This church honestly looks more like a parliament building than a traditional place of worship! Entry was free when I visited (it reopened at 2pm), which was a nice bonus. The building’s unique shape really stands out—it's unlike any other church or cathedral I've seen in Normandy. The stained glass windows are quite pretty, too. The location is a bit odd, though—right in the middle of the square, which doesn’t seem like the most natural spot for it. I actually thought the symbolic stake and the surrounding gardens outside felt more fitting for the setting. Overall, definitely worth a visit just to see something different!

The Church of Saint Joan of Arc in Rouen was one of the most moving stops on this trip to France. The Church is in the square where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Never in a million years did I think I'd find myself here! There's a simple cross marking the spot, and standing there gave me chills. The church itself is… truly unique. It looks nothing like your typical cathedral. The outside is covered in these overlapping tiles that look like scales- very dramatic and almost sea creature like. It had been explained how the roof was made to look like flames (symbolizing her execution) and an overturned Viking ship outside, almost looking like a hat. Super symbolic, and once you know this information, the design makes a lot more sense! Inside, peaceful and very colorful. All the stained glass windows are unbelievably stunning! This place is absolutely worth seeing if you are anywhere near Rouen! The history and the design combined is unlike anything I've ever seen!

First they burned her, then made her a saint. What an irony. The church has very unique architecture, it's not like any other churches I have seen before. It's interesting that locals were not big fans of it, and even protested against it. Nevertheless it's here, in the middle of the Market Square. A nice place to sit and watch people, and think about your life. Do not miss the place where she was actually burned, to the left from the entrance.

This is an extraordinary work of modern architecture which seems totally at odds with the rest of the square in which it sits but it becomes more appealing as you look further and inside. It it a daring piece of design. Inside the space is bright and contemporary but set with the lead light windows of an ancient church. The space is enclose by a convex roof , the opposite of the pointed arch in most churches. The playful fish shaped windows add lightness but also meaning. A great space.

This modern church looks less like a traditional place of worship and more like a Viking longship docked in the city — a drakkar with holy vibes. Built in the 1970s right where Joan of Arc was burned, it’s a bold mix of history and futuristic design. Inside, the minimalist, light-filled spaces are so calm you might forget you’re not on a Scandinavian cruise. Definitely a church that’s sailing against the architectural tide. :)

Interesting church, placed in a place where executions were performed. The roof is extraordinary, resembling a dragon or a viking boat. The interior is something different from every church I've seen.

This is a church, monument, and complex dedicated to Joan of Arc. The entire complex was built on where she was burnt by the British. Now, it is a nice area for shopping and restaurants. Overall, a nice experience to learn about her saga and the history of this period in France.

The church is an extraordinary work of modernist architecture, and at the same time a disgrace to the Republic. It was built by decision of France, and today, without its clear protection, it reeks of urine and pigeon droppings, with trash scattered throughout its corners.

Yelp
This modern church (built in 1979) and named after Saint Joan of Arc is located at exactly the location where she was burned at the stake in 1431 at the age of 19. The roof of the church is an odd shape and apparently the designer left it up to viewer discretion to decide what it is. It looks like a medieval helmet to me. The church is located in the same town square, Place du Vieux Marché, that was in existence when Joan of Arc died. There are a wide variety of depictions of Joan of Arc - some pretty, some boyish - but apparently there is no actual record of what this young French heroine really looked like.

Yelp
Stumbled on Church of St. Joan of Arc after having a stroll on the Market Square after lunch. This modern looking structure that is completed in 1979 does look out of place with the rest of the half timber structure around it. It does look like an over turned Viking Ship, or as interpret as the flames that was burning the patron Saint. The Church is built on the same location where St Joan of Arc was burnt in 1431. The stunning Stained Glass windows are from the Church of St Vincent that used to occupy the site till it was damaged in 1944. The architect did a wonderful job in incorporating that with the new structure. Free admission... always good.

Yelp
If I hadn't been with my Princess Cruises tour guide, I would've had no idea what in the heck this building was. From the outside, it looks like a dragon, or a Viking ship or some architecture experiment gone horribly wrong. But on the inside, it's quite breathtaking. The stained glass windows (not originally from this church, from what I've been told) are amazing and the atmosphere is surreal. It's even more amazgin to know that this was the exact location where St. Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Free admission, but remember to keep your voices down. Sound echoes like crazy in there!
