever needing to fix it because there is no way to access the controls to it. The lift is broken too. Honestly the best thing about this hotel is the giant bell at the front desk.

Yelp
Great afternoon tea yesterday, at the hotel. The cakes were so yummy and homemade. Downfall was the room was so hot like to hot and they had no air con but it's all good they more than made up for it with two for one cocktails! Hollaaaa
